Re: your state/region/area stereotype

lol me too. I have cousins in Canada, Georgia, and radomly Wisconsin. They hate New Jersey because they think I'm so conceited and they just don't think it's as cool as where they're from, but I can debate real well on that subject. It's just the best place period. ;]

Re: your state/region/area stereotype

I live in kentucky and people think we're a bunch of hicks that marry our cousins and well there are some hicks but the whole marry our cousins thing isn't true. Sometimes we come across people who are complete trailer trash no offense

but when i go to new york, not near nyc it's near buffalo basically on lake erie, i always laugh at how my cousin talks but he also says the way we talk is funny too so yea

and i have some family in georgia and when my 24 year old cousin visits he's like kentucky has pretty girls but nothing compared to the georgia peaches back home and i'm all like uhh georgia peaches? so apparently they call girls peaches there

but yea that's all i guess

I'm from Illinois.
People probably hear me say I'm from illinois and think,Little House On The pararie, and we make our own butter[[no offence to anyone that does]],and that I live in a log cabin.
or I drive a tractor to school.
No.
I don't.
There's too many roads around where I live. Our school system is HUGE.We ride buses and cars to school/work/etc. And we buy our butter from the grocery store. And I have a normal house.
One time if FL. I was going to Disneyworld, and the lady behind the counter asked me where I was from,I told her illinois, and she compeletly said I didn't look like I was from there. And she thought I came from Hawaii or something, after that comment, she got someone else to serve me.She just refused to serve me,or make eye contact with me.
And.
i've never heard anyone say joisy either...

I'm from Rhode Island, Warwick, specifically. I don't really know any sterotypes. Hrm..well, people seem to make fun of RI accents and get annoyed by them! I'll admit, they can be silly though...umm..let's see! Like, we don't say our "r"s in words. Like, I really have trouble saying the word mirror, so I avoid saying it. Hahaa! XD

And RI is NOT an island guys....it is a state. People never realize that...

If anyone knows any RI sterotypes, please tell me. I'm sure I'll be amused! Hahaa.

Re: your state/region/area stereotype

I totally understand the California stereotype.  I lived there for most of my life and it's so weird how some people have a false understanding of Californians.

Now that I live in Virginia... I guess there is a Southern stereotype but not that much.  The school I go to is kind of ritzy so my school has a rich snobby kind of sterotype.  But yeah nothing too drastic.

I live in New Jersey. We're said to talk with accents and pronounce the name of our state as "Joisy," but I'll tell you now, that I have been living in Jersey all my life; never have I heard one person say that. We do have accents and we are pretty conceited at times (depends on who you are). We don't smell like disgusting industry. In fact, we're realy green with a lot of trees and plants.
I think it's a great state, but people put it out to be something totally different.
This explains all of it. ;]

haha "joisy". anytime pittsburgh plays the new jersey devils (hockey team) the newscasters on tv like to pull "joisy" thing as a joke. i've never heard anyone actually say that without it being funny. like i said in my post we get the whole pittsburghese stereotype.

but back to nj, do people reference the whole "jersey boy/jersey girl" thing there? or is that just something the other 49 states invented? i've always wondered that....lol

Re: your state/region/area stereotype

I live in Georgia, and there's this huge southern/redneck/hillbilly stereotype. Most people I know here aren't hillbillies, and they don't have a strong southern accent. My mom has one,but she's from Mississippi, which is a whole different story.

Anyways, people mostly think we say pronounce 'Georgia' "JawJa",but we don't. I hear people making jokes about it,but it's not true. We do say 'Ya'll' a lot. I don't,but most of the people I'm around say it.

I guess up next to a Northern or Western person,we do seem a bit more southern than we think. But I don't know.
