Okay, here's the story. It may be a bit long, I'm not sure...
As many of you know, Hurricane Ike is hitting the coast of Texas tomorrow. So far, nearly the entire island of Galveston is already under water. Much of Houston is going to be hit, and possibly under water.
My area that I live in isn't supposed to be hit as bad, but we were ordered a mandatory evacuation 2 days ago. Obviously, I'm not in school. Apparently, I won't have school until Monday at the earliest, but at the rate it's going, we could be out the entire week. Nearly all of Houston has been evacuated, and it's even harder to get people into the city then it is to get out.
We evacuated from Houston early yesturday morning, and we tried to make the basic 3 hour trip to central Texas where my grandparents live. The drive took 5 hours, plus a 30 minute lunch break.
So currently, I'm sitting in my grandparent's living room surrounded by my family and best friends. My family's family friends came with us, because they had no where else to go.
I won't be able to get online nearly as much this week, and possibly into the week after. Missing school will make the next couple of weeks crazy with homework, and just being here will be crazy. We have 13 people in this house right now, plus a dog.
This is the first time I've really been online for a while. If you do want to talk to me, I will be able to get onto my computer, so you can talk to me on AIM. If you PM me and want my AIM address feel free to ask.
My PM is MegB
I won't be able to get on this site much, and chances of me updating my fics are even slimmer.
I think being with my family through this is more important than getting on a fansite, no offense. I love all of you girls, but, through this, I need my family more. The only info we have on what's happening in Houston and Galveston, and other areas on the TX coast are from the News, and my bff is freaking out because her dad had to stay behind for his job.
I'll try to get online, I really will, but like I said, don't count on it.
This storm is supposed to be really bad. Like I said, it hasn't even hit yet and Galveston is underwater.
What's ironic is that this storm has followed the exact same, well, everything as the Great Storm of 1900 that hit Galveston 108 years ago as of Monday. It also hit on a Saturday (108 years ago) and Ike is supposed to make landfall tomorrow.
We all think, as well as news reporters, that this is so weird that it's following the same everything as the storm of 1900.
If you know nothing about the 1900 storm, it was this country's greatest natural disaster, and 6000 people in Galveston alone died. 12000 total in estimation.
Of course, most of Galveston has been evacuated, so there won't be that problem...
Except the seawall may now break.
The seawall was put up because of the storm of 1900. It helps to protect the island from flooding, and they also raised the city up to 16 feet in some places to help with preventing flooding.
If the seawall breaks, some reporter just said Galveston is nearly doomed.
I will say, I dont live on the island of Galveston. I live more inland, but I'm 30 minutes out of Galveston.
My school, however, is quite close to the shore (not Galveston, but somewhere else...)
I'm really sorry guys. I am.
I want to get on here, post my ffs, all that stuff, but...I just, can't right now, ya know?
I will try, I can assure you.
And like I said, PM me and ask for my email/AIM address. I can't guarentee I'll always be on, but I can try. :)
Again, my PM is MegB
I love you guys!
Stay safe to anyone who is involved with Hurricane Ike!
XOXO
