this is what nick had to say about the song 'a little bit longer'
'It's actually a song that has to do with diabetes. We were up in Canada filming Camp Rock. It was one of those days where my blood sugar was a little out of control, and I was kind of bumming. I walked by this room in the hotel we were staying at, and it was so weird, all of the sudden there was this big ballroom with a piano in it. It was like a scene out of a movie. So I went in there, sat down at the piano and wrote the song. Later on I played it for the cast, and they all loved it.
i thought it was cute, but at the same time, abit sad :/

i'd rather just be alone
if i know that i can't have you

That's so sad. And cute. But sad. Man, this song speaks volumes to me, and now knowing the FULL inspiration behind it makes it even more special.

If I could just smile at him and have it go to his brain like morphine. -dakota lane

Not everything made you stronger. It was possible to survive, yet still be crippled for your trouble. Sometimes it was okay to run away, to skip the test, to chicken out. Or at least to get some help.

That's so sweet and so sad. That song has me in tears everytime I listen to it-and I don't mean as background music or anything-I wouldn't do that to them! I mean when I sit down and listen to the lyrics. They are so amazing and Nick is such an amazing songwriter/composer. To be able to write a song from pure emotion that touches people is something most of us only dream of-and Nick's doing it! Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you so much Molly!!! |

I've cried over A Little Bit Longer before but not that much. I recently played it and immediatly stopped whatever I was doing and decided right then and there that I would listen to those lyrics and really, really listen hard. Well, I soaked the lyrics up like a sponge. I realized how much of a burden it is. I cried my heart out, it was absolutely overwhelming. I kept crying. I really didn't think of how special this song was to begin with, I knew it was, but I didn't think about it. And there I was, listening to the song with tears streaming down my face. I cried hardest at these parts:
"And you don't know what it's like
To feel so low
And everytime you smile or laugh you glow
You don't even know"
"So I'll wait till Kingdom come, all the highs and lows are gone."
When I really thought about that. We really and truly don't know what it's like for him. We don't know how he feels on the inside on the days he's having problems with his blood sugar. We have no idea. Kingdom come. That's definitely not until the rest of his life is over. "So I'll wait" He's willing to wait his entire life for his diabetes to go away. To live a life with something like diabetes must be tough, I'm sure of it, but Nick is so strong. He's so unbelieveably strong about it. I admire him for that the most.
I have issues getting my thoughts into words, that paragraph is kinda jumbled. I wish I had a way with words sometimes =] but you know, sometimes people can't always get what they want haha.

I cried when I first heard it and read the lyrics. I might not know how EXACTLY he feels, but I do know how I feel. I'm a diabetic also, so this song is so so SO touching to me. I can relate to it, and him, so I cry like a baby every time I hear that song. Especially on the Kingdom come part. The first couple times I heard that line, I guess I didn't really HEAR it, because when I did, I cried even harder. Nick is my inspiration and I love that he's so tough and strong and keeps living his life, as hard as it is with diabetes. (Oh and the speech he made on his diabetes....yeah. My mom saw me and freaked because she thought something happened cause I was crying so hard.)
