Isabelle took a deep breath. Just inside the doors she was facing was the entire population of her small town, her family, his family, and the love of her life. She gripped the stems of the bouquet of flowers she held in her hands and breathed deeply again. She was ready to do this. She wasn’t too young, (even though she was eighteen,) and she loved him. With all of her heart.
“Are you ready?” her best friend Beth whispered. Isabelle glanced at her through her veil and saw the excitement in her friend’s face. She offered a nervous smile and nodded, saying, “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
The music began and the doors opened. The congregation stood up, their eyes expectant to see the beautiful bride that the Jonas boy was marrying.
Isabelle found her father standing near the beginning of the aisle and she gratefully let him take her elbow. They walked slowly down the white carpeted aisle, Isabelle making eye contact with some of her cousins, some of his, and smiling as his parents came into view.
Then, she saw him. He stood at the altar, smiling happily. He was breathtaking, the whiteness of the tuxedo shirt contrasting greatly with his tan. Their eyes met and she felt her heart speed up as she was completely lost in those brown pools.
It was only when her father squeezed her hand that she woke from her hypnotic state. She kissed her father’s cheek and smiled as he placed her hand in her love’s.
“Hi,” he whispered, his eyes playful as they always were. “You’re beautiful.” It was what he had said when they first met.
“You’re not too bad yourself, handsome,” she replied with a wink. It was how their first conversation had gone.
“Dearly beloved,” the preacher began, “we are gathered here today…”
Throughout the preacher’s speech, they just stared into each other’s eyes. There was no congregation, there was no preacher, there was no wedding. Just them, communicating their love for each other through their eyes and brilliant smiles.
“Do you, Joseph Adam, take Isabelle Marie to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
Joe smiled a little and nodded. “I do, with everything in me.” He whispered the last part so only Isabelle could hear.
“And do you, Isabelle Marie, take Joseph Adam to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do, with everything in me,” she said, in the same manner as Joe.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Joe drew her close and pressed his lips against hers, longer than what was customary. He pulled away, tears shining in his eyes. They smiled brightly at each other as the preacher announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jonas!”
Her heart did somersaults as they walked back down the aisle as the congregation applauded. She was his and he was hers.
Forever.
This is just the beginning. Expect big changes. BIG changes. Anyway, did you like it?
