So I wrote this for Bekah during Christmas and just found it now. And I'm gonna post it 'cause I feel like it.

~Belles <3 [is on a three-way call]

His Angel

Bekah glanced nervously around the dark empty room. Although this wasn't her first time sneaking into his room, she never felt right about it. Her heart always went on super speed and for a few minutes her every instinct was working double time to make sure she didn't get caught. It would absolutely ruin everything if she got caught. She'd be called a thief and probably get thrown in jail. And worse than that, it'd probably taint the memories of all the other gifts she'd given him.

Of course he would never know it was her. She wouldn't let him. Not that it really mattered though, it's not like he ever remembered her. From anything. Not from Jersey. Not from the empty room incident. Not even from tour. Apparently, Bekah was a pretty forgettable person.

Not that she minded. Much. It made it a whole lot easier to remain anonymous when she collected information on him, to make sure she got him the right gift that year. Every year she gave him a gift for Christmas. It was always something different, something unique. It started when she nine. He was in her fourth grade class and she had a slight crush on him. Christmas was approaching and everybody was in a tizzy finding gifts for friends and talking about the upcoming class party.

Bekah had been keeping close tabs on him all year. Not in a stalker way, just in a I-like-him-but-he-doesn't-even-know-I'm-alive-and-I'm-too-scared-to-say-hi way. So she thought up this brilliant plan: She'd buy him the best gift ever and he'd be so happy he'd immediately.... Well, she didn't know what he would do, but she figured it would be wonderful and at least start a good conversation. But then something happened.

They were both waiting at the carpool section on the school, just him and her, and then by some miracle she screwed up all her courage and said, “Hey.”

He looked up at her and muttered, “Hi.”

Bekah's kind nature immediately overpowered her nervousness. “Are you alright?” She asked him.

He shrugged, looking out the window for his mom's car.

Bekah walked over to him. “Do you need a hug?” If this were any other time, she would have never said that. Even thinking it was enough to make her blush. But he looked so sad and the only way she knew to make it better was through hugs.

He looked up at her, as if seeing her for the first time. “I... I... I'm not coming back to school after Christmas.” He said.

Bekah felt like someone just punched her in the stomach. He wasn't coming back? But she never really got to know him. That wasn't fair! “Oh.” She whispered.

Yeah.” He added.

Why?” Bekah asked.

He tugged at one of his curls before answering. “I'm getting too busy. Mom says it'd be better for all of us if we get home schooled, me and my brothers.”

Oh. I understand.”

Me too. But I'm gonna miss my friends.” He sighed.

Bekah felt so bad for him. It must stink to have to leave all your friends, even if it was for the best. “I bet they'll miss you too.”

He looked at her, a peaceful silence falling over the two nine year olds, broken only by the door opening. His mom was there to get him. He left without a second glance and Bekah was left whispering, “I'll miss you.”

That December at the class Christmas party she left a brown paper bag on his desk, early in the day before he got there. In it held her gift to him, but she didn't leave a note telling him who it's from. She decided that the best gifts are the ones that just show up, as if from Santa himself.

Bekah sat in her seat anxiously as she watched him enter the room and walk over to his desk. She saw him pick up the bag and open it. He reached in and pulled out a tiny angel with an inscription on the bottom that read: Wherever you go I'll watch over you.

He curled his fingers around it, holding it tightly as his eyes darted around the room, looking for the giver of the gift. Bekah quickly looked down at her desk as he searched the room, but looked up just it time to watch him smile at her small present and put it carefully back in the paper bag.

And that, was the beginning of her secret gifts. Through the years Bekah had sent a small gift to him every Christmas. During the years the were apart she sent them to his home. And once he became a big star, she sent them to his fan mail address hoping he got it in time. She never found out if he got her gifts during that time and she never saw him.

Except once.

Bekah was fourteen and her mom was taking her to visit the radio station her uncle worked at. Her mom left her alone for a while so that she could take an important business call so she wandered into an empty room, well not completely empty.

Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone was in here. I'll just... go..” Bekah said, motioning to the door.

No. It's okay. You can stay.” He replied.

Bekah slid down the wall until she was sitting. “Really? Okay then.”

He seemed to give her the once over before deeming her safe and sitting down next to her. “What are you here for?” He asked.

I could ask you the same thing.” Bekah said.

He laughed. “You could, but I asked first.”

I asked second.” She smirked.

So...?” He questioned waiting for an answer.

First is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with the hairy chest.” She explained.

I thought is was a treasure chest.” He said.

She laughed, “Nope. That was just a rumor.”

Oh. So are you going to answer the question?”

I'm visiting my uncle, who works here, with my mother, who is currently on her cell phone.” Bekah explained.

So is your uncle like, a host?” He asked.

Nah, he's like a supervisor over the radio shows.”

Well that's pretty cool too.”

I know.” She grinned. “So. Your turn.”

I'm here for an interview with my brothers. We're in a band.” He said.

A band of brothers. Pretty cool. But I was hoping for something a little bit more interesting.”

Like what?”

Like.... you're a super secret spy who's trying to steal back the golden guitar from the evil Purple Penguin.” She grinned.

What?” He exclaimed chuckling under his breath.

Yep. Something like that.”

He shook his head and replied in complete seriousness, “But if I was a super secret spy... Why would I tell you?”

'Cause I could help you, of course!”

How?”

Bekah looked both ways, leaned closer to him, and whispered, “Shhh. I'm a spy too!” Then she leaned back and grinned secretively.

Oh really?” He asked, tilting his head to one side.

Yeah. Really.” She replied.

He opened his mouth to say something, but just then the door opened to reveal a person with a cell phone in one hand and a clipboard in the other. “There you are. You're brothers are warming up, go join them.” And with that, he shut the door and walked away.

I guess I better get going.” He said standing up.

Bekah looked up at him, memorizing his face for she didn't know how long it would be until she saw it in person again. “Yeah. You probably should. You can't get back the golden guitar sitting around here all day.”

He chuckled. “Exactly.”

Well. Good luck and good bye.” She said, watching him as he left her. Again.

Bekah shook her head. None of those memories were important now. What was important was giving him his present without getting caught. She crept quietly across the room to his nightstand next to his bed. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized that he was in his room, sleeping.

Nick.” She gasped, before firmly shutting her mouth, hoping her voice hadn't woken him.

It hadn't. But she was still confused. Nick had sworn he was going to crash in Joe's room tonight, which is why Bekah thought she'd be able to leave her gift right next to his bed like last year. Well, she thought, I'm already here. Might as well get on with it.

So she sucked in her breath and ever so cautiously set her brown paper bag down on his nightstand. But before she could leave, something caught her attention. It was a card that read To: Angel Girl aka Mystery Gift Giver. Hesitantly she picked it up. Should she open it? Read it? Was it even for her?

She was so caught up in her own thoughts, she didn't notice that Nick had woken up and was now staring at her.

Read it.” He said, his voice startling her so bad she jumped, dropping the card on the floor.

I..” Bekah started to say, but stopped, because she had no idea what to say in this situation. So instead she picked up the card and opened it. It read:

Angel Girl,

Thanks for all the gifts over the years. Somehow you always seemed to pick the perfect one for me. I don't really know what to say besides... Thanks.

Nick

p.s. I have a gift for you, but you'll have to ask me for it :)

Bekah looked up at Nick, who was staring at her expectantly. He had a relaxed smile on his face and looked way too a.lert for someone who had just woken up.

I.... I'm not an angel.” She blurted out.

Nick smiled, “Yes you are. You've given me a gift every single Christmas since I was nine. And each one has been... so... special to me. I've come to look forward to Christmas just for your gift. And besides that. You're my angel.” He threw the blanket off his body to reveal himself clad in only PJ bottoms. He got off his bed and stood in front of her. “Do you remember the first gift you gave me? That small angel that said it's watching over me? Well, call me crazy but I believed it. I carried that thing around everywhere. And when I got another gift in a paper bag, I knew it was from my angel friend. I....” He paused as if searching for the right words. “I don't know how to explain it besides, you make Christmas special. And you make me feel special.”

Bekah, although flattered, took a step back. This was all too much for her. “You don't even know me.”

I know a bit about you. Your name is Bekah, you were in my fourth grade class, you worked on tour for us for a bit, and now you're working on the TV show. You're beautiful, very nice, thoughtful, and I've always been a little too shy to talk to you.” He said, his eyes boring into mine.

You? To shy to talk to... me?” She repeated dumbfounded.

Yep. You're just... like an angel. And I'm just..”

the most adorable gentlemanly musician ever?” Bekah finished for him.

No. I was going to say: a guy. Because I am definitely not what you just said.”

And I'm not an angel.” She replied.

Nick opened his mouth, closed it, and finally said, “Would you like your gift now?”

Sure.” Bekah agreed cautiously, watching as Nick grabbed a different paper bag from under his bed.

Here.” He said handing her the bag.

Carefully, she opened it and pulled out a small male angel with a familiar mop of curly hair. She looked at the angel, to Nick, and then back at the angel.

Read the bottom.” He urged.

Bekah flipped the angel over and read: I'll watch over you too.

She smiled to herself. “Thanks. That's real sweet.”

You're welcome.” Nick grinned.

I..... should probably get going now.” She said.

Oh. Right.” His face seemed to fall before he said, “Hey. Do you want to hang out with me tomorrow?”

Um.. okay.” She agreed before adding, “This is way too surreal.”

Yeah... but Christmas is the time for miracles and all that. Right?”

Bekah smiled softly. “Right.”

Nick closed the small gap between them and wrapped her in a hug. “Besides,” he whispered, “what else do you expect when you're an angel?”

But I'm not....” She began to say but was cut off.

Shh. Yes you are. You're my angel.” He whispered to her as he gave her a small kiss on the cheek.
