Chapter 33
NICK’S P.O.V.
During the next few minutes, Liz had situated herself in my lap once again. My arms cradled her and her hands searched for mine, intertwining our fingers once the search was over.
Every so often, thunder rumbled and lightning cracked in the sky. Hail beat on the roof and wind whipped branches from the trees. Every time one of these ominous sounds made its way through the dense walls, Liz cringed or jumped. No matter how tight I wrapped her in my arms, I could still feel her every flinch. Soon drops of water started hitting my arms. “Liz, please don’t cry.”
“I’ll try not to.” Her voice shook and her body trembled with fear and nervousness. “It’s just the all-clear hasn’t been given…”
I kissed the top of her head. “Lovebug, don’t worry. I’m here.”
As time drew on, pillows and blankets were passed down our way. Announcements on ripped toilet paper were also sent to me. Basically, they were saying that tornado after tornado was heading our way and it would be best to stay in the hallway all night. Obviously, whoever had written the note didn’t want Liz to hear what was going on.
I arched my neck to look at Liz and found she was asleep. I propped a pillow against the wall to rest my head on and covered Liz and I with a fluffy, soft blanket with a hockey print. After much fidgeting to find a comfortable spot, my eyelids slowly closed and I finally fell asleep.
