It was the very last day of August, and the orange sun hung low in the sky, colouring everything around the young couple in a fairytale tint. The clouds gained a purple colour, as the sun sunk lower with the minute, the first twinkling stars appearing above the couple’s heads. Their hands were linked, as the girl sat with her back against his chest, his free hand playing with the blonde strands of her hair whispering soft and beautiful nothings into her ear; and she closed her eyes, her fingers entangling into his dark locks of brunette hair.
"I love you baby," he whispered softly, as not to break the intensity of the atmosphere; the little fireflies darting around them, creating circles of almost invisible glitter that blended with the proud lights of the stars.
Her fingers entwined with his and she circled hers around. No other words were exchanged, they both knew what they felt, just as strong as what the other felt, and they knew their hearts were beating as one.
There was no way they could get closer emotionally.
"Joe?" she croaked, and he looked down at the beautiful form, head on shoulder, below him.
"I love you too," she smiled, and he returned her smile; before feeling the sweet lips of his girlfriend touching his, melting him at his spot like a cup of hot milk; she smiled into the kiss and weaved her right hand into his hair, deepening the already passionate and lust filled kiss. His hands searched her back, as if he were looking for lost flesh. The kiss soon came to a natural end, and their foreheads touched.
He smiled and he sat there watching the colours of the sky disappearing, with her.
He began humming gently as they sat there, and she smiled on hearing his voice; his singing soothing her and making her feel loved. And he smiled to himself, he loved the way they just fitted together like a jigsaw.
He was so lucky to have her.
He ran his fingers over her pale skin, tracing her freckles as he did so.
She smiled watching his hand as he did so, her skin forming goose bumps at his touch.
She felt comfortable and happy with him there. She wanted to stay like that forever.
She didn’t know why or how she was there now, but she was. They had found each other and it had been the best coincidence in the world.
‘Aisling?’ he said quietly.
‘Yeah?’ she replied.
‘Thank you.’
‘What for?’
‘Being here with me now.’
She smiled to herself, happy she was there with him. There was no where else in the world she would rather be, than there in his arms. They were inseparable.
