Rachelle yawned and put her hand over her mouth. Nick looked over at her. “Are you tired?” he asked her. She shook her head no but yawned again. He chuckled. “Come on” he said gesturing toward her. They locked hands and walked upstairs to his room.

“You can sleep in here for a while…unless you’d rather head home to sleep” he said with disappointment leaking into his voice. She smiled. “I think I’d rather be here with you then alone at my apartment” she said smiling and laid down on Nick’s bed. He gave her a blanket and started to walk away.

“Nick…” she started and he turned around. “Would you stay here with me? At least until I fall asleep?” she asked shyly. He smiled and climbed into bed next to her and placed his arms over her stomach.

“We’re going to be parents” he whispered into her ear. She snuggled closer.

“Yeah” she said. “We really are.”

A few hours later she woke up to find Nick wasn’t beside her. She saw a note taped to the computer and got up to read it.

“Chelle, went to walk Elvis. Hope you don’t wake up before I get back but if you do everyone is out in the backyard” she read aloud and smiled. Who else would be so considerate to leave a note? She realized how lucky she was to be pregnant with Nick’s child instead of anyone else.

She started to walk downstairs and headed outside to spend time with her new family.

A few days later they had their first doctor’s appointment.

“I’m nervous Nick” she said as she sat on the table fidgeting. He kissed her forehead. “It will be fine” he told her.

“What if something is wrong with the baby?” she said frightened. Nick sighed. “You worry too much. Everything will be okay.”

The doctor walked in a few minutes later and did an ultrasound. “And right there is your baby…” she said pointing to the screen. Rachelle let a few tears fall out of her eyes. Nick’s eyes were clearly wracked with unshed tears.

“That’s your baby” she told him. He smiled. “No that’s OUR baby” he said embracing her in a hug.
