Rachelle and Nick just sat there for a few moments staring at their son. “He really is beautiful isn’t he?” she said to him, not taking her eyes off of him. Nick smiled enjoying every moment she was awake and every moment they spent together with their son.

 

“He is the most beautiful thing in the world. Little Mason…” Nick said playing with the baby’s fingers. Rachelle smiled. “I love you Nicholas Jonas…so much” she said very heartfelt.

 

Nick smiled “I love you to Rachelle Jonas” he said with a smile. She smiled back “I like the sound of that already” she said with a grin.

 

“As much as I’d like this to last I do need to get the doctor and the baby needs to be fed. My mom will take him back to the house while I’m here with you. I’ll be back in a second” he said. She handed him Mason and she watched them walk out of the room. Her eyes closed and she instantly fell back asleep.

 

She awakened to a wide awake Nick. “What happened?” she asked him tiredly. He smiled and kissed her forehead. “You fell asleep. Its fine. The doctor said your vitals are good. You might be able to leave in a few days.”

 

Rachelle just nodded her head deep in thought. “I know you don’t want to talk about it. But we need to talk about what happened…” she told Nick softly. Nick looked at the floor.

 

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

 

“We need to Nick.”

 

“When I was driving you here….all I could think was I was too late. That you were giving up…that you weren’t going to make it” he said keeping the tears at bay.

 

“You need to know. Given the choice I would do it all again.”

 

“Don’t say that…” he said a few tears inching their way out of his eye. “Come here Nick.”

 

He came over to her bed “Because I went through this we have the most beautiful little baby in the world. He’s absolutely perfect in every way. So how can you get mad at me for saying that?”

 

“You didn’t have to watch someone you love die or fall into a coma…you don’t get it” he told her. She shrugged “Maybe I don’t get it. Maybe I never will. But I do know that I’m here now talking to you. And I’m okay. Do you hear me?” she said taking his face in her hands. “I’m here right now. I’m not going anywhere.”

 

“Okay” he said confidently. “Okay.”
