Their romance came out of left field. They had been total strangers, but when they met at a local bookstore, one fell fast and hard for the other. Yet the other one was hesitant to get involved but decided to take the plunge anyway.
Now normally you would figure that it was the girl who was the hesitant one, but that wouldn’t be the case this time around. The boy was a famous rock star and while he was instantly attracted to the mystery girl, he had had his heart broken not that long ago and was hesitant to jump back into a relationship.
When the girl saw him, she just knew that she had to get to know him and take a shot. Hopefully the arrow that she shot would hit her target, his heart. She had been the one to approach him and gave him her number before she left. She knew of his rock star status, but she didn’t care about that in the least. She just wanted to get to know the gorgeous boy that she had spotted and started to fall hard for that day.
The girl had left such an impression on the boy that he just had to call her, after waiting a day of course. He was so nervous talking to her that there was a few times where he stumbled over his words. It was a rare occurrence for a girl to make the boy this nervous, but he found that, in an odd way, he liked it. Liked it so much in fact, that he decided to ask her out and make a date for the next day before they hung up the phone.
The next day, the two of them set out on an adventure. He took her to a nearby lake where there were two jet skies waiting. The two of them spent the day racing each other and trying their best to get the other soaked. As the sun set, they returned the jet skies and decided to leave. A kiss on the boy’s cheek was how the date ended.
Throughout the next couple of months, the two of them grew closer with each day. They had been on multiple dates and while the girl knew she was head over heels for the boy after a few short weeks, it took all that time for the boy to discover he felt the same.
On their six month anniversary, the pair had a picnic at the lake where they had had their first date. The boy had brought along with a stereo and played a CD that he made filled with songs that explained how he felt for the girl. When their song came on he asked her to dance. As the song progressed and slowed to an end, he told the girl for the first time “I love you”. She was more than happy to tell him the same thing.
During the next few months, there were times where the pair would go days without talking. The boy thought that it was because he was on tour with his brothers, but the girl knew differently. However for every day that they went without talking to each other, the next time they talked, they made sure to stay on the phone longer.
The boy came home after another month on tour and his first stop, other than his own house for a brief moment, was the girl’s house. It had been two days since the two of them had talked and he was excited to see her. However when he got there, he was greeted to the sight of her mother crying tears as she told him that the girl was no longer with them.
At first he didn’t believe her, but when her mother brought him inside and he saw all the other people mourning around what looked like an alter, with pictures and an urn, he knew. His heart shattered as he ran out of the house and back in the direction of his house. When he reached his destination, he ran up to his room and collapsed on his bed as his pain and sadness took over.
For days, the boy barely moved, let alone ate. His family was getting worried. They knew that he was hurting, but if he kept on like this, well they didn’t want to think of what could happen.
A week after the girl had passed; there was finally some progress with the boy. He was coming out of his room to spend time with his family and was starting to eat again. His family was still worried but they all knew that it was going to take a while before he was back to his old self. Especially since his girlfriend of nearly a year had passed away unexpectantly, or so they thought.
Another week passed when a mysterious letter arrived for the boy. There was no return address but as soon as the boy saw that handwriting on the envelope, he knew who it was from and nearly broke down again. Slowly he opened it and pulled out a letter addressed to him.
Joe-
If you’re reading this, then that means my mom followed my instructions to mail this after I died. Sorry about that by the way. You probably think it was unexpectant, but sadly it wasn’t. You know those days that you were on tour and we didn’t talk? Well it was because I was in the hospital learning that chemotherapy wasn’t working. The cancer I had been diagnosed with about a month before we met had ended up spreading to multiple areas and it was too risky to operate.
I knew when we met that there was a chance that this could happen. That I could die. But when I learned about the cancer and the doctors had warned me that such things could happen, I promised myself that it wasn’t going to hold me back from falling in love if I got the chance. When I saw you in the bookstore that day, I knew I was getting that chance and I took it.
I know that I should have told you, and I wanted to and tried to multiple times, but I could never find the right words. Plus I didn’t want you to start treating me like a fragile, porcelain doll or something. That was one of the last things that I wanted.
The last thing in the world that I wanted to do was hurt you, yet I’m figuring that you are hurting right now. I know I would be if the roles were reversed. I’m so sorry about hurting you though. It really was the last thing I would want.
Excuse any water marks that you see on the letter by now, because even though I’m trying my best to be strong, I can’t help but cry at the thought of hurting you and not being with you. I have to say that I’m quite happy with the amount of time that I had with you though. You made me so happy and the last time I was in the hospital, I had overheard the doctors tell my mother that they hadn’t expected me to last as long as I did.
So with that, I have to thank you. Because you came into my life, I got the chance to live longer. Not only that but I also got to be the happiest girl in the world, all because of the fact that you loved me. I really wish that we could have had more time together but I’m more than happy with what we had.
Before I end this letter, I want you to know that I’ll be looking over you from above. I want you to do something for me though, consider it my last request. Please do your best to move on. I don’t want you to end up alone in this world, and trust me, if I can, I’ll do my best to help you out from up there in the clouds.
Always remember that I love you, hun. I would say never forget me, but knowing you, you won’t. See you in eternity, hopefully that won’t be anytime soon though. :)
Love you always and forever,
Emerson
