Chapter Five
“You gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off your Sunday shoes.” – Footloose, Kenny Loggins.
“Hello Boston.” She said in pure irritation as my heart beat began to slow down. She had hardly touched me, and my heart began to race. Did she feel that too? That little spark of electricity?
“Hi!” a perky girl said walking up to me. She was a fan, definitely. “I’m Steenie.”
“Hi, I’m Kevin.” I said, holding out my hand for her to shake. She took it, and, smiled at me brightly.
“No Boston,” Emily said, turning her back to me. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
“It’s her ex.” Steenie said, seeing the look on my face. “Boston.”
“Yeah, I figured as much.” I said, then I found a witty remark in the back of my mind. “Is his last name Red Sox?”
“No it’s…come to think of it, I don’t even know his last name…”
I watched as Emily’s face started to fill with irritation, and I sighed. I wanted to do something to help her out, but you know, I just met the girl what, three hours ago? I really can’t just waltz over there, and pull her into a hug can I? that would just be weird.
“Goodbye Boston.” She said irritated. “I said Goodbye.” Then she slid her phone shut and walked over to us. “Sorry about that,” she said with a pleasant smile. “I’m Emily, and I’ll be the one photographing you today. I run things a little different though.”
“What do you mean different?” Nick asked her, curiously.
“I don’t make you pose.” She said, looking at me, and crinkling her nose before smiling slightly. “I let you guys act totally natural. How you would normally act in everyday situations.”
I was so used to posing, that this was going to be a bit difficult, at least I thought it would be, but once we got into the shoot, it really wasn’t that big of a deal. Joe was the best at it. He knew how to just let go, and have a good time, and it was even better when Tricia was around, she really was the same way, and they helped each other forget things.
“Kevin.” Emily said. “You’re too tense.”
I looked at her, confused, and she walked over to me, signaling behind her. The girl that was introduced as Steenie, stepped in, and took a position behind the camera.
“Okay,” Emily said. “Let’s try something different. You’re going to use me as your prop. I’m going to give you a situation, and you just go with it okay?”
“Okay…?” I say trailing off.
“Okay, so it’s a dark alley, and I’m afraid. It’s raining, and lightning is crashing, as is thunder…”
I slip my arms around her waist, and pull her towards me protectively.
“Okay, good…try this one…you’ve just asked a girl to marry you, and she said yes.”
I pick her up, and spin her around, a huge smile on my face. She started to laugh, and I set her down.
“We got some good ones in there.” Steenie says, eyeing me. I look away, and at Emily before pulling her aside.
“Can I give you a call sometime?” I ask her quietly.
She nods, and pulls my hand towards her, and she produces a purple felt tip pen out of her pocket, then she scribbles down ten numbers.
I smiled.
