"Hey, Denise. Paul said you needed something?" I said, going over and sitting on a kitchen bar stool.
"Yes, sweetie, I'm out of a couple things that I absolutely need. You wouldn't mind running to the store for me would you?" Denise asked, as though she didn't already know the answer. I laughed and replied,
"Of course, I'll go to the store for you. Do you have a list of the stuff you need?" I asked. Just then Joe came from behind me, into the kitchen, now with dry hair and clothes.
"Ooooh. Take me with you! Please, please, please?" he begged, jumping up and down.
"Absolutely not! Not after last time! I'm never going anywhere in public with you again!" I exclaimed defiantly, but laughing at the same time.
"Ahhh. It wasn't that bad! Come on!" he pouted, giving me the puppy dog eyes and wrapping his arms around my waist from the back. But no way was I falling for it.
"No way. I'm not taking you with me. I'll go find someone else," I said, hopping up and walking back outside.
Keiko's Point of View
I stepped back out onto the patio, and found just the person I was looking for. "Kevinnn! I need you to take me to the store to get some stuff for your mom," I said smiling cheesily.
"She needs you to go again?" he asked, shaking his head and smiling.
"Yes! Now can you please take me?" I asked, batting my eyelashes jokingly at him.
"Oh fine, but what about Joe? Doesn't he always want to go with you?" he asked.
"No way am I taking him after last time!" I said, laughing. "That was just embarrassing."
"What did he do this time?" Kevin asked, an amused expression on his face.
"I don't think I even want to try and remember enough to tell you," I replied, fake shuddering.
"Wow, must have been really bad," Kevin laughed. "Alright, let's go." he said, and we headed back inside, where he grabbed his keys. We made our way to his car and drove off to the little store a few miles away.
We got a cart and started getting the things on the list Mrs. Jonas made, chatting, and making our way around the small store. We soon had everything we needed and walked up to the front of the store to checkout.
"Uh oh," I whispered. "Ignore anything and everything this lady may say to you and/or us."
Kevin looked at me strangely with a puzzled look on his face. "Why?" he asked.
"Joe," came my short, but sufficient answer, to which he nodded his head.
"Why hello there! How are you today?" the old lady, Ms. Lee, who owned the shop asked us.
"I'm doing well," I replied politely.
"That's good, very good. And your husband?" she asked, glancing at Kevin, then back at me. "This isn't him?" she said, slightly confused.
"Oh, uh, no. This is...his brother," I said, slightly stuttering and looking at Kevin, embarrassed.
"Ah, I see, I see. He watching the baby," she replied in her slightly broken English. "Well, I see you again," she said, waving us off as we, or I at least, hurriedly left the store.
When we'd stepped outside and the door shut, Kevin burst out laughing. "Your HUSBAND? The BABY?" he asked, still laughing.
"Yeah, yeah. Ms. Lee always asks questions and stuff about how we're doing, what we're up to. Well this time, Joe being his crazy self, decided it'd be "fun" to tell her we were married and had a baby. Of course she doesn't know any better, and believed him," I explained, still shuddering at the memory.
"He did that? Wow. I knew Joe was crazy, but I never thought he'd do something like that," Kevin said, laughing.
"Yeah, well he did. And now I know never to go anywhere in public with him again!" I said, starting to laugh. "I think I'm going to have to find a new store to shop at to avoid questions about 'the baby,'" I said, making quote signs with my fingers.
"Well, knowing Ms. Lee, she'll probably forget all about it sooner or later," Kevin said, attempting to make it better for me.
"Ha. I doubt it. If she remembers anything, it'll be this!" I replied with a laugh.
"Okay, okay, so maybe she will remember," he said.
"Just promise you won't tell anyone?" I asked, a little worried.
"Have I ever told anyone anything I thought you wouldn't want them to know?" he asked, faking a hurt look on his face.
"Well, no," I admitted. "Thanks, Kev."
We arrived back at the house and carried the groceries into the kitchen.
"Aww, thanks sweetie. I don't know what I'd do without you!" Mrs. Jonas exclaimed.
"I don't know what you'd do without me either," I joked. She laughed, and told me to go see if the boys were almost done cooking.
I walked out to the patio and found Mr. Jonas shaking his head and a guilty looking Joe standing at the barbeque machine. "Joseph! I leave you for ten minutes and I come back to this? How did you even do all this?" Mr. Jonas asked.
"I didn't mean to! I don't know what happened..." Joe said, looking at the now burned food.
"Are you telling me that you burned all of it? Joe, that was enough for 6 people! I can't believe it," Mr. Jonas exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It was an accident," Joe said again.
Shaking his head again, Mr. Jonas went inside the house, telling Joe to clean it all up.
"Sooo. I guess we won't be having barbeque?" I asked, watching Joe attempt to clean some of the burnt parts, and trying not to laugh at him.
"Ha. ha. It was an accident. I totally didn't mean to," he said for the third time.
"Riiiigght. Only you, Joe. Only you," I joked. He smiled.
"So, I'm supposing your mom's going to have to cook something else now. I think I'll go see if she needs any help," I said and turned to walk back into the house. Joe started to follow me into the kitchen, "Uh, Joe? I don't think you'll be helping anyone cook for a while," I said, a small smirk on my face.
"Thanks. I am a good cook, thank you very much. That was just a one time thing," he told me.
"Yeah? What about the ti--" but I got cut off by Joe putting his hand over my mouth. I stuck my tongue out and he jerked his hand away.
"Ewwww. You're gross!" he said wiping his hand on his pants.
"Yeah, that's what you get for covering my mouth," I said, sticking my tongue out at him and walking into the kitchen.
