Chapter Three:

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.

~Dr. Seuss

“Hey guys. Guys! Idiots!” I resisted the urge to laugh as all three Jonas boys finally looked at me. “Thank you. Now come over here.” They looked at each other before walking away from the group of girls and towards me. “Just stand there while we wait for everyone to come in.” I said pointing to a spot behind were I was standing.

“Why do we have to stand here?” Joe asked.

“So that you guys won't get mobbed in case any other crazy fans come in. I really would rather not deal with that, so if you're behind me, they won't come.” I explained.

“Why? What are you? Our bodyguard?” Nick joked.

I smiled, “Sure why not. Don't worry guys, I'll protect you.” I laughed.

Nick smiled back, “Isn't that a guy's job though?”

I softly sang, “Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything, better than you.”

“No you can't.” Nick sang.

“Yes I can.” I sang back.

“No you can't.”

“Yes I can, yes I can, yes I can.” I finished hitting a high note. Nick looked slightly impressed, whether it's because of my amazing singing voice (yeah right) or the fact that I knew that song, I'll never know. He silently clapped and I took a bow.

“Thank you, thank you. Please, please stop.” I joked holding up my hands for him to stop clapping.

Nick shrugged and laughed, “Okay.”

I stuck my tongue out at him and turned around to wait for more people to come in. Well, that was weird. I thought. I've never, ever acted like that before... well except for when I'm doing my radio show, but that's different. That's when I'm Skye. I've never acted like this while I'm Anne. It's just... something about that boy... makes me wanna open up. He's just so sweet and fun. I sighed, trying to shake off my confusing thoughts.

The doors opened up and more people came walking in. There was a steady stream of people arriving for about ten minutes. They came in groups, couples, by themselves. They were laughing, joking, listening to music. And there were always those girls who would freak out as soon as they saw those Jonas boys. But I made it clear that nobody was allowed to tackle them by announcing every few minutes that everybody was supposed to take a seat as soon as they came in.

Finally everybody was here and I was ready to begin. “Thank you for coming here today. I really appreciate your willingness to help.” Aw, who was I kidding? I knew the only reason most of them came here was because teachers were offering extra credit to anyone who helps. Nobody actually came because they liked me. Whatever. “What I'm going to do is assign jobs. I'll need waiters, chefs, busboys, someone to collect the money and sell the tickets, things like that. And we also need to set up this cafeteria and make it look nice. I brought boxes of stuff, lights, decorations, centerpieces, table cloths....” I was interrupted by annoying giggling coming from every girl in the room.

I tried to ignore it, but it wouldn't stop. I glanced behind me. Joe was making weird faces. That explains the laughter, I thought. I quickly turned around, “Joe.” I hissed, “Stop it right now. You're ruining everything.”

I faced the crowd once more, but it was no use. I had lost control of the crowd, or maybe I never had it. “Excuse me. Excuse me. EXCUSE ME!” I shouted. Everybody got quiet. “I know for some of you it might be very exciting that the Jonas Brothers are here, but I do need your complete attention and I need your help. If you can not control yourselves I will ask you to leave or better yet, I'll ask them to leave.” I said pointing to the three boys behind me. “Now, if anyone is only here for them, I suggest you leave now, because I will not tolerate you giggling over them like a five year old while the rest of us are working. Is that clear?”

Nobody said a word and nobody left. I took that as a good sign, although I could already see the wheels turning in some of their heads. They were already planning how to bash me as soon as they got the chance. I tried to put that to the back of my mind as I finished giving out directions.

Soon everybody was up and working to set the place up and prepare the food. Now all I had to do was make sure it went off without a hitch, and find a way to get the boys to help, without causing a lot of ruckus. Easier said then done.

“So where would you guys prefer to work?” I questioned.

“Uh, I could help wash dishes.” Nick offered.

“And I could clear tables.” Kevin added.

“Ooo! Ooo! I wanna be a waiter. Please, please, please?” He squealed giving me his puppy dog eyes.

“Okay, and okay, and behave yourself or else.” I finally said. “Now, go help set up.” I added shooing them away. This could not be good, I thought rubbing my temples trying to get the immense headache to go away. If this is only the first event I'm afraid to see how the rest of the week will turn out.

“Yo Anne! Help me out here will ya?” I heard Kevin shout. I looked around 'til I spotted him. He was balancing on a blue plastic chair trying to pin up some white Christmas lights.

I walked over. “What do you need help with?”

“Could you hand me some pins, so I can pin this stuff up?” He asked.

“Sure thing, rock star.” I laughed. Dang, what was it about these boys that brought out my inner Skye?

I grabbed some pins and held them out to him, stretching on my tippy toes to make in easier for him to grab them from his high position. We worked like that for awhile, him pinning up the lights around the room, me handing him the pins. The time seemed to pass remarkably fast. I can't recall what we talked about, but there was a lot of laughing involved and even a time when he fell off the chair! He joked he really, 'fell for me'.

When we finished he thanked me like the gentleman he is and walked off to see what else he could help with. It seemed as though those Jonas boys couldn't leave me alone though, because no sooner had Kevin left than Nick approached me. “Hey, could you help me out here?” He asked.

I glanced at him, and couldn't help but chuckle at the sight that met my eyes. He had somehow manged to become tangled up in dark blue yarn and there were many pieces of brightly colored paper in his hair and all over his clothes. “What happened?” I asked bewildered.

“Well, uh. You see... itwasallJoe'sfaut.” He muttered.

I c.ocked my eyebrow at him, “What?”

“Joe did it.” He said.

“Why?” I was confused.

“He thought it'd be funny, apparently.” Nick mumbled his cheeks turning pink.

I crossed my arms for a moment, “Hmmm, well that's not very nice. Here, hold still while I try to untangle you.” I started fumbling with the yarn trying to get it to come off of him. Nothing was working. “Wait right here, I'll go get the scissors.” I ran off to find some.

“Anybody seen the scissors?” I asked.

I got no answers until Travis (a nice boy from my math class) pointed over to Joe. “Those are the only scissors?” I asked really not wanting to go over there. Travis nodded his head yes, so I plastered a smile to my face and walked over to Joe confidently. His back was turned so I just grabbed the scissors and started walking away.

“Hey! I was using those!” Joe yelled at me.

I reluctantly turned around, a smile still on my face. “I'm sorry.” I replied tightly, “I didn't know that, but I really need to borrow them, so...”

“Well I'm sorry, but I was using those. Still am, actually.” Joe retorted grabbing the scissors back.

It took all of my will power not to snap at him, but getting angry at him would definitely not fit under the description of 'Perfect' so I held it in. “Could I please just borrow them for a couple of minutes? Nick is currently entangled in yarn and I'm trying to untangle him.”

Joe's face lost it's harshness, instead he looked extremely... guilty. “Oh.” He said, “Um.... of course you can... borrow them. I just need them back when you're done.”

“Of course.” I smiled, the smile not quite reaching my eyes. I grabbed the scissors and stalked off, thinking not-so-nice thoughts about the middle Jonas.

“Super Anne to the rescue!” I laughed as I approached Nick.

He looked extremely grateful to see me. “I'll have you out before you can say, 'Anne's the most wonderful person alive'.” I joked.

We soon fell silent as I worked at snipping the yarn off of him. It seemed to take forever, but I finally got it all. “Done!” I exclaimed, yanking off the last piece of yarn.

“My hero.” Nick joked in a soprano voice.

I blushed, “No problem, but uh... you got some... paper on you.”

“Where?” Nick asked.

“Everywhere.” I laughed.

He started to brush it off of his clothes and soon all that was left was his hair. He tried to shake it out like a dog, his curls flying everywhere, but that didn't seem to be working. “Here. Hold still, I'll just pick them out.”

Nick stood very still as I stood on my tippy toes picking out all the paper in his hair. “If you didn't have so many curls, this would be a whole lot easier.” I grumbled, sifting through his mass of messy curls. I picked out quite a few pieces of paper making a small pile on a nearby table, and there were still more.

“Thanks.” I heard Nick say as I continued to rifle through his hair.

“Again, no problem. It's the least I can do since you guys are helping me so willingly and you don't even know me. The people at my school have known me since forever and they're only helping because some teachers are giving out extra credit if they help. Kinda pathetic isn't it?” I said.

“Yeah I guess. But it's there own fault if they don't bother to get to know a cool girl like you.” Nick replied.

I blushed, glad that he couldn't see it. “You don't even know me.”

“But I'd like to.” He smiled.

I didn't respond, instead I focused more intently on picking out all the pieces of paper. I was almost done.

“Ah ha! The last piece!” I shouted triumphantly holding the neon green piece of paper in between my two fingers.

Nick grinned, “Nice. Can I keep it?”

I looked at him strangely, “Sure, go ahead, you strange little curly haired kid.”

“I will.” He laughed and walked away.

“Hey wait!” I called suddenly.

“What?” Nick asked turning around.

“Could you please return this to Joe?” I asked holding out the scissors. “I'd really rather not go back to him right now.”

“Uh, sure.” He said grabbing the scissors and walking off.

I smiled, I liked hanging out with these Jonas boys... okay, two of the Jonas boys at least.

Re: Broken Perfection (ff)

That was a cute chapter. I enjoyed it. It made me quite happy. I liked it  :)  I can barely wait for the next chapter. When will that next chapter be? I hope you can post soon. I am very nervous because I have a project due tomorrow and I don't know that my posterboard is any good and I have to give a short presentation in front of the whole class that's 3 to 5 minutes long. I hate talking in front of class, so basically I'm going to die my junior year because that's when I have to take speech. Public speaking is EVIL!!!! Eviler than Cruella De Vil!!! Eviler than the evilest thing ever!!!!

eh, i know what you mean. i hate public speaking. i always shake and i can't control my breathing no matter how many times i practise.

the funny thing is, i love being on the stage. i absolutely adore acting, but i think that's because when you're acting you're pretending to be someone else. public speaking is all you. and that's scary.

but, i'm sure you'll do fine. =D
