I Told You So
Her green eyes stared into brown ones as she looked at him softly. She didn’t want to but she knew that she had to. There was no way that she could lead him on like she was.
“I love you and I always will but this isn’t going anywhere and we both know it. It was fun while it lasted and now we need to get over it,” she says trying not to cry.
“Marina…”
“No Nick. I’m not going to keep playing our little game. We love each other, how could we not? But I can’t. This feels like such a charade. Coming here, sitting watching a movie and sharing the occasional kiss or not. We do this like it’s all we can do. I do love you but I’m sorry…”
“You like Joe.”
“No I don’t…”
“I don’t believe you I know you like him. When he walks in the room you light up. Why do you think this is going no where? I realized a while ago that you liked him. Just admit it and get it over with. He liked you too I think,” Nick tells her softly.
Marina sighs and brushes some of her light brown hair out of her eyes.
“I didn’t mean to like him…”
“I know. And I except that you do. You two belong with one another. I love you Marni but you love Joe.”
“No I do not…”
“Yes you do.”
“You are a horrible boyfriend. Trying to set me up with your brother.”
“Marni we just broke up I’m not your boyfriend anymore. And yea I am trying to set you up with Joe deal with it.”
Marni laughs and wraps Nick into a tight hug not knowing what else to do.
“So Nick what’s up with you and the gorgeous babe?”
Joe’s flirty voice always could make the situation a little less serious.
“The gorgeous babe?”
“My bad your girlfriend,” Joe says rolling his eyes.
“Ex-girlfriend Joe.”
“No way what happened? Did Curly Sue tell you he liked boys,” Joe teases.
“No he told me you liked me. And as cute as you are I couldn’t miss the opportunity,” Marni replies.
“He said what?”
“Marni he is going to kill me.”
At that comment Nick runs from the room with Joe chasing after him leaving Marni alone laughing. Kevin walks in a minutes later and looks at Marni.
“So what are they fighting about?”
“Nick and I broke up and Nick told me Joe likes me so when I happened to mention that to Joe he got a little mad,” Marina laughs at the fact.
“Oh that explains it.”
“Yea.”
“So you like Joe.”
“What is with you Jonas boys and saying that? Nick told me the exact same thing.”
“Well if it wasn’t true.”
“It’s not,” Marni says with the lease convincing voice she has ever used.
“I don’t believe you,” Kevin replies.
“Am I really that obvious?”
“Let’s get Frankie in here.”
Kevin calls the youngest Jonas boy into the room and he looks between Kevin and Marni.
“So wait are you still crushing on Joe or what?”
Marni lets out a groan as Kevin laughs at her and Frankie looks between them.
“No seriously are you?”
“Yes now go play with some toys.”
“I told you.”
Marni smacks Kevin on the arm and he laughs before leaving her alone. Joe walks in a moment later and wraps his arm around her shoulder causing Marni to laugh. He looks at her and she grins removing his arm from her shoulder.
“I love you kid but no. I totally just broke up with your brother like five minutes ago.”
“Oh come on you know you want me.”
“Yea cause every teenage girl in the world wants you Joe… Well actually she might. But Joey be nice to her.”
The pair looks to the doorway and spot Kevin’s girlfriend and Joe’s best friend standing there giving them looks.
“I am always nice.”
“Yea right Joe. If he gives you any trouble at all just hit him in the face. It usually works. Or come get me from Kevin… never mind just hit him.”
“Tell Kevin he is a pain in my butt will you,” Marni asks?
“Of course. He is the biggest pain in everyone’s butt. Unless you count Joe.”
“Which of course we both do.”
“I am right here you know.”
“We know.”
The two girls share a laugh as the older one walks off leaving Marni and Joe alone together. Her green eyes drift up to his and she smiles softly at him.
“Chocolate.”
“What?”
“Your eyes they are chocolate.”
“And yours are…”
“Oh I want to hear this one.”
“um… they are cash money.”
Marni laughs and then wraps an arm around Joe leaning up and kissing his cheek.
“You can always make me laugh.”
“And you will always make me smile.”
“So my eyes are cash money and your eyes are chocolate. Nice combo.”
“That they are.”
“This is ridiculious Joe you like me and I like you there is no way that our feelings are going to change. But I feel bad because of your brother and I don’t think I can do this to him. I mean I like you a lot but it just feels like betrayal dating Nick and then you. I mean it’s like I used your brother and that’s totally not what happened. I mean I liked him but feelings change you know and I can’t…”
Before she can even finish her sentence Joe leans his face down and gives her a soft kiss. She returns the kiss the best she can and then pulls away to look him straight in the eyes.
“You cut me off.”
“You needed to understand that I understood. Now let’s get back to that.”
“Joseph!”
“Marina my beautiful Marina,” he answers his hand on her jaw.
Shaking her head she leans in and touches her lips to his once again before pulling away with a laugh.
“No more kisses. Bye Joe.”
“TEASE!”
“I love you too.”
At that comment she smiles and walks out of the room, straight into Nick and Frankie’s room and lying on Nick’s bed tells him that she was falling for his older brother. Nick just laughed and pushed her over so he could lie down also.
“Don’t say it.”
“But I have to. I told you so.”
