Wannabe Queen
Her tears stained the two tickets she had laid out on her desk, the two tickets that were suppose to lead her to one of the happiest nights of her high school carrier. But then she had gotten his call, last minute of course, he was a last minute type of guy. So ignoring the pretty dress that she had worked so hard to find, the make up she had gotten done specially for that night, and the fact that her hair was plastered to her head with enough hairspray to kill a small animal, she sat down in front of her computer and started to type. Nothing important really, just a list of reasons why she should/ should not break up with her boyfriend of almost three years. The should list was coming along well when she thought to all the good times they had shared and the should not list grew in size. Soon she was done and ready to count the reasons to figure out exactly what she was going to do about him. It only took a moment to count the long lists and when she was finished her mouth dropped in pure shock. They were dead even 25 reasons in each list. And then with a little frown she added reason number 26 to the should list. He didn’t show up for my Prom. Her eyes clouded over as she looked the list over justifying every single answer along the way until her last reason. He had a good reason for not showing up to her Prom, that was for sure he had an addition to the European tour he was on, it was added the day before, and he hadn’t found out right away cause he was trying to make sure that he would be awake for her Prom and had been sleeping.
It seemed kind of foolish of her crying over something that she hadn’t wanted to go to in the first place, but the way he had talked about it, a first Prom for both of them, she grew to love the idea. So hearing his voice telling her that he wasn’t going to be able to make it crushed her. One last look at the dressing in the corner and she slammed her hand on the desk, scattering all the papers on it and causing her to cry harder, because the one thing that stayed was a picture of them when they went on their first date.
They were fifteen years old and awkward as could be. But even back then everyone had said how perfect they were for one another. He was the calm and collected one while she tended to bounce of the walls and do things irrationally. That’s actually how they had ended up on a date. She had seen him walking through a mall and ran, grabbing a hold of his arm and smiled at him. He looked shocked at her and she laughed before stating her reasoning. He laughed a little too after he found out that she wasn’t a crazy stalker fan and with a slight hesitation agreed to go out with her.
Their date was… interesting. Pictures at her house, her mother insisted, then at his, his brothers something about blackmail, then a nice dinner followed by a movie. All of that was the normal stuff that they did on the date. On the way home though that was the interesting part. She ‘forced’ him into buying a few supplies so that they could have a little fun along the way. Of course when the got back to her house both claimed they didn’t know why the neighbors cat and dog were purple, pink, blue, green, yellow and orange, that they hadn’t seen anyone throwing eggs at passing cars, that they didn’t notice the fact that all the trees on the block had been covered in toilet paper, and neither knew why their hands were stained with color. The memories were great and soon they were dating on the low down. It wasn’t long however before a fan found out and plastered her name and face all over the world, prompting just about every girl in her school to hate her. How could they not she was dating Mr. Perfect, Nicholas Jerry Jonas.
Yes that Nicholas Jerry Jonas, the youngest member of the hott boy erg hott group the Jonas Brothers. It shocked her to find out who he was, before he mentioned it she hadn’t known. But she understood why he was so worried at first. Just now after three years you would think she would be a little bit more used to it, but of course she wasn’t. She wasn’t used to his random calling schedule, how he said he would call back and didn’t, the fact that her text messages went unanswered, or that he was never there. She missed his hugs, his kisses, the way he held her when she was sad, and how he held her hand. She just missed him. He had been gone for almost a full year and before that he was booked solid basically for two. It seemed their relationship was just in words they never really went out anymore, hadn’t for a while they just talked. That’s all that they did. They hadn’t actually kissed in about eight months, she had briefly seen him at a concert about eight months ago before he had to move on to the fans, the reporters, the next town.
Her phone let out a familiar tone, telling her that he was calling yet again, about four hours after he said he wouldn’t make it to her prom. With a little sigh she picked up her phone and then it all blew up. The first argument they had ever had and it ended with her breaking up with him. Neither expected it and neither really wanted it but she knew that she couldn’t last any longer. With a sad sigh she slipped on her green dress, it matched her eyes, fixed her makeup the best she could, grabbed one of the tickets and made her way to her prom.
Halfway through the king and queen dance she feels a hand on her shoulder and turns tears streaming down her face as she thinks of him again. And suddenly there he was his brown eyes staring into her green ones as he reached his hand over to stop her tears. But it doesn’t help and she pulls her face away from his hand looking up with sorrow at him.
“What happened decided it was a good time to come see me finally?”
“Mar…”
“Don’t start with me Nick. I haven’t seen you in eight months, and the day I was suppose to see you, you cancel on me only to show up anyways. After I broke up with you. How did you get in here I had your ticket?”
“Your mom gave it to me. I was just trying to surprise you, which is why I said I couldn’t some. And I didn’t want to break up with you. I love you and I will always love you. Baby,” he wraps her in a tight hug and she can’t help but wrap her arms around him also.
“This isn’t fair,” she mummers into his chest as they start to slow dance with one another.
“What isn’t baby?”
“Cause you weren’t here they said we couldn’t win. And I wannabe Queen”
He laughs at her words, before spinning her around in a circle and getting a better grip on her. They dance the night away, at Prom, their first Prom and when it ends he leads her to a limo. She gets inside shaking her head, knowing that only he would do something for her, and leans against the window watching everyone else before them.
“What’s wrong?”
“It just feels so close now. I mean we are doing rehearsals for graduation. Soon we’ll be out of school. I really can’t believe it, seems like it was just yesterday that I was chasing you down in the mall trying to convince you to go on a date with me,” she laughs.
“Who wouldn’t want to go out with you Marni? I mean everything I’ve told you tonight I love you. And since you are out of school in a few days I was wondering how you feel about traveling the world with your boyfriend and his brothers.
”The little bit of loose brown hair she had fell in front of those green eyes as they lightened shocked at him. She didn’t want to believe it. She wasn’t just seeing him for the night, he wanted her to go on tour with him. She tries to breath as calmly as possible before stuttering out her answer.
“We…we…well duuuuuhhh I want to go with you.”
“Good.”
He leaned over and gave her a small kiss on the lips causing her to smile at him.
“Now how was that for a first Prom,” he asks with a laugh?
“Eh. It wasn’t our first date but it was pretty close.”
She grins widely before leaning her head contently on his shoulder as his arm wraps around her in a protective hug. His lips lightly touch her hair and then her forehead as his fingers play with her own.
“I love you.”
“And I You.”
”And it’s a Prom to remember right?”
“Deff.”
