She was ten when she met him, he on the other hand was almost 12. She had been running away from her older annoying brother and smacked straight into him as he was running from his two older brothers. She stared at him for a second and then frowned and looked at the ground.
“Hey I’m Nick.”
He stuck out his hand to help her but and after a hesitation she took it. But as soon as she was up she wanted to run again, and almost started off before realizing that he was still holding her hand. Turning to face him she gave him a look and violently jerked her hand from his grasp. He looked shocked at her and as she started off again he called after her.
“What’s your name?”
She stopped running and looked back a crooked smile on her face as she said her answer.
“My mommy said not to talk to ugly people.”
He looked shocked at her and with a little wave she started running again, this time away from him back to her house, and back to her best friend. With a grin she ran into the backyard, where she left her clueless friend and her family.
Three days later they met again, this time in the middle of the hallway at school. She was late for her first class and he grabbed hold of her arm to stop her. She turned and when she saw him a smile grew on her face.
“I’m Nick and you are?”
“Kayla-Rae.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Yea same.”
He let her go to class and as soon as she stepped inside Megan asked her what happened. She frowns and asks how Megan knew something happened, only for Megan to explain she herself had been late and saw their encounter.
From that day on the trio were inseparable. Megan, Kayla, and Nick were always together talking to one another happily, singing songs and laughing at everything and everything. And soon Kayla grew fond of Nick’s older brother Joe. He was hilarious and a dare-devil a lot like she was, and both were clumsy to an unknown degree.
Soon instead of the trio they were a quad. But then it happened, the boys became famous, leaving Kayla and Megan alone. It was heartbreaking for the girls, Kayla was falling for Nick and Megan for Joe.
As time past they went from the quad, to the trio to the duo to uno. Even Megan left, she went off to a summer camp leaving a now fourteen year old Kayla-Rae alone. One day she heard it, she heard his voice playing on the radio.
“Hey we’re the Jonas Brothers.”
Yea that is Nick alright. And the voice that followed after was Joe and then there was Kevin. She smiled at the boys’ voice and then she heard their song start to play, She couldn’t help but nod her head along with the music, everyone had to admit it was catchy.
Then she heard something that made her smile wider than she had smiled in a long while.
“The Jonas Brothers will be playing a show in their hometown of Wyckoff, New Jersey at the Izod center in two months.”
She went online right away and ordered a ticket for herself and one for Megan, knowing the other girl would kill her is she went by herself. A quick text message to Megan tells of the plans and the other girl sends back a little note telling her how excited she is.
Two months later the girls are standing outside in the freezing weather waiting for their best friends to show up. They spot familiar shags and call the boys names but they glance past them without a second though. Kayla and Megan look at one another, sighing before making their way to their second row seats.
“Well this isn’t going as planned.”
“You can say that again.”
Someone places their hand on their shoulders and the two girls turn slowly. Spotting a very familiar face Kayla smiles and wraps the woman into a hug.
“I missed you Mrs. J.”
“I knew it was you two. The boys didn’t believe me. You’ve changed so much.”
“Not that much. Hair and height mainly.”
Kayla dyed her hair black with blond streaks, while Megan’s hair went from blond to light brown. And both went from rather short to at least five seven. But they weren’t the only ones who had changed so had the boys.
“Come on I know that they can’t wait to see you.”
“I don’t know.”
Megan looks shocked at her best friend and so does Mrs. Jonas. Kayla flushes and then speaks quickly.
“I mean I love the boys but I’m kind of scared. They are famous now.”
“They are still the same boys from 2 years ago.”
“If you say so.”
“They are we wouldn’t have it any other way. Come on Frankie misses you.”
Kayla-Rae and Megan look at one another happily. They follow Mrs. Jonas backstage and look around in shock at the scene going on in front of them. Everyone is running around and there is not a calm moment going on.
“Wow.”
“Yea.”
Mrs. Jonas smiles and leads the girls to a room that says, Jonas Brothers Dressing Room on the door. She knocks and hearing a chorus of come in walks in the girls following after her. Kayla takes the scene in her eyes spotting on the curly haired boy who broke her heart two years ago when he left.
“Nick.”
He turns and spots her and a frown forms on his face. It’s like he doesn’t recognize who she is. And then she realizes that he doesn’t.
“Well my mommy always did tell me not to talk to ugly people. But I always have been the dare-devil.”
Megan laughs slightly as the boys all look at them.
“Kayla-Rae.”
She smiles at the sound of his voice saying her name.
“Nicholas Jerry.”
He crosses the room quickly and wraps her in a tight hug.
“I missed you.”
“You too Rock star.”
He pulls her away into a corner, out of sight of his family and her best friend. His arms wrap around her waist and then his lips meet hers. She gasps out of shock before allowing his kiss to continue.
“Took you long enough,” she whispers softly when they pull away.
“What?”
“You heard me I have been waiting for you to do that since I met you.”
“I’ve been wanting to do that since the first time you called me ugly.”
She laughs slightly and wraps her arms around him in yet another tight hug. They emerge from the corner and start to talk happily, finding out everything that has happened in the past two years and then she breaks a bombshell on all of them.
“I’m moving.”
“To where?”
“California believe it or not.”
“No way.”
Soon there is talk of a relationship and everything blooms from there. She moves to California, about three blocks away from the boys, she starts to act and sing, she even goes on tour with them, all while dating Nick as low key as they possibly could make their relationship.
One day when they were hanging out by the pool at his house, she looks over at him and smiles as widely as she can.
“You amaze me.”
“I adore you.”
“Good to know.”
“Hey wear you’re black dress tonight I like it better than your blue one.”
“And you have all the fashion sense.”
A quick look at his outfit causes her to raise her eyebrow, he has been wearing the same swimsuit since she met him basically. He has two different ones that he wears and both are very old and very small.
“Very funny. Just wear it please.”
“Okay.”
That night, at a concert for the pair, she wears her black dress and joins him and his brothers on he stage a small smile on her face. They sing their song together and when it’s done he doesn’t let her leave the stage instead holding her on the stage their fingers laced. It’s been four years since they started dating, and she had a slightly hint about what he was about to do. Gently kneeling he looks up at her a huge smile on his face.
“Kayla-Rae I love you will all of my heart. Will you marry me?”
With a smile on her face she leans down and kisses him on the lips heartly, before pulling away and smiling down at him.
“Took you long enough.”
