Kryptonite: A nick Oneshot
She looked around her hair blowing in the wind. She made sure that no one else was around before slamming her hand down on the ground. The earth shutters and she grins widely. Hearing her mother’s sigh from half a mile away she speeds back home happy. She pops up beside her mom causing the older woman to gasp and she laughs.
“What are you going out there Skyler?”
“Just letting off some energy before the concert mom.”
She sighs and walks inside shaking her head at her brunette daughter. Skyler just grins and hurries up to her room to change for the concert that her best friend wanted her to go to. Half an hour later she was ready and running to the car, which was being driven by her best friend Keri.
“Hey Sky what’s up?”
“Me.”
The two girls laugh at the corny joke and then continue on the way to the concert. It doesn’t take long for them to see the theater, hundreds or girls age 5 and up were waiting outside. Skyler raises her eyebrow at her best friend and with a smile nods. The two race through the crowd, before meeting at the front of the line. Keri is slightly out of breath but Skyler is perfectly content.
“How do you beat me every time?”
“It’s magic.”
Not a total lie, just one of the powers that Skyler had after all she was Clark Kent’s granddaughter. The girls managed to make their way to the front of the theater, finding their front row seats and Skyler’s legs start to tingle slightly.
“What’s wrong Sky?”
She must have made a face at the feeling. Skyler just shakes her head and smiles at Keri trying to reassure the girl that everything was okay. That was an odd feeling and she remembered being told about it she just doesn’t remember by who.
The girls all around them, and Keri, start to scream and Skyler looks up. Spotting a tall muscular boy with curly brown hair she gasps. Keri looks at her friend slowly and then looks to where her eyes are.
“Oh that’s Nick, he’s one of the lead singers of the band.”
Him? He was it for her? Her grandfather had that rock, her father had a certain flower, and he was hers? Nick was her Kryptonite. How was that possible, how could Kryptonite be a person?
“I have to go Keri.”
“Oh come on Sky! You haven’t even heard them play yet and I think you like Nick.”
“Keri I have to go. Now!”
She could feel the tingling moving from her legs up her body. That wasn’t good, according to her grandfather it started as a tingling sensation and then as it spread it became more painful until they couldn’t move.
“No Sky you promises you would stay with me.”
“KERI!”
“Alright we haven’t done this in a while but um we’re gonna call someone up on stage and sing to them. So let’s see.”
This was one of the other boys looking around, Nick walked over to him and said something motioning in her direction and she paled. The boy looked over and he nodded causing a smile to break out of Nick’s face.
“So we’ve decided we want that girl in the front row with the look of panic on her face. The one standing next to the blond, the brunette girl.”
She let out a loud groan as Keri shoved her towards the stage.
“This is such a bad idea.”
She moans as a big man helps her up on stage and she tries to stand as far away from Nick as she can so she stands on the opposite side of the stage. But then that boy who called her up on stage pulls her towards the middle of the stage and she feels the tingling start to feel like needles in her.
Her face must show her pain cause the boy removes his arm from around her shoulder and looks at her funny. But then a goofy smile breaks out of his face and he talks again.
“So what is your name gorgeous.”
“Sky.”
She barely got it out there was no way she was getting her whole name out. And when Keri shot her a look she tried to smile the best she could. But the pain was slowly getting worse.
“Well Sky we are going to sing Hello Beautiful to you today.”
Skyler smiles at him and then almost crouches over in pain when Nick brings a stool over for her to sit on. But then she remembers something her grandfather told her. ‘You can overcome the pain of the Kryptonite. All you have to do is loose your power.’
She didn’t want to loose her power but she didn’t want this pain. She knew that power could come back and would, her father worked with flowers and gave his power daily so that he could do his job and as soon as the flower was gone he was better. So she did just that, she gave her power away.
Soon she didn’t feel any pain but she felt like the weakest girl in the world, when the song was over and they all gave her hugs, hugging Nick was the hardest, she realized what it was like to have no strength. Their hugs, which normally would have felt like nothing almost crushed her.
She walked off the stage and down to her seat where Keri wrapped her in a hug.
“Sky what’s up? I mean I’m the only one to call you Sky and you told them that was your name.”
“I have to get out of here Keri.”
“What? Why?”
“KERI I have to leave now.”
Skyler pushes her way through the crowd of girls, most who are jealous that she was on stage with the boys, and some who are happy for her. As soon as she escapes into the fresh air she looks around, spotting no one, and then runs. She runs until she doesn’t think she can run anymore and then she runs back to the theater.
She knows that Keri will wonder if she’s not there when the concert ends. She can hear the teenage girls all screaming and zones it out the best she can until she starts to feel the tingle again. She looks around wondering if he really was the reason, maybe her Kryptonite is something else cause he is no where in sight. She sighs but then the pain grows and she slowly pushes away her powers, she becomes weak one again.
“Hey Sky what are you still doing out here?”
She turns and spots the three boys who had sung to her and she frowns slightly.
“What do you mean why aren’t you still in there?”
“Concert ended, like an hour ago.”
She looks around and realizes that they were right no one else was around and she shakes her head.
“I guess I zoned out.”
“So you want to tell us why you looked like you were in pain when you got on stage.”
“Cause Nick you are my Kryptonite.”
“Kryptonite?”
“Yea.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means that this will be a one time thing.”
She presses his lips to his before running off, slower than usual.
“Sad thing is I like my Kryptonite.”
