Chapter 12
That was the second time today he left me hanging on: “Well..” And to be honest it was getting rather annoying. My eyes dipped down his body, and then back up to his face, tension running through his veins, it was just too obvious. “Well what?” I asked bluntly, I snapped okay? I hated it when people just wouldn’t finish their sentence. It made too many sorts of speculations race through my mind, it was just plain annoying.
From the corner of my eye I observed Joe and Olivia. Seeing Joe suavely make a bow, offering Olivia his hand, she obliged taking it with giggles escaping her lips. It looked quite adorable actually; the well dressed up Joe walking hand in hand with my friend Olivia, wearing her baggy old Levis and one of her old tank tops. She didn’t want to get her good clothes smothered in grizzly bear drool, now did she? See, I told I was always right.
Returning back to Nick who had firmly tucked his hands away in his pockets, shyly looking me in the eye whilst I was on the verge of literally shaking it out of him he finally continued: “Well, you know since Joe is busy with Olivia now, maybe you’d like to go grab some coffee at the terrace.” Nick suggested quietly, his voice was nearing a stammer but he didn’t stutter. Whoa hold up – did he just ask me out on a ‘date’? Nah, it was just coffee right? “Yeah, sure.” I agreed flashing him a calm grin, seeing Nick regain his confidence whilst a lopsided smirk spread across his face.
Within a matter of minutes I found myself seated across from the fro bro on the zoo’s terrace. I had ordered a glass of orange juice, and Nick had ordered a coffee, black. How much coffee did this bloke shove down his throat anyway? “You sure love the caffeine.” I commented with a sly grin plastered on my face as I fiddled around with the straw stuck through the ice cubes and orange colored liquid. “Hey, it keeps me awake. Or do you prefer it when your dates are asleep?” Date. He said date. So this did mean something more to him than I had expected, was I going to burst his bubble of joy, or just go along with it? A mental war proceeded in my head as I just snickered quietly, to grant myself some extra time to debate on this. In a way, I didn’t mind ‘this’ being a date, he was nice and had something interesting to bring to a conversation, and don’t get me started on the view, because I’m definitely not complaining. Maybe this ‘date’ wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
I shook my thoughts, realizing there had lingered an awkward silence between the two of us. Deciding it was best to just enjoy the moment, other than trying to plan everything out, or try and understand every detail. The ‘date’ remained quite casual, with witty jokes shooting back and forth, we chatted about random things, like Joe’s love life – well that was probably the main thing we ever talked about, what’s new? After Nick and I spent about two hours hanging around on the zoo’s terrace it was time to part our ways. I still felt the electricity running through my veins as his lips pressed against my cheek; man that really was something else. Curling up in my bed, a small meek grin was plastered on my face whilst my hand reached for the light switch. I’d give Joe a call in the morning, to ask how his day with Olivia went. But for now, it was time to fall in a deep and much desired slumber.

“Hook, hook me up. I wanna feel the rain in my hair. Hook, hook me up. Where should we go I don’t even care. Anywhere is good enough hook me up, hook me-.”
My hand snatched the ringing cell phone off my night stand, I groaned pressing “accept call” not even bothering to check who was calling. “Hello?” I grumbled sleepily, looking over at the digital alarm clock on my night stand. 6:32 AM. Are you kidding me? Who the heck was crazy enough to be up this early, let alone call someone this early?
“He blew me off!” A voice exclaimed offensively. “What?” I murmured under my breath, trying to place who this woman’s voice belonged to. Ding. Olivia. “Wait a minute, Joe blew you off?” I asked, suddenly snapping awake. Did this mean I was wrong, for the first time I was wrong? No, no, no. I am never wrong, not once. “Yeah, he said something like: “You’re a really cool girl, but I think we should just stay friends.” Yada, yada.” Olivia rambled sounding quite upset, if you guys didn’t notice, Olivia never took rejection very well. “That’s impossible. Joe did not blow you off.” I persisted shocked, shocked that I was proved wrong for once. “He did! We were having so much fun, we were joking around at how we saw you and Nick romancing at the coffee place and then suddenly he dropped the bomb on me.” I sat straight up in my bed, petrified at the thought that I was wrong. It surged through my body like venom ceasing the ability to think about anything else. “I’m going to go talk some sense into him. I’ll call you Liv, I gotta jet.” I hung up, furious and still trying to gather myself whilst I quickly jumped in the shower.
Stepping out I threw on a pair of red skinny jeans, a graphic tee and a pair of vans. Grabbing a cup of tea I sat on my couch, with my laptop on lap whilst I did a little research. Olivia was as close as it got to Joe’s perfect girl. My eyes trailed over to the clock that hung on my vibrant red colored wall. 7:25 AM.
Ding dong.
What was it with people today? Don’t people sleep in anymore? Rising up from my couch I waddled over to the door, turning the doorknob around, pulling the door open, finding none other than Joseph Adam Jonas, my client who put my record of successful couples to an abrupt halt. “YOU.” I exclaimed crossing my arms heatedly. “Why did you blow Olivia off?!” Joe blankly stared at me, remaining silent for a moment, taking the time to just take a breath. “Why hello to you too April, it’s wonderful to see you.” He said calmly, I hated it when people remained calm whilst I was surging with mixed emotions. “Why Joe? She is as close to perfect as it gets!” I claimed, running my hand through my hair, what was I going to do with him?. “Can’t you accept the fact that you might be wrong for once in your career?!” Joe questioned sticking up his index finger as he said ‘once’. I grumbled shaking my head stubbornly. “You don’t get it do you? I am never wrong. I’ve got a rep to protect here.” Joe sighed shaking his head. “You are so co-cky you know that?!” He remarked quietly, shaking his head with another sigh, rather nerve racking. “She’s exactly what you want.” I stated confidently, I wasn’t giving up. Joe silently stared down at me with a sigh. “I think you really have no idea what I want.” Joe mumbled coolly, looking down at his feet. “Oh yeah? And what might that be?”
“You.”

You can’t disguise a heart while it’s breaking, you hide behind the smile you’re faking. It’s all about the chances you’re taking, oh and you know that you’re making it all come alive.
