Intro
The basketball court was unusually full today, that made me even more nervous of standing at the free throw line. The ball’s bumps and smooth lines under my fingertips. I turned over to look at my family; their faces were frozen waiting for my first shot. My older brother had tight fists and pursed lips. I took my jersey and wiped my sweaty forehead with it.
I dribbled the ball once and looked over to my best friend Becca, she finally smirked at me and nodded.
The instructions my brother had told me earlier played over in my head as I softly whispered them out.
“Hands at six and nine…”
I bent my knees and pushed them up with little force and pushed the ball out of my hand.
Screaming, cheering and clapping filled the gym. I smiled in satisfaction as everything got quite again.
“Hands at six and nine…”
The ball went in again and the buzzard went off almost as loud as the cheering.
I ran up to Becca and hugged her tightly.
“You did it Dani!” she laughed
“We did it!” I laughed back as the whole team crowded around us.
“Finals here we come!” our coach threw his fists in the air.
I turned around to see my family come meet me when I saw a bunch of chestnut curls bouncing behind them.
He quickly smiled at me and walked out of the gym.
“Good job girls!” My older brother smiled high fiving as many girls as he could.
My eyes stayed focused on the green gym door, waiting for him to come back.
But he never did…
