A week went by before Joe saw Maria again. On a boring Friday he caught a glimpse of her in the school cafeteria. She sat with some girls who definitely looked like ballet-girls, eating something he couldn’t figure out what was. It looked strange… She looked beautiful, though. Last time he saw her, all sweaty after practising, she was still beautiful, of course, but now… She looked even more beautiful. He watched her laugh. She had such a pretty smile. A small smile spread on Joe’s face. This girl he wanted to get to know better.
Sitting in the cafeteria with her friends Aaron, Catherine and Steph, munching away on yesterday’s potato-moussakka (A/N: a veggie-version of the Greek dish, it’s amazing!), she felt someone’s gaze on her. She looked around the cafeteria, suddenly locking eyes with Joe, the music-guy she bumped into a week ago. She flashed him a shy smile before returning to what her friend was saying.
What Joe saw next surprised him. Her hair had been in a messy bun the last time he saw her, but now it was down, revealing something he did really not expect. As she shook her head no at something her friend had said, part of her hair fell over her shoulder and down on her front, revealing a bright hot-pink streak. He smiled to himself. A rebellious ballet dancer. He liked her more and more with every little thing he got to know about her!
"Ew. How can you possibly eat that?!" Aaron said, pointing at Maria’s food with a disgusted face. "Hey, it’s not bad! The Greeks didn’t die from eating it, did they?" Maria replied. Aaron shrugged, returning to eat her apple, while Catherine and Steph were deeply focused on a conversation about Kayla, the school *CENSORED*. Everyone knew she was a *CENSORED*, but still, the guys wanted her and the girls wanted to be like her. Apparently, she had been the reason for yet another break-up, as she (yet again!) happened to be the third part of a situation involving cheating. Maria shook her head and focused on her food, until she noticed how her friends had gone silent around her. She looked up to see them stare at something or someone behind her. It turned out to be a someone, cause suddenly the person coughed to get her attention. She looked over her shoulder to see Joe standing there. She turned in her seat to face him better, smiled at him and said, "Hey, what’s up?"
Joe couldn’t help but smile back. "Am I disturbing?" he asked. She shook her head no, "Not at all," she said. Feeling the gazes of her friends, she apparently decided to introduce everyone. She said "Joe, these are my best friends Catherine," the redhead smirked and nodded at him, "this is Aaron," the short girl with Asian looks and a neon-pink bow in her hair flashed a happy smile "And this is Steph," the brunette gave him a nod as hello. "Girls, this is Joe, he studies music," she said to the girls. "How do you do, ladies?" Joe smiled, deciding to play on his charm. Aaron giggled, trying to cover it up with a cough, Steph and Catherine just rolled their eyes. They knew these music-boys, all right! "So, Joe," Maria smiled, "what’s up?" "Can I talk to you for a second?" Joe asked her. She nodded and got up, and he led her out into the hallway, before leaning against a locker. She did the same. "So, what did you want to talk to me about?" she asked. Joe decided that he might as well be honest with her from the start. "Well," he said, "I can’t seem to get you off my mind since we met last week, and the weekend’s coming up, so I’m wondering if maybe we could hang out? Not like a date, just hanging out, you know, as friends.. Hanging out, as friends do, and-" he stopped abruptly as she laughed. "What?" he asked, now he was confused. "Nothing, you’re cute when you ramble like that," she giggled. Joe laughed, "Oh yeah, I tend to do that in situations like these, a great way to avoid awkward silences," he winked at her, causing her to laugh again. "Well, I’d like to hang out with you. How about you pick me up tomorrow, and we find out what we want to do?" she smiled. Joe nodded, "That sounds great!" They swapped numbers and Maria gave Joe her address before turning around and going back to her friends. Joe smiled to himself. Now he was finally getting to know the rebellious ballet-dancer.
There! Tell me what you think :)
