Chapter Eight - this is a filler chapter, i just got home, and i needed to update.
The cold windowsill was gripped tightly by her toes, her hands bracing herself in either sides of the walls. Joe’s eyes beamed into her cautiously, trying to predict her future moves. The breeze drifted through the window, filling them with the sweet scent of summer. Kaylee bowed her head to watch him out of the corner of her eye. His hand was extended towards her, and she was afraid that when she took it he would take off to wherever it was they were said to be going.
She needed to take his hand. She needed to feel his touch. She heard Jon snoring in the room over, and a wave crashed through her, regret for what she felt like doing.
Though, he would always be here, she thought. He wouldn’t leave, he couldn’t. Her family was already torn. What bad would it be if she was gone?
The thoughts were interrupted by his soft fingertips grazing her cheek, pushing the stray strands of hair behind her right ear. His lips were parted, and his eyes were wide with wonder. She turned once more, taking a glimpse at her room, at the door. Kaylee pulled her hand to her lips, and softly pressed a kiss to her palm to blow it in the direction of her brother’s room.
She turned back, and a wide, bright smile spread across Joe’s face. Kaylee lifted her hand to his. Her fingers laid straight in his before curling in between, locking them both together. He nodded, "Hold on," the whisper filled the air.
Joe bent his knees slightly, and before Kaylee could blink, he thrust upwards into the air. She panicked, afraid of falling and crashing to the ground. Afraid that this was all a dream and she was about to plunge to her death, but almost as a miracle, the wind caught her and brought them back into the air. The wind moved her hair gracefully, and Joe watched her as her eyes widened, taking in the sight of the city lights, eventually the lights of the country, and then the lights of the world. The sun woke Europe and Asia to their day, while the night still lingered along her home, sending everything except the strong lights into darkness. She gasped at the beauty of the sea, the beauty of the entire world she was soon to leave behind. The air became colder by the second. She was beginning to freeze until Joe, warm as the summer air she had just left, brought her in closer.
He pointed up.
The stars were around them, floating in their own spaces, colors surrounding them. They mesmerized Kaylee. It was as if a trance had fallen over her, causing her eyes to blink slowly to a close. Her last memory of the night was a jolt in her stomach, sending her in the speed of light in Joe’s arms to their destination.
Though, she would only find out when she awoke.
