Since I'm very excited to go see the Dark Knight again I've decided to post another chapter now and hopefully I will have comments on it by the time I get back later tonight!
Chapter Two, Part Three:
Just Want You To Know
Backstreet Boys
Lookin' at your picture from when we first met
You gave me a smile that I could never forget
And nothing I could do
Could protect me from you that night
Wrapped around your finger, always on my mind
The days would blend 'cause we stayed up all night
Because Jess and Nick were the most organized couple, their bags were already packed for tomorrow’s expedition to Dallas, TX and they could enjoy their last night of “normalcy” on a nice romantic date. They were still new to their relationship, only about a month and a half into it and still playing the “getting to know you” game. Their relationship was no where near as settled as Kevin and Aimee’s or Joe and Sam’s, but they seemed to be heading in the right direction.
Out of the three Jonas boys Nick had always been the one who was more cautious about his relationships; taking everything slow and not letting his emotions get the best of him. He was constantly testing his girlfriends to see if they were with him because he was a Jonas Brother or if they really like him for him. Most of the girls had gotten fed up with the tests he put them through and broke up with him before he could really get to know them, which was probably for the best. The less he felt for them, the less the heartache.
But Jess was different and he had known that the moment he first laid eyes on her.
*Flashback*
“Sulking?” Nick heard Aimee’s voice ask from behind him. She moved to stand where he was looking out on everyone at the party. The boys had just played a Change for the Children benefit concert near their home in Hollywood, and as a thank you for their support the boys had thrown a party for all their friends at a local bowling alley. While everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, Nick was the only one who wasn’t, but no one had notice up until now.
“No.” He snapped obviously annoyed she had interrupted his thoughts. Besides he didn’t really want to be consoled by one of his brother’s girlfriends; Aimee and Sam had been the reason he was in a mood today anyway…well indirectly the reason. Nick had never really been bothered by the fact that his brothers had found girls who they were ready to have a serious and steady relationship with, while he stayed single. He always felt he was too young for something so serious and he couldn’t imagine being tied down at this point in his career; in a way he felt too committed to his music that he couldn’t possibly balance a girlfriend as well, let alone a serious one. But here he was feeling sorry for himself, while his brothers enjoyed the party with their significant others. “You’re going to miss your turn if you don’t get back to your lane.” He huffed.
Aimee rolled her eyes, “I decided after my 5th gutter ball that bowling wasn’t my thing, so I gave up my turn for Frankie. Don’t you want to come join us Nick?”
“Nope. I just want to be here.”
“That’s stupid. You boys put a whole lot of effort into planning this party and you aren’t even going to enjoy it? Come on next game Kevin and I want you on our team, we’re going to play against Mitchell Musso and his friends and from what I hear he has some serious bowling skills. We need you as our secret weapon.”
Nick looked at Aimee and realized he couldn’t possibly be mad at her. It wasn’t her fault she was in love with Kevin and it wasn’t Sam’s fault she was in love with Joe; that’s just how fate worked it out. But that didn’t mean he still wasn’t lonely. “Fine.” Nick sighed allowing Aimee to drag him back to the lanes.
When they got back to Kevin and Aimee’s lane Aimee quickly put herself back by Kevin’s side, snuggling her arms around his waist as he typed their names back into the computer. Nick made a gagging motion to himself, but stopped when he heard Mitchell call his name, “Hey man what’s up?” Nick asked, but his breath suddenly caught in his throat when he was the girl who standing behind Mitchell. She had to be around his age, 5’3” with long brown hair, and stunning blue eyes; it was almost like she had him hypnotized. Even in a pair of skinny jeans and a graphic tee she looked like someone straight off the runway.
“Oh, Nick this is my best friend Jess Matthews. You may have seen her on the Disney Channel. She has her own show, Picture This, and her album “This is Me” is on top of the charts. Jess, this is Nick Jonas.”
“Hi,” She said blushing slightly.
I smiled, “Hi.” He couldn’t possibly begin to explain what he was feeling right now. It was something he hadn’t really felt before. Usually he blushed when he met a girl he found pretty, and tripped over his words, but with Jess he had so many things to say and ask. There was this sudden feeling of comfort, like he had known her forever. “I haven’t seen your show yet, but I love your new single.”
“Thank you. I have to say I love your music too. It helped me a lot through my break up with my last boyfriend and I’m telling you way too much …”
Nick laughed, “No it’s ok. I like to hear when our music touches somebody, it’s the reason we write. Well besides the fact that we like to do it.”
Jess felt a little less nervous when he laughed. She had never felt this way around a guy. Usually she found it easy to talk to guys, mainly because she saw them more as friends then as potential boyfriend material, but Nick he was a different story. She felt nervous around him and so badly wanted to impress him. Although she was never a Jonas Brothers fan per say she loved their music and was dying to meet the boys behind the music; that’s why she had begged Mitchell to take her to the party and now that she was here she was definitely glad he agreed to it.
“Ummmm so Jess…” Nick started to say looking over at Kevin who was attempting to show Aimee how to throw the bowling ball properly down the lane. “Do you maybe want to move somewhere quieter and get to know each other?”
Jess smiled, “Sure.”
*End of Flashback*
Nick picked Jess up promptly at 8, which was also something you do when you are in the beginning of a relationship in order to make a good impression. He learned from Joe that whenever he picked up Sam later than he was supposed to the night never went good. “You look lovely.” Nick said noticing that instead of her signature skinny jeans and graphic tee she had decided to wear a simple plum color sundress that surprisingly brought out the blue of her eyes.
“Thank you,” she said blushing, and fidgeting with the ring on her right ring finger. Nick noticed it was the hot pink ring that read fabulous that he had bought for her as a gag gift from one of the 25 cents machines at the bowling alley when they first met. He had no idea she still had it or that she even wore it.
“You’re wearing the ring I got you.” He said.
“Oh yeah. I like it.” She smiled. “It’s different. It reminds me that I don’t always have to be perfect like a diamond whenever I’m around you. I can just be my fun, funky self.”
Nick laughed, “I’m glad I make you feel that way. Because I feel the same way around you.”
