My Imagination
It was ten o'clock on a Saturday night. The Jonas Brothers had just finished performing a concert for hundreds of adoring fans. The trio walked off stage with exhausted smiles on their faces. The eldest of the three, Kevin, was especially tired. He had probably only gotten three hours of sleep the previous night. He rubbed his hazel eyes as he walked through the crowd of people working on things backstage. His legs stopped moving when he noticed a gorgeous blonde girl wearing a cream colored dress and high heels standing in the middle of a bunch of people who were running around, trying to do their jobs. What puzzled Kevin the most was the fact that she was completely unfazed by the commotion around her and the commotion around her seemed unfazed by her. She simply smiled at him as she stood almost completely still. Kevin turned his head away from her for a split second, but when he turned back she was no longer there. Kevin scanned the area, but she was no where to be found.
"Kevin?"
He jumped from the surprise of his brother, Joe. Kevin turned around and was face to face with him. "Yeah?" Kevin said, his mind still on the mysterious girl.
"Come on, man. We're heading to a hotel tonight." Joe informed him. Kevin nodded and followed his brother out to the car, looking back behind him for the girl every three steps he took, yet she was still gone.
Kevin got in the passenger’s seat of the car and buckled his seat belt. While his brothers and father discussed the show and future plans for the week, he leaned his curl-covered head back on the head rest and zoned out. His eyes focused on nothing in particular, for he was becoming more and more tired as each second went by. The car was stopped at a red light and Kevin was facing the window. His eyes became heavy, and right before they shut, he saw her. Once he realized it was her, he opened his eyes again. He searched the area her car was stopped at with his eyes, but it was no longer there. I know it was her, I saw her. He thought to himself, and sighed with the disappointment of the fact that he let her get away… again. He shook the thoughts from his head and leaned back again with another attempt to take a nap. His eyes shut again, and he was nearly asleep when the car stopped. “We’re here.” Mr. Jonas said and Kevin groaned. He got out of the car, just barely keeping his balance. Nick and Joe grabbed their bags and quickly got the keys to their rooms from their father who had them in his pocket since he picked them up earlier before the show. Kevin trudged over to his dad and held out his hand for his room key.
“You look pretty tired, son. Go get some sleep.” His father told him as he handed him the key to his private room.
“Okay, I was planning on doing that anyway.” Kevin yawned and headed to the hotel’s lobby. He made it in and looked around for a few seconds, and could have sworn he saw the girl again. She was just standing by the check in counter, as if she was a statue. Kevin blinked and shook his curls, and the girl was gone. He tried not to think about her and got onto the elevator. He pressed the button labeled ‘7’. It lit up, but the doors were yet to close. He yawned again, his tired eyes squinting shut as the doors began to close. He rubbed his eyes and right before the doors were shut, he saw her standing right behind them. Kevin jumped back, startled from the shock of the girl being there. To think, the mysterious beauty was just on the other side of the doors. Well, at least she was until he started to go up. Who is she? I have to find out more about this girl. Kevin thought. He would never be able to sleep if he didn’t, and he needed some sleep.
The doors to the elevator slid open, revealing the seventh out of eleven floors. Kevin was just about to hit the button to go back down to find the girl, when he heard a noise coming from the hallway. He quietly stepped out of the elevator and looked to his left. Nothing. He then turned to his right, which also held nothing. Nothing but doors to the rooms. He sighed and looked at his key. Room 711. That would have been on his left. He turned and walked down the hallway, not looking up from his key. Then he heard giggling. He turned around quickly to find the girl standing at the doorway to a staircase that lead to the roof. Kevin was speechless. Even from the other end of the hallway, her beauty was overpowering. Even without saying a word, Kevin new there was something special about her, something different, something he liked. Before Kevin could muster up enough courage to say something to her, she disappeared up the steps. Kevin dropped his bag and ran down the hallway to the stairs and followed the path he thought she took.
“Wait! Come back!” He called up the dark, musty staircase. Kevin heard faint foot steps coming from ahead of him. He climbed up and up as fast as his tired body could carry him. “Hello?” He called out as he reached the 10th floor. There was no spoken reply. The only sound he heard was the screech of a door being opened from above him. That sound caused him to speed up, now taking the steps two at a time. He reached the top to find that the door to the roof was wide open. He cautiously walked out onto the starlit top of the hotel. Kevin’s hazel eyes searched the area but they couldn’t see her. He sighed again and walked over to the side of the roof and leaned on the wall that came a bit below his chest. He looked down at the city and yawned. “Who are you?” He whispered to himself about the girl he was desperately wishing to see again.
“Charloett.” Kevin heard a girl’s voice say and turned around to find the girl standing there with a smile on her perfect face and her bluish green eyes glowing.
“You.” He said quietly, barely able to speak. He was stunned by Charloett’s beauty and the fact that she was there in front of him, not disappearing this time.
“Me.” She said back with a smirk on her face. Kevin smiled at her humor.
“You’re not disappearing this time.” Kevin said, stating the obvious, even though it came out sounding more like a question. He really wasn’t the best at thinking of things to say to girls he really liked.
“Do you want me to?” She asked him as if she would vanish when, and if, he said yes.
“No! No, I mean, don’t leave.” He exclaimed at first, then tried to sound a little less desperate when he finished his sentence.
“Okay then, Kevin.” Charloett smiled at him and he blushed.
“Wait, how do you know my name?” He asked, but then realized it was a dumb question considering he is Kevin Jonas.
“I know everything you want me to know.” She replied simply. Kevin was confused with her answer to his question. He was expecting something more along the lines of ‘You are Kevin JONAS!’ or ‘OMJ how would I not know your name?!’, but instead he got a puzzling answer.
“What do you mean?” he asked unsurely. Charloett stepped closer to Kevin, now close enough to reach out and touch. She smiled innocently at him, and he couldn’t help but smile back. He forgot all about the weird thing she said moments earlier. He was lost in her eyes.
“Oh, no. Kevin, I see what you’re doing.” Charloett shook her head, causing a few locks of her hair to fall in front of her face.
“Doing what?” Kevin asked calmly as he brushed the hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. Charloett looked him deep in the eyes.
“You and me. We can’t.” She said sadly, but not quite letting it show. Kevin became disappointed, and once again, confused.
“Why not?”
Charloett sighed and smiled at him. “We can’t be, because I’m not.”
“I’m sorry Charloett, but you’re not making any sense.” Kevin chuckled slightly. What does she mean, ‘I’m not’. She’s not what? He thought to himself.
“You’re the one that decides if I should make sense or not, Kevin.” She said seriously, but with a sweet tone of voice. Kevin raised an eyebrow at her, questioning her last statement.
“Well, then start making sense. I’m not quite following what you’re trying to say.” Kevin said with a slight laugh in his voice.
“Kevin, what would you say if I told you I was imaginary?”
“What do you mean imaginary? Like an imaginary friend?” Kevin asked her, not quite taking her seriously. She nodded. “Then I’d say, whoever imagined you has a great mind. You’re beautiful.”
Charloett smiled, “Well Kevin, you have a great mind.” She said looking deep into his eyes. He, himself, was already lost in hers.
“And you, Charloett, have great lips.” Kevin said and leaned in towards her. Their lips met and stayed passionately together for a few seconds. When they pulled apart, Kevin had a smile on his sleepy face, while Charloett was emotionless. Kevin noticed her unsatisfied look.
“Don’t tell me you didn’t feel anything.” He said as if he were disappointed.
“I didn’t feel anything.” She said, still emotionless. Kevin sighed.
“I’m sorry. If you don’t like me, I didn’t mean…”
“Kevin, no.” She interrupted him from his apology, “Kev, I can’t feel anything.”
“What do you mean? Why not?” He asked he, afraid that something was wrong with her.
“Kevin, I’m not real. You’re just imagining me.”
Kevin stared at her, shocked at what she had just said. How could that be possible? He can see her. She’s right there. He felt the kiss. He liked the kiss. He liked her. “That’s not possible. I felt the kiss, Charloett. I could feel it!” Kevin was almost becoming angry. Not with her, just the fact that she really might not be a real person.
“Imagination is a powerful thing, Kevin.” Charloett said with a smile. She kissed Kevin once more on the cheek and waved. “Get some rest, you look exhausted.” And with that she was gone.
