CHAPTER 5
Alexis’ POV
Toot Toot Toot Toot Toot Toot Toot
I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock. But as I felt the warm sun on my face, I found myself smiling. Today was our first day of shooting. I couldn’t believe that I was really going to be part of the show and I get to work with Kerry and Kellie, two girls whom I feel would become my best friends in no time. Unfortunately, I found myself scowling when I remembered that I’d be seeing the Jonas boys again today. Of the three of them, Joe, the second one and Kellie’s partner in the show, seemed to be the only nice one, but he was seriously border line annoying. But, I’d rather get stuck with him than his two rude brothers: Kevin, who was just so quiet and dull all the time, and Nick who was always cranky.
“Morning hun” my mom said as she got out of the bathroom. “We have to leave in 30 minutes so you can get ready for hair and make-up” she said as she wore her earrings.
“Can you believe it? My daughter is going to be on TV” she laughed as she smoothed out her button down top.
“I know, it’s so surreal, mom!” I giggled as I grabbed my clothes and headed for the bathroom.
After I got ready, my mom and I stopped over for bagels and coffee before heading off to the studio.
“Alexis!” Kellie called as I got to the dressing room. She and Kerry were already getting their hair and make-up done.
“Good morning girls!” I said cheerfully as I sat down on my chair. Yes, MY chair. It even had my name on it!
“Oh gosh! This is so cool!” I laughed as I pointed on my name.
“I know!” Kerry said, giggling as Liza, our stylist was blow drying her hair.
“Oh look, the guys are here” Kerry said as she looked towards the door.
“Hey girls!” Joe said as he walked up to each one of us and hugged us while we were still on our chairs.
“At least someone’s in a good mood” Kerry whispered to Kellie and I when Joe got to his chair for hair and make-up.
We all giggled until we saw Nick glaring at us.
“What’s his problem?” Kellie asked.
“Beats me” I said, shrugging.
“And unfortunately for you, Alexis love, you have to do a scene with him today” Kerry said as she flipped through today’s script.
I groaned. “I know. And I have to pretend like there’s a spark between us or something” I said, sighing annoyingly.
After Liza worked on my hair and make-up, Ruth led me to wardrobe. It’s a good thing that we had a school setting for the show, so my costumes weren’t so much different to the ones I usually wear in real life.
Georgina called on me and Nick to work on our scene first.
“You can have about 10 minutes to run through the script while the team prepares the lights and cameras, ok?” Georgina said as she left me and Nick on one side of the studio.
“Ok, so let’s rehearse?” I asked, making sure I had a smile on my face.
“Isn’t that what Georgina told us to do?” he answered sarcastically.
Geez, sorry. I was just trying to be friendly.
We went through the scene without much emotion. I guess it would be much different when the cameras were rolling already. Nick was still pretty much getting on my nerves.
“Ok, Katie and Cameron, we’re ready for you” Henry, our director, chuckled as he called us.
The scene was set in the music room. I was playing the guitar, trying to work on a song, and Nick, er Cameron, would overhear me from the hallway.
Katie: (sings a few lines over and over again, trying out different chord progressions each time; groans after a while)
So many dreams I wish would come true
So many things I wish I could do
So many fears I wish would leave
But I know, in me, I just have to believe
(Cameron knocks on the door)
Katie: (looks up and smiles) Oh hi Cameron!
Cameron: Hi Katie. Mind if I come in?
Katie: Sure, come inside. I was just trying to work on a song, but I can’t seem to find the right chords for the chorus (sighs)
Cameron: Need some help? (grabs a chair and sits beside Katie)
Katie: Oh would you? I know you’re really great with the guitar (smiles shyly)
Cameron: (chuckles) I’m not that great, I just like to play, that’s all (smiles) Can you show me the lyrics again?
(Katie pushes chair where her notebook is and places it in between her and Cameron)
Cameron: (reads lyrics then looks back at Katie) Wow, this is really good!
Katie: Thanks! Now if only I could find the perfect melody for it (smiles)
Cameron: (thinks for a minute and then plays a chord progression) How about this?
Katie: Hey that’s nice! Let’s try it.
(Cameron plays the chords again while Katie sings)
Katie: Ahhh! That was perfect! Oh gosh, you’re amazing Cameron! (gets too excited and suddenly hugs Cameron)
Cameron: (laughs) Well, the lyrics were pretty amazing too.
Katie: Thanks!
(Both characters end up looking at each other’s eyes for a moment)
(Bell rings and Cameron shakes his head while Katie blushes)
Cameron: I think we better head to class (laughs nervously)
Katie: Yeah (smiles shyly)
Cameron: C’mon, I’ll walk you there (helps Katie pack everything away)
(Both exit scene and walk to class)
“And cut!” Henry yelled as the bright lights went off. “That was perfect! I love the chemistry that you two have!”
“Ok, next… Kerry and Kevin!” he yelled. “Kellie and Joe, be ready after them!”
“You guys were amazing!” Kellie said as Nick and I headed towards her and Joe.
“Thanks!” I said. I looked at Nick and he just gave them a faint smile.
“Yo yo yo Alexis and Nick, your scene sure did kick! Katie and Cameron sure brought it on… Oooh yeaaah!” Joe rapped again out of the blue. Probably his 10th rap in two days.
Kellie and I groaned while Nick just walked off to his chair.
“Sup y’all, two girls just groaned, I’d probably say Kellie and Alexis got me poned!” Joe rapped again. This time, Kellie and I made sure not to groan and we just rolled our eyes at each other before bursting into laughter.
Joe then ran to Nick and started dancing like crazy around him. Man, a hyper Joe sure was an annoying Joe.
“Um, weren’t you guys supposed to rehearse for your scene?” I laughed as Kellie and I watched her partner annoy everyone else.
She groaned. “I know. I swear, he can’t stay in one place for like… a minute!”
I laughed. Poor Kellie. Stuck with the hyper 19 year old. I said goodbye first as I walked over to my mom.
While walking, I smiled, happy that I did pretty well on my first shoot. I faced Nick and smiled at him but he was too busy with his phone, his forehead creased again. That’s too bad though, because when he was playing Cameron, he actually seemed like a really nice guy. Unfortunately, Mr. Nick Jonas is more of a Mr. Crankypants than a Cameron.
