Alrighty...I am posting the next chapter now, cause I have a busy weekend planned...getting everything ready for winter...and I am not sure when I will be able to post next.
Chapter Drei:
***********************************************************************
Would someone please let me know if I crossed a line with the last two sentences? I don't wanna step on any toes or upset anyone, so if it bothers you, please let me know. :-)
“Do I have to drink blood?” His face was all scrunched up in disgust.
“Oh, yeah. Lots of it.” I laughed as he gagged. “Easy, Joseph. We drink synthetic blood. Doesn’t come from humans. Or animals. It’s like our version of soy milk.”
“What did you say your name was, again?”
“Nisha.”
“Nisha.” He repeated.
“It means darkness. So does Samar. We were both born to vampire parents, so, unlike you, I have been a vampire since birth. I was never turned. Never had to be bitten.” Finally, we made it back to the hotel room. “So, I’m sure you probably need to head back to your family. Let me just grab my bags.”
“Shouldn’t you rest? I can call Kevin and let him know I’m ok. We don’t have a show tonight…”
“Fine. Make your call. I’ll just rest for a few minutes.” I collapsed onto the bed. I must have drifted off, because I totally missed the conversation between Joseph and his brother, but I was rudely awakened when I heard a bang. “What the…”
“Sorry. Just having some words with Kevin. He’s mad that I’ve just vanished, and can’t give him a valid excuse for my behavior. You’d think he was Mom and Dad and Rob all rolled into one.” Apparently, the sound that had woken me was Joseph throwing his cell phone against the wall. “Oh, crap. I made a dent in the wall.”
“Yeah. You’re going to have heightened senses and abilities. But none of that bat stuff. Man, I could kill Samar for what she’s done to our image among humans.” Joseph sat down on the bed next to me.
“What all should I know?”
“Joseph, we don’t have some sort of vampire manual. You learn as you go along. Day by day. I’m here to help you learn it, but…”
“Well, one thing you should learn…call me Joe.”
“Not Joseph?”
“I only get called that when I’m in trouble.”
“I’m sure you hear that often, then.” He stuck his tongue out at me. “So, what’s my cover, Joe?” It felt weird calling him Joe. In my head, he was Joseph.
“I-uh-I told them you’re my girlfriend.” I sat up straight.
“Oh, no you don’t. I didn’t sign on to be anyone’s girlfriend.”
“You said it was up to me to make your cover story. It’s the first thing I could think of.”
“And no one questioned why your brand new girlfriend is suddenly going on tour with you?”
“Well, Mom and Dad aren’t going on tour with us this time. And you’re not my new girlfriend.” Oh, this could not be good. “We’ve been dating for a year. I told Kevin that I invited you and you said yes, so I can’t go back on my word.”
“A year? You mean, you and I…we have to…”
“We have to what?”
“Do we have to share a bed or something?” He started laughing at me. “What?”
“You’re joking right?” He held up his left hand, and I suddenly noticed the ring.
“You’re married AND you have a girlfriend?”
“No, it’s a purity ring. I’m saving myself for marriage.” It was my turn to laugh. He didn’t join me, which made me stop laughing.
“You’re serious.” Holy cow. He WAS serious. “Wow. Well, that’s cool, I guess.”
“Sorry to burst your bubble.” He grinned. “I know every girl wants to sleep with me.” I couldn’t control my eyes from rolling.
“First, you’re what, 12? Second, I am hardly a girl.”
“First, 19, so there. Second, really, how old are you?” I sighed. He was not going to let this drop.
“Honestly, I don’t know. But if it helps, I remember making a few voyages with Columbus.” His eyes grew and I smiled. “Oh, and are you planning on telling your family about…”
“No. They won’t believe it, and they certainly won’t understand it.” I nodded. “Can I ask a question?”
“You just did.”
“The blood thing…is it normal to get…well, turned on by it?”
“It is. But you’ll learn to control it.”
