The Sixteenth Wish
Chapter Fifteen: Joe’s Point of View
“You have a girlfriend.”
I sighed at the fact my little brother was right. How could I forget about Taylor? What was I going to tell her? I don’t even know how this happened.
I had been wandering around the halls of Alex’s house, in search of her game room. Of course, I got lost. Since I wasn’t about to admit defeat, I didn’t go back to ask the others for help. Well, and the fact that I was lost and didn’t know where they were. Anyway, I wandered into the last room at the end of one of the halls. It wasn’t the game room, but I figured I could hang out there until it was time to leave.
After a while, I began to get bored. I mean, come on, I was all alone in a dark sitting room with nothing to do. That might be why I got scared when I heard someone outside the door.
“Wh-who’s there?” I stuttered to the mysterious sound outside. I heard a girl’s laugh and then the door opened, revealing her.
“It’s just me, you big baby.” Alexis chuckled as she walking into the room carrying three glasses of water. I could feel my face turning red and was glad that I couldn’t find the light switch earlier so that she couldn’t see.
“Oh, well what do you want?” I asked her in a semi mean tone. I don’t know why, but for some reason I just didn’t get as mad at her as I usually do.
“Well, I heard someone in here and since everyone else is in the living room and you said you were going to the game room, I figured I should see who it was.” She answered with a sweet sound in her voice that I don’t remember hearing before. Something soothing, something beautiful.
“Oh.” I uttered, not being able to think of anything else to say.
“I’ll leave if you want.” Alexis said and started to turn towards the door, being careful not to spill the water.
“No!” I exclaimed, I obviously startled her. She turned around and looked at me with a look that I could tell showed her puzzlement of why I didn’t want her to leave. I always wanted her to leave. Except today. Today something was different. I felt some kind of change. Something I couldn’t control. But I liked it.
“No?” She asked me, sounding confused but also sort of happy.
“No, I- I mean, stay.” I stuttered again. I couldn’t explain the effect she had on me now. It was overwhelming.
“Really? You’re not trying to trick me into staying so you can pull some kind of sick joke, are you?” Alexis asked suspiciously. I smiled at her. She knew me all too well.
“No, not this time.” I chuckled and she smiled. She walked deeper into the room, towards me, then placed the water down on a small wooden table.
“Can I ask you something?” She said once she was standing right in front of me.
“Sure, anything.” I answered, looking into her light brown eyes. She smiled.
“When did you get so nice?” Her voice was soft, yet angelic. I blinked to remind myself that this was real. She stared back into my eyes, waiting for a response with a small smile showing on her face. I took a light breath.
“When did you get so beautiful?”
And with that being said, Alexis had a response. A response that I could not have imagined being better than it was. She placed her lips on mine, gently, but meaningful. After a few sweet seconds, she pulled back with a grin on her beautiful face.
“I never would have guessed that all those years of hatred would lead to this.” She smiled with her right hand resting on my cheek. I placed my arms around her waist.
“I’m just glad that they did.” I replied and kissed her again.
I was thinking about Alexis. About her beauty, her smile, her laugh, her lips. So many things were running through my mind, but not one of them involved a girl named Taylor Swift.
