Chapter 19 B
I grabbed the flowers from the cashier and took off. I had fifteen minutes to make it back to the house before my date with Zee. I got there with three minutes to spare and made my way to her room. Nothing could ruin my good mood. Well, almost nothing. Before I could knock, I heard Zee and Nisha arguing loudly.
“NO!!!” Zee was shouting.
“Tell him. Tell him the truth. I will NOT have you lying to him anymore.”
“But…”
“No, Zee. I am not covering for you anymore. Either tell him the truth TONIGHT, or leave.”
“I’m going to go with neither.”
“If you love him like you say you do, you’ll tell him the truth. I know Nick. He won’t love you any less.” Nisha’s voice took on a very soothing quality.
“Well, I can’t take that chance.” I frowned. What the hell were they talking about?
“Then I will just have to MAKE you leave.”
“HA! I’d like to see you try.” Suddenly, the sound of a glass shattering jolted me back to reality and I decided now would be a good time to knock.
“Zee, are you ok?” I asked, trying to make my voice sound as nonchalant as possible. There were a few moments of shuffling behind the door before Nisha opened it and stalked out.
“Hey, Nick.” Zee appeared suddenly, and smiled at me, as if nothing had happened. Well, I could play ignorant too.
“Hey, you ready to go?”
“Absolutely.” I handed her the flowers and she smelled them. “Thanks, Nick. I will, um, just…”
“How about I get you a vase, and then we can get going?” I supplied. She smiled and nodded.
