Chapter 24
My mind was running in a million different directions at once, but my feet stayed glued to the spot in the park. Zee, my girlfriend, the woman I loved, was a wolf, and she was now licking my hand. I don’t know HOW I knew it was her, I just did.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?” I asked. She co.cked her head to the side as if to say *I’m in wolf form. I can’t talk to you, stupid.* I shook my head and smiled. “You’re a werewolf.” More head tilting from the wolf in front of me, saying *No SHIIT Sherlock.* I pet her head and she leaned into me. “Come on. We’re going back to the house.” She pulled away from me and shook her head. “I don’t get it. I love you, and whether you’re a girl or a wolf, I’m still gonna love you. True, it’s a little odd, with you in wolf form right now. But I’m assuming that will pass as soon as the full moon does.” Zee nodded at me.
“She has to hunt tonight.” Nisha’s voice startled the hell out of me. I grabbed my chest as soon as I saw her, trying to convince my heart to slow down to a beat that would allow me to keep living.
“Dam.n woman. Can you NOT sneak up on me next time?” She shrugged. “So, this is her big secret? Why didn’t she just tell me? And what do you mean she has to hunt tonight?”
“The hunting…it’s a wolf thing.” Nisha said. I looked at Zee who nodded. “She didn’t tell you because she was scared you would reject her wolf half. I tried to tell her you wouldn’t, that I knew you would love her no matter what, but she was afraid. She didn’t think she could handle taking that kind of risk. But now that you know, Zee can turn you.” Zee barked sharply and growled at Nisha. Nisha gave Zee a look of annoyance. “Don’t think for one second I am afraid of you, little girl. I am sick and tired of you two pus.sy-footing around. Nick loves you, you love him. He had been begging me to turn him into a vampire before you came along. I know he would love to share this part of your life with you.” Zee looked back and forth between Nisha and I.
“She’s right.” I supplied. “I do love you. And I did want to be a vampire. Being a werewolf would mean so much more to me because it would be something we could share.” I crouched to my knees and Zee came closer and nuzzled my face.
“See, Zee. He’s cool with it. Like I told you he would be. Now, I am gonna take Elvis home, and you two can work things out.” Dam.n I had completely forgotten about my dog. Nisha walked over and grabbed his leash. Elvis jumped up and followed along behind her. She stopped next to Zee and I and whispered something in Zee’s furry ear. Then she and Elvis left.
