CHAPTER 2
Alexis’ POV
I can’t believe I’m on a plane back to LA. Things didn’t really go that well that last time I was here. Though it was actually a fun trip, being able to spend time with Kerry and Kellie, I just totally wasn’t expecting Nick to break up with me on my last night.
Kellie and I were in LA again to visit mom. Of course, I was very excited to see Nick too, but little did I know that I’d only be seeing him on my last night. He was unusually quiet during dinner and then would just give me a faint smile every now and then, he didn’t even bother to ask me how my week in LA went and why he didn’t show up until the last minute.
He finally dropped me off at Kerry’s house. I was expecting him to get out of his side of the car and open the door for me, like he always did, but that night his hands were on the wheel and he sat still as he looked like he was thinking of something to say.
“Lex, I’ve been thinking…” his voice trailed as he looked at me, then holding my hand and rubbing his thumb along my knuckles.
“About what?”
“I.. Uh… Honestly? This… This whole long distance thing just really isn’t working out for me…”
“What do you mean?”
“Maybe we should… take a break” he said, biting his bottom lip.
I quickly let go of his hand.
“Do you think having a long distance relationship is easy for me?” I asked him. I couldn’t believe he just said that.
“Lex, please understand, I’ve only seen you, like twice, in the past year. We don’t get to talk that much on the phone because either I have to do an interview or a show or you’re busy with school…”
“I thought we both agreed that this was just a phase? And we agreed that we don’t HAVE to call each other everyday, that a text or an e-mail was fine…” I tried to reason out, I still couldn’t believe that this was happening.
“Lexi, it’s just really hard… I’m sorry” he said as he tried to reach for my hand again.
“Don’t touch me” I said angrily, “You’re… You’re giving up on us” I choked out.
“Lexi, please, you know I hate it when you cry…” he said as he tried to reach out for me again.
I placed my arms across my chest, avoiding his grasp, and just looked straight ahead.
“You know what? I’m just so hurt and angry right now. I can’t believe this Nick! And you know what, at least I made an effort to see you. These two times that we saw each other this year, I was the one who went to LA.” I told him coldly.
He sighed before answering, “I know, I’m sorry. But look Lex, seriously, think about it… We’re only 17… Maybe we’re a little too young to get so… you know, serious. Maybe we should start seeing other people...”
I couldn’t believe what he was saying.
“Is there another girl?”
“WHAT?! No, of course not! Lex, believe me, there is no other girl!”
Somehow I found it hard to believe
“You know what? You want a break? Fine, I’ll give you your break!”
I quickly released my seat belt and got out of the car, wiping my tears as I stormed my way into Kerry’s house.
I have never been so angry and miserable at the same time as that night. I have to admit that I still think of Nick sometimes. I heard he dated that Debby girl from The Suite Life on Deck. After Miley, Selena, and okay, myself included, you’d think that he’d lay off Disney girls. After that Debby chick, I just chose to ignore all those rumors I heard about him. The only updates I got were from Kerry, letting me know if he was single or not, even though I didn’t ask, she knew that I secretly wanted to know.
Sure, it has been four years since the break up, but you have to understand that Nick was my first love. He was the first boy to take me out on a date, my first kiss, the first boy who ever told me that he loved me… Or at least I think he did. And sure, I went out on dates, even got into a relationship with Ryan, a guy I met in college. We were together for a couple of months, and he was really a great guy, but I just didn’t love him as much as he loved me I guess. But we’re still friends, unlike a certain curly haired ex of mine.
My thoughts were cut off by the flight attendant announcing that we had landed.
“Lexers!”
“Lexi!” I heard Kerry and Kellie yell as I got outside the airport. Kevin, Kerry and Kellie were already outside waiting for me. Kellie’s flight had arrived an hour before mine.
“Mom! Kells! Kevin!” I shouted back as I gave each of them a hug.
“So, Kevin and I were thinking, how about we invite everyone else over to our place for just a small get together?” Kerry asked as Kevin loaded my suitcases inside the trunk.
I looked at Kellie who was biting her bottom lip, just as I was.
“Everyone?” I asked Kerry.
“Well, it wouldn’t be right if everyone was there and they weren’t… Right?” Kerry told us.
Kellie sighed, “Mom’s right Lex. We have to face them eventually” she said as she patted my shoulder.
Well, at least Kellie and I would get through this together.
Kevin parked the van in the driveway of their apartment. When we got inside, Kerry led me and Kells to our rooms so we could settle in. Georgina was actually planning on getting a hotel room for me and Kellie but Kerry told her that she was more than willing to let us stay with her. Of course, Kellie and I were looking forward to it too, since it would just be like old times, only difference now was that mom and dad were living together haha.
I was unpacking some stuff when Kellie walked inside my room.
“Hey Lex” she said as she sat down on my bed.
“Hi Kells. What’s up?” I asked her as I placed some of my clothes in the dresser.
“You ready for tonight?” she asked me.
“Honestly?” I sighed, “No”
“Yeah, me too…” she crossed her legs under her as I sat down next to her, “I mean, it’s been over four years, and I think I’ve moved on, but I just don’t know how I’m supposed to react when I see him” she admitted.
“I know what you mean. It’s like, I’ve-gotten-over-the-fact-that-you-hurt-me-but-I’m-still-not-ready-to-see-you-face-to-face” I said as I tried to explain what I was feeling.
“Exactly!” she said, “But you know what, even though I’ll be seeing… him… I’m really excited that I get to live with you and mom again!” she said with a smile on her face as she gave me a hug.
“Me too! And you know what’s funny… Now we live with dad too!” I told her as we laughed while we continued hugging.
“Heeey, how come I’m not part of that hug?” Kerry said as she entered my room and hopped on the bed.
“Mooooom!” Kellie and I yelled as we both hugged her.
We were all giggling as we kept on hugging each other.
Just then we heard Kevin cough from the doorway.
“So, I have… Ok, I don’t know if it’s good news or bad news, so I’ll just say that I have news” he rambled.
“Haha ok honey, what is it?” Kerry asked.
“Oooh honey” Kellie teased making us erupt in giggles again as Kevin chuckled and shook his head at us.
“Haha you don’t act like a bunch of people in their 20s” he laughed, then he cleared his throat, “So anyway as I was saying… Well, I just got off the phone with everyone… Matt and Krista can make it, so can Eric and Jake… But as for my two brothers… Well, um, they can’t” he said.
“Oh” Kerry said, with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
“Well, that’s okay” Kellie said, looking at me as she said it.
“Yeah, we’ll see them on Monday anyway” I said, giving them a fake smile.
Truth be told, even though I wasn’t ready to see him or talk to him, part of me was kind of hoping that he would be there tonight.
Looks like Kellie and I would have to wait until Monday.
