For the loverly Lorena
Chapter 5:
Kevin closed the door behind him quietly, trying not to disturb anyone who might be sleeping…which was hopefully everyone.
“Wow. I didn’t know it would take you THIS long to buy a pair of pants.” Nisha said, flipping on the overhead lights.
“Geez, Nisha. I thought everyone was sleeping.” Kevin groaned and shielded his eyes from the sudden brightness in the room.
“It that why you’re sneaking around?” She paused. “You forget I’m a vampire. I don’t usually sleep at night.” She took notice of the fact that he had no shopping bags, no new pants, nothing in his arms to indicate he'd gone shopping as he'd said. She didn't bring this to his attention, though.
“Ok, well I do. So I’m going to bed.” He pushed past her and walked to his room.
He knew his brothers and their girls didn’t approve of Mona. They’d let him know that AND that they believed she was some kind of siren. Well, they were wrong. He just knew it.
He crawled into his bed without bothering to change into his pajamas. He fell asleep almost instantly.
I’m falling. But not the scary, sudden drop kind of falling. Floating—yeah, I’m floating.
After a few moments, I feel the ground beneath my feet. I open my eyes and I am alone in a room. Immediately I know I am in a cabin. How I know this, I’m not quite sure. I just do.
*Kevin* I don’t hear the voice with my ears, but it seems to echo in my brain. It is a beautiful sound, almost as if it is being sung to me.
The door blows open and the voice's owner is standing before me. Again, I am not sure how I know this, but I do. She is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. She looks like a porcelain doll, her features are just so perfect.
*Kevin* She is dressed in a dark cloak, but it has been pushed back from her face.
I open my mouth to speak, but she smiles and shakes her head.
*This is a dream. There is no need for words to be vocalized. Here, all you need to do is think, and feel, and believe.* I reach out to touch her face but she disappears.
Kevin reached over and slammed his fist down on his alarm clock. He couldn’t recall setting the stupid thing. He sat up and wiped the sleep from his eyes. A strange combination of intrigue and guilt settled over him as he readied himself for a new day.
