Alrighty ladies...
Chapter 6A
Kevin twirled the noodles around his fork and then looked up at Mona. She beamed at him and he smiled.
“Oh, man.” She said, and closed her eyes.
“What?” Kevin asked, alarmed.
“Do you know what your smile does to me? It makes my insides all gushy.” She opened her eyes and smiled, slightly embarrassed by her admission. “I’m sorry. That was corny, wasn’t it?”
“No, actually, I was thinking the same thing about your smile.” He set down his fork and reached across the table, taking her hand in his. “Mona, I know we’ve only known each other a few weeks, but um…I was wondering, would you want to be my girlfriend?” Kevin’s grin grew when he saw the blush rising on her cheeks.
“I would love to, only…” her voice trailed off.
“Only what?”
“Only, why me? I mean, I’m nothing special. You’re a rock star and you could be with any girl you want. Why me?” She looked puzzled, and he frowned, rubbing small circles on her hand with his thumb.
“Because, for the first time, in a really long time, I feel like I’ve finally found the one person I can truly be myself with. Not just the rock star me. And yeah, maybe Joe and Nick don’t think we…”
“Wait. Your brothers don’t like me being with you?” She interrupted him.
“Well, they kinda think…”
“Kevin, I can’t come between you and your brothers. They are your family. I’m just some random person. Maybe I should just go…” She started to pull her hand away from his, but he held it firm.
“No. They just don’t know you. And anyway, I don’t care. This is my life, not theirs. I like you, and I want to be with you. So, please, don’t go.” She relaxed, and smiled.
“I like you, and I want to be with you too. But I just feel really bad that I’m making waves for you with your brothers.”
“Don’t feel bad. They just need to learn to be happy for me, when I’ve found something good.”
“You are such a sweet-talker, Kevin Jonas.” He grinned, and the two of them finished their dinner.
