Chapter 12
“Joe!” Nick screamed, falling to his knees, his body wracked with pain. Zee was mentally transferring some of her pain to Nick, and it was all he could do, not to vomit because of the instant, intense pain. Joe ran to his younger brother. “I—I don’t…”
“Mona…she hurt Zee.” Finally, Zee closed off the connection and Nick gave a heavy sigh. “Nisha said to tell you Zee is sorry for that. She didn’t know she was connected to you like that.”
“What is going on?”
“They are on their way to join us. Nisha says she’ll explain everything as soon as they get here.” Nick nodded.
“Please, explain.” Nick hissed at Nisha. They were in Joe’s hotel room, Zee curled up in one of the two twin beds, still trying to heal herself. “Tell me what happened, then explain how I felt it.” He sat down next to his girlfriend, who was still in wolf form, and gently stroked her fuzzy face.
“I only know so much, Nick.” Nisha said. “Zee, Pari and I tracked down Mona to a river. Pari had Kevin in a dream, so that left Zee and I to fight Mona. Mona was partially in her siren form when we attacked. Then, I guess when she realized she was losing, she finished transforming. She flew off. I was able to let go, but Zee…Mona took her up with her. She had a really bad fall. At least ten feet.”
“I’m gonna kill that bit.ch.” Nick said, as Zee stirred slightly. He cringed, thinking he woke her up, but she quickly nuzzled further into the pillow and was out again. “But, I still don’t understand. I get you and Joe have a mental connection. But Zee and I…we’ve never had something like that. At least, I don’t think we have.”
“I don’t really know how it happened. The intensity of everything must have opened some sort of connection between the two of you.”
“So, I will know what she’s thinking?”
“I don’t think so. I think it’s more of empathy. You feel what she feels. Be it physical feelings or emotional feelings.” Nick nodded. Finally, Pari spoke up.
“We have to end this. We can’t keep pus.sy-footing around. Mona knows we are closing in on her. She’s going to up her game unless we take her out.”
“Zee’s not going anywhere.” Nick protested.
“I agree.”
“So, then it’s you and me.” Nisha said.
“No. I will pull Mona to a place where only she and I can battle. A place where I have the home-field advantage.”
“You mean…”
“I’m gonna battle her in Kevin’s dream.”
