Well, hello there! Soooo, I know i'm long overdue for an update on my ff, but i just had to post this one-shot. I've had this idea and a few others in my head for the past few days, so expect lots more to come! Anyhoo, i hope you guys like this, especially Nisha, and i would love your comments on it. :D

Masquerade

“So, I’m thinking maybe a black and white theme?” Lisa thought aloud, as she and Nisha walked down the busy streets of Manhattan. “Black and white?” Nisha laughed, “This time last week, you said it was going to be a rave party.” “And I was kidding!” Lisa shouted back with a grin, “You know that my dad would kill me if that happened. After all, he is paying for it.” “Aah, yes, the privileges of being… privileged,” Nisha said playfully. “Hey, I don’t have a problem with it,” Lisa said cheekily. They were quiet for a moment as they sipped their hot chocolates.

“Okay, I’ve got it!” Lisa said finally, “A masquerade ball!” “Oh no,” Nisha shook her head. “Oh yes,” Lisa smiled back, “Aw, come on. It’s genius!” “It’s just a fancy word for a dress-up party,” Nisha said. “Exactly. What girl doesn’t like dressing up in a long flowy gown, but at this party, you can do whatever you want and not be afraid. Because no-one knows who you are!” Lisa exclaimed. “There are a million things wrong with that sentence,” Nisha replied. “Well, although you are my best friend and I value your opinion very highly, there is nothing that is going to change my mind about this,” Lisa said with a certain tone. Nisha sighed. “I won’t have anything to wear,” she said. “I can help you pick something out,” Lisa smiled. Lisa herself was wearing a white tank top, dark blue skinny jeans, a black cardigan and black ankle boots. Standing next to her made Nisha feel very dressed down, as she was wearing her favourite True Religion jeans, a purple top and Converse.

“A dress that you would wear to a masquerade ball would cost me a year’s allowance,” Nisha informed her. “So I’ll pay,” Lisa shrugged. “Lisa, it’s your birthday, I’m the one supposed to be getting you something,” Nisha said. “I don’t mind. It’s another privilege to being privileged,” Lisa winked, “Now it’s time to go shopping!” “But-“ “No buts,” Lisa cut her off, “This going to be a party we’ll never forget.”

-

“Who is Lisa Munroe and why are we invited to her party?” Kevin asked from inside the tour bus. “Her father was one of the producers in La Boheme,” their mom explained, “He was a really good friend of ours and you used to hang out with Lisa all the time. So maybe you guys could go just to catch up?” “I don’t remember her,” Joe said. “Yeah, and it’s a masquerade ball Mom,” Nick muttered. “So?” she asked. “That means we have to get dressed up, wear masks… erghhh,” Nick trailed off. Joe and Kevin laughed. “Hey, why not?” Joe asked, “It’ll be fun.” “Yeah, I’m in,” Kevin shrugged. “Well, you guys can go but there is no way I am,” Nick let out a short laugh. “Well, I guess this means we have to go get something to wear, huh?” Kevin asked.

-

“We totally should have stayed at home,” Joe muttered as he and Kevin stood at the entrance to the hall. A giant chandelier hung from the ceiling and silver lights were hanging around the room. There was a classic feel to the hall, with people dancing in the middle, and refreshments to the side. There were girls in long dress everywhere, and guys in tuxedos, all wearing masks, some plain and simple and some adorned with feathers and jewels. “I don’t even know which one is the birthday girl,” Kevin said. Joe shrugged at him, but continued to walk in. They began to ask around, and soon enough found themselves face to face with Lisa Munroe.

“Ohmygosh, guys!” Lisa squealed. She hugged them both quickly. “It’s been ages,” Kevin smiled. “Yeah, it has,” Lisa agreed, “But thanks for coming anyway.” “No problem,” Joe smiled, “Although it is a bit hard to see through these masks.” “You’ll get used to it,” Lisa laughed, “Well, I’ll have to leave you guys for now. Gotta be a good hostess and mingle!” “Of course, we’ll talk to you later,” Kevin said. Once Lisa left, Kevin turned to Joe. “I’m gonna go grab something to drink,” he said. Joe nodded.

After looking around for a while, Joe began to walk but almost instantly crashed into someone. “Oof,” cried out the girl. “Oh, I’m so sorry!” Joe apologised quickly. “Hah, it’s okay. No harm done,” the girl replied, fixing her hair slightly. “So, uh, liking the party?” Joe asked after a few seconds of awkward silence. “Yeah, it’s pretty great. Not really my kind of thing though,” she laughed. “That makes two of us,” Joe smiled. She was wearing a white dress that fell just below her knees, matching her white heels and the white bow in her long wavy hair. “You look pretty,” he blurted out. She smiled. “That’s because this stupid mask is covering half my face,” she joked. Joe chuckled. “Hey, uh, wanna dance?” he asked as a slow song started to play. “Why not?” she agreed.

Joe took her hand and led her out to where various couples were dancing. He placed on hand on her waist as she placed hers on his shoulder, and intertwined their other hands together. They began to move side to side slowly. She giggled. “This isn’t how I imagined my night,” she admitted, “Dancing with a cute boy like you.” “Hey, how do you know I’m cute?” Joe asked with a smile, “You don’t know what this mask is covering.” “True, but I can just tell,” she smiled back. They continued to dance in silence.

“Tell me about yourself,” Joe said after a while. “Uhh, okay. Let’s see, how about I’m the clumsiest person ever,” she suggested. “I doubt that, since we’ve been dancing for a few minutes now and you haven’t stepped on my feet or fallen over yet,” Joe said. She laughed. “I think that the key word there is yet. Okay fine, let’s see. I absolutely love chocolate, I want to be an actress, I am the laziest person ever and I am secretly addicted to OceanUp,” she giggled. “OceanUp, huh?” Joe said as they continued to dance. “Yeah, I know that it’s just gossip, but it’s so addicting. Even though half the stuff on there isn’t true,” she said. “Yeah, I’m with you on that one,” Joe agreed. “What do you mean?” she asked. “Because I’m on there almost every day,” Joe admitted. “Wait, what?” she asked, dropping her hands. Joe lifted up his mask. “I’m Joe Jonas,” he grinned. The girl stood there shocked for a moment, before turning and walking away. “Wait, hold up!” Joe said, following her. But she soon disappeared among the crowds of people watching the couples dance. Joe let out a heavy sigh, before slipping the mask back on.

He weaved his way through all the people, searching for the girl wearing the white dress and a white bow in her hair. After a few minutes, he began to give up. He felt a tap on his shoulder so he turned around. “Is that you Joe?” “Kevin?” Joe asked. “Yeah, it is. Been enjoying yourself?” Kevin said. “Kind of,” Joe shrugged. “I saw you dancing with that girl,” Kevin said, “What happened?” “Well, I’m not sure really. It was all going so well but then when I told her who I was, she just ran off. So I lost her…” Joe trailed off. “Bad luck, huh?” Kevin sighed. “Yeah, I was really looking forward to getting to know her and everything,” Joe admitted. They were silent for a moment as the music changed to a more upbeat song.

“I’m just gonna go get something to eat,” Joe said, before walking away. He reached the table and was about to pick up a piece of food, when his hand was suddenly wrapped in another. He looked up and saw the same girl who had danced with him a few moments ago. He went to talk but she placed a finger to his lips. “Shh,” she said quietly, leading him outside the hall and into a small garden, lit with bright lights.

She sat down and he followed, still holding onto her hand. She pulled off her mask to reveal her light brown eyes that complemented her dark brown hair. "My name's Nisha," she said, as her rosy lips curved upwards into a smile as he stared at her, stunned. “And I’m sorry about before,” she apologised, “For walking away from you like that.” “It’s okay,” he said. “It just felt so weird, you know,” she laughed quietly, “I mean, I read about you and your brothers every day. And to know that I was dancing with you, but not even knowing who you were. Now that’s just crazy.” “Well, I’m sorry for surprising you like that,” Joe said softly.

“So, I guess now it’s your turn,” she said with a grin. “What?” Joe asked, confused. “I told you about myself, now it’s time for you to spill,” she explained. “Well, I doubt there’s anything I can tell you that you haven’t read on OceanUp,” he said cheekily. “Shut up,” she blushed. “Okay, well, there is one thing, I guess. There’s this girl right, and even though we just met, I feel like I want to be with her forever,” he said quietly. Nisha looked up and gazed into his eyes. “What a coincidence,” she whispered, “Because I’m in the exact same situation.” He chuckled as he leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips.

“It was great meeting you Joe,” she smiled. “You too, Nisha,” he grinned back, before he placed a hand on her cheek and pulled her closer as his lips met hers once again.
