Prologue:

 

What happens in a Walgreens is usually normal. You go in. Get what you need. And leave. But in a small town nothing weird is expected to happen. That’s why it’s such a perfect target. So what happens when 3 rock stars, a bookworm, a brat, a blond bombshell, an environmentalist, a girl who doesn’t talk and a Walgreens employee get faced with a horrible decision? Someone needs to die. But no one knows who. Not even the one with the gun.

Brittany’s POV

Oh my gosh.

This is so embarrassing!

I mean seriously am I that much of a loser?

Don’t answer that. I’m not a loser just a bookworm with an unparalleled love of reading. I mean I am the freaking Hermione Granger of Bender, Oregon except for the fact that I have no male best friends, I’m not a wizard, and I have normal teeth.

Back to the topic at hand. My mission today was given to me by my best friend, Sam. Today at lunch, our table was talking about this new movie that had come out the past weekend. 17 Again? I think that was the name of it. Anyway, all the girls started gushing about this actor, I think his name was Tack Mafron? Well when I asked who he was their jaws dropped and they stared at me like I was a mutant.

Thankfully the bell rang and I was saved from any further humiliation. Sam pulled me back down and hissed out, “Brittany, you are such an embarrassment. How about you put down your stupid books and learn about our culture. I mean everyone including my great aunt Sally knows who Zac Efron is. Come sit with us again when you know about something.”

With that said, Sam stormed away and left me stunned.

She was my only true friend and I needed to keep her. So I decided to go to the only store in town, Walgreen’s, and pick up a book about society. Plus they had these awesome bookmarks with Shakespeare quotes on them and there was a new one that came out last week.

So here I am. Standing in the front of a Walgreen’s with a trench coat on and a hat pulled down covering my dark brown hair and blue eyes, looking like a weirdo, just to buy a book and a few magazines. Oh and a bookmark.

I snuck along the chip isle to the back of the store where the chips were located. I wasn’t paying very much attention to where I was walking and ran right into someone’s shoulder.

“Ow!” I cried, grabbing my nose. It had an unfortunate encounter with a muscular shoulder and lost the fight.

“I’m so sorry! I thought you saw me,” A deep male voice called out.

His voice had me intoxicated. I looked up to see a mop of stylishly dark hair and the most beautiful eyes I have ever looked into. I snapped out of my daze when a hand stopped in front of my face.

“Here let me help you up,” the sexy voice called out again, “Are you hiding from someone? I mean it’s usually me wearing the disguises.”

I looked stupidly from his hand back to eyes before finally grabbing it like any normal person would. He hauled me back onto my feet and helped me gin my balance before pulling his hands back.

Me being me, I nodded at him in thanks, ignored his question and keep walking back to the book section. If I would have stayed longer, I would have seen sexy curly haired boy turn and give me a confused look. I finally reached my original destination and grabbed the first culture book I could find. I plopped myself onto the floor and started to read earnestly. I failed once again to notice the fifteen magazine covers with pictures of sexy boy on the front with his two younger brothers.

Reading for about five minutes, I decided this book would fit my purpose and I made my way towards the front to pay for it. I had almost reached the registers when a man walked through the door wearing a mask and…HE WAS HOLDING A GUN!
