Ch. 27
Kerry’s POV
After talking with Colleen, Chrystal and I started advertising that journalist, photographers, and editors were needed. Next came the interview process which was where we were right now.
Chrystal and I decided that we would each interview separately so I took all the journalists and she took the photographers. After we narrowed them down we would both meet all of them and go from there. We would be the editors since it was our magazine.
We had already been interviewing for a month and so far I wasn’t very impressed. This was beginning to be harder than I thought. I was happy we were doing this, but at the same time missed just being a stay at home mom…
“Mommy, can we have lunch?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah baby, I made you and Soph sandwiches. They’re in the fridge or you can warm up some dinner from last night.”
“Ok…” Kevin yelled. I heard the fridge open and close and heard the kitchen seats being moved so I assumed they were eating the sandwiches I had made them.
As the kids settled down for lunch, the doorbell rang. I looked down at my watch which told me it was ten of one. This next interviewee was ten minutes early, things were already looking up.
“Hi.” I said as I opened the door to a very cute girl. She had blonde hair that went past her shoulders with slight waves to it. She also wore make up and although it wasn’t natural it also wasn’t over the top.
“Hi!” I said as I opened the door and shook her hand.
“Hi I’m Casey; I’m here for an interview at 1…”“Hi, I’m Kerry; it’s so nice to meet you. Come in.” I said as I ushered her in
We both sat down in the den as we started the interview. So far I was very impressed. Casey went to a good school, majored in journalism, had an internship at charm this past semester, and seemed very bubbly and down to earth.
Her samples of writing were also very good as well. I was very impressed finally. Now all I had to do was check her references.
As soon as Casey left, I was excited because I had some free time since she was my only interview today. I decided I should keep working and try calling her references (one of which was someone from Charm).
I had called the first reference to see that it checked out and they raved about Casey. I was about to call the second one when my phone rang before I could call anyone.
“Hello?”
“Jen… I going hospital now! You watch Jarika.” Joe said out of breath and fast.
“Want me to come get her?” I asked.
“No coming to your house now… Jen’s having the twins!” Joe yelled.
“Do Kevin and Nick know?”
“Yeah on the way to the hospital now.”
“Want me to call anyone?” I asked.
“No thanks, see you in a few.” Joe said as he hung up.
Poor Jen would be giving birth to two babies today and had to deal with a hyperactive husband…
“Hello?”
“Hey Chrys, its Kerry.”
“Hey Kerr, what’s up?”
“So Joe’s dropping off Jarika and going to the hospital with Jen. I’m watching the kids here and we’ll make cards and stuff. Kevin and Nick are going to the hospital as well and I was wondering if you wanted to come over?” I asked.
“Sure sounds good, I’ll be over in a little bit?” Chrystal asked.
“Sounds good, see you then.”
As I hung up the phone with Chrystal, my cell phone beeped to let me know I had a text message. I opened up my phone and smiled.
I love you.
-Kevin
I smiled knowing that Kevin was always a sap and romantic, but babies just happened to make him more lovey and I knew he was super excited for Joe.
I laughed as I saw Joe hurriedly pull up to the front of my house. He quickly helped Jarika out of the car and walked her to our door. Joe was such a good father. I’m not sure what he was saying to Jarika but she was smiling and nodding with him. When they got to our door her showered with kisses, told her he loved her and ran back to the car to drive to the hospital.
Once Jarika got there I set Kevin, Sophie, and Jarika up in the kitchen with art supplies to make Jen, the babies, and Joe cards.
Once Chrystal got there Jake and Lily joined the other cousins in the kitchen.
“So what’s up?” Chrystal asked as I got some water out of the fridge as we kept watchful eyes on the kids but talked.
“So I had an interview today and I need to check on the last two references but I really like her.” I answered.
“Oh cool I had a good interview yesterday with a photographer.” Chrystal answered.
“And you have two other journalists you like from a week ago right?” Chrystal asked.
“Yeah so I was thinking next week after all the interviews are done we can do another interview with all of them so I can meet the photographers and you the journalists?” I asked.
“Sounds good.” Chrystal answered.
After the kids made the card, Chrystal and I sent them off to play while we made them dinner.
The kids slept over and Nick and Kevin stayed at the hospital. They had always been there no matter what whenever a brother had a child, and they didn’t want to break their tradition now.
Around eight the next morning, I got a call from Kevin telling me that Jen was about to have the babies. So after making breakfast, Chrystal, Jake, Lily, Jarika, K3, Sophie, and I all drove to the hospital to go see the family and welcome two new Jonases into the world.
