CHAPTER DOS;; Surprise?
“So, today when I was at the store, I like unknowingly sang Annie Lennox to a crowd of like, 30 people.”
“Oh my GOD Liri, Explain.”
“Well, I just started singing. And when I was done, some random guy comes up to me and offers me a job. I have to talk to him today, or it’s never gonna happen.”
“Oh. My. GOD, Liri! Go talk to him! GO GO GO!”
I laughed, rolling onto my bed. My bestie Jess always knew what to say. “But Jess, I can’t just go! What if he’s some crazy stalker?”
I heard her sigh on the other line. The pause told me she was taking a swig of the ever present red bull in her hands.
“How is it tonight?”
“Blech, stale. Anywhos, just GO FOR IT. If you don’t I may kill you.”
“Fine, I’ll do it. But you’re coming with. It’s only fair.”
Jess laughed. “Of course chickadee, of course.”
“Now, there’s the small problem of my dad….”
===============
“NO.”
“C’mon Dad, please?”
“No.”
“Please Please Please?”
“No.”
“Please, this may be my only chance! Plus, it’s not like he gonna sign me tonite, if at all!” I hugged Daddy with a puppy dog look on my face. When I pouted out my lip I knew I have won. He can’t stand seeing his favorite daughter sad.
“Well…”
“Yes! I knew it! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!” I started running upstairs to get ready. He grabbed me by my shirt and pulled me back down the stairs. I giggled. What? It tickles…
“Now hold up Missy, I’m coming with you. And if I find something I don’t like, we’re leaving.”
“Aww Dad, do you have to..?” I whined.
“Yes, now go get changed. We still need to pick up Jess.”
“YES! Okay, what am I going to wear?”
===============
“Hi! Welcome to Hollywood records! How may I help you today?” The lady at the desk seemed too perky for the afternoon. It was annoying. REALLY annoying.
“We’re here to see Mr. Grogan.” Dad handed the card to the lady, who pointed towards a pair of large double doors on her right.
“He’ll be waiting for you.”
“Thank you. C’mon girls, let’s see what this is about.”
I followed Dad and Jess, clutching my newly filled water bottle nervously. This is scary stuff, meeting a big time talent rep for a big label.
Mr. Grogan enthusiastically greeted my dad, who seemed pleased with the man for the moment. We sat down and he went into a lengthy explanation of label and what would happened if I was signed.
I tried listening to the conversation, but it quickly became boring and I occupied myself with the peeling of the label off of my massive water bottle. When the conversation ended, I had managed to get ¾ of the label unpeeled.
“…What do you think Liri?” Mr. Grogan finished.
I snapped out of my daydream, looking up from my mutilated bottle label. “Huh?”
My dad rolled his eyes, Jess stifled a laugh. Mr. Grogan smiled genuinely. “Would you like to try recording that song you sang today in the studio?”
I felt my eyes grow wide. “Would I? Would I?! Did you even have to ask!?”
Mr. Grogan laughed. “Okay then, give me a few minutes and I’ll get it all set up for you!”
He walked out enthusiastically and I turned to Jess. She smiled at me and squealed. “Ooo Girl you’re amazing!”
I laughed. “I guess. But I’m nervous. What if he doesn’t like me?”
“Then you wouldn’t be here in the first place. I mean, really.”
I turned to Dad, who seemed satisfied with the meeting. “So?”
He smiled at me. “This sounds like an amazing opportunity. Do what you feel, I approve of any decision.”
“Oh my gosh Dad! Daddy, did I mention I love you, A LOT?!”
He hugged me. “I never doubted it, Aliria. At all.”
I hugged dad back. “Thanks, Dad.”
“AWWWWWWW”
I glared at Jess, trying desperately not to laugh. “Jess! Way to ruin the moment!”
“You know that’s what I do. Don’t hate me cuz I’m amazazing!” She threw out a gangsta piece sign.
Mr. Grogan walked in. “Alright, come with me. It’s all been set up!”
