Happy um...going away to college, Lex! Hahaha :P As you can clearly see, I am much more creative than you when it comes to titles. Just kidding! So I hope you, and anyone else who reads this, likes it. Took my long enough. Haha xP Love you Lex!!
Anywho, let's get to the one-shot!
Tonight Is Forever
I watched the screen in front of me with tears running down my cheeks as the final pictures slid across the screen. I took a look around the room and it seemed that I wasn’t the only one who had been crying. It was our last day of high school and all of the seniors were packed into the school’s tiny auditorium to watch the “senior video.” It was basically just a good excuse to cry. We were dismissed from the auditorium and I quickly scanned the room for Kerry. Before I could even look around I was tackled into a hug from behind by my best friend.
“I’m gonna miss you!” I heard Kerry cry from behind me. I spun around and pulled her into a hug.
“We still have the whole summer, but I’m gonna miss you too!”
We walked out into the crowded hall and headed towards our lockers. I was getting my books out of my locker when I felt someone snake their arms around my waist. I smiled and spun around.
“Hi Joe,” I said giving him a quick peck on the lips. I grabbed the last of my books and shut my locker. Joe and I walked out to his car; I dumped my books in the back seat before climbing in beside him.
“I can’t believe high school is over.” I said softly.
“Oh no, I know that voice. Don’t cry Lexi, please don’t cry.” Joe said putting a hand on my cheek. I faced him and let out a small, sad laugh. “Baby,” He whined. “You know I hate seeing you sad.”
“I’m sorry, I just can’t help it.” I said as a few tears slowly slid down my cheeks. Joe wiped them away with his thumb before pressing his lips lightly to mine. We left the school parking lot without a second glance.
Two months later…
“Alexis, Joe’s here!” My dad called up the stairs. I took one last look in the mirror and smiled, I was wearing a cute sundress that I had bought a few days before and a pair of nice, white flip-flops. I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs.
“You look beautiful,” Joe said softly as my dad walked away. He leaned down and placed a kiss on my cheek before we headed out to his car. He looked absolutely adorable in khaki pants, a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up a little past his wrists, and a pair of boat shoes.
“So, where are we going?” Joe smiled at me and intertwined our fingers.
“Why do you even bother to ask?”
“I don’t know…” I said. We laughed and he brought my hand near his lips.
“You’re so cute, Rex.” Joe said before kissing the back of my hand. I scrunched my nose when he called me Rex, the nickname he had come up with for me. Not only did it rhyme with “Lex” but apparently I was tough and not afraid to show it, like a T-Rex. Then again, that Joe Jonas does have a big imagination.
We were only in the car for about ten minutes before Joe pulled up to a boat dock.
“A dock, really Joe?” I asked jokingly.
“Don’t judge me just yet,” He answered with a smirk. I rolled my eyes as Joe got out of the car and ran around to open my door for me. We walked down the dock hand in hand and finally Joe stopped in front of a beautiful boat. It wasn’t gigantic but it wasn’t too small at the same time, it was perfect.
“A boat! Joe, I love boats!”
“I know,” Joe said as he hopped aboard and held out his hand for me to take
“Milady,” He said as I placed my hand in his and stepped onto the boat. Joe showed me the cabin downstairs and I put my bag down on the table and kicked off my sandals before returning back up to the top. I saw Joe’s socks and shoes sitting by the captain’s chair and looked up to the bow to see him untying the ropes, releasing the boat from the dock. I sighed with a silly smile on my face. He just looked too cute with his shirt sleeves cuffed up to the elbows and the bottoms of his pants rolled up about an inch above his ankles.
“Ready to go, babe?” He asked carefully making his way down the side of the boat. I nodded as Joe stood behind the wheel and started pulling the boat away from the dock. I watched in amazement as he drove us through the harbor
“I didn’t know you were this good with boats, Joe.” I said walking over and standing beside him.
“You’d be surprised what else I’m good with.” He said as his eyes slowly glazed over my body from my toes to my head. My mouth fell open and I slapped him on the arm. “Ow! Jeeze Rex, I was only kidding!” I stuck my tongue out at him and plopped back down on the bench near the back of the boat.
After a good twenty minutes relaxing at the back of the boat and watching my amazing boyfriend drive us out to where ever we were going, (I wasn’t really sure…he hadn’t told me) we stopped and Joe went to lower the anchor. I truly was shocked that he could handle a boat so well. He had never told me about that.
“So what do you wanna do first? We can go swimming or we could just relax, it’s up to you.” Joe said sitting down beside me.
“I didn’t bring a bathing suit,” I said.
“Don’t worry, I came prepared.” He said nodding towards the door leading down to the cabin. “Your mom is really helpful when it comes to planning dates.” He winked. I laughed and stood up.
“Well then let’s go swimming!” Joe and I went down into the cabin and he handed me the bag that had been sitting on the front bed. I went through it and grabbed my bathing suit and a towel and headed into the tiny bathroom to change. I stepped out a minute later and Joe whirled around his mouth fell open a little bit.
“Oh…wow,” He quickly averted his gaze to the wall. I blushed I ran a hand through my hair.
“Joe, you’re much cuter when you’re not drooling.” I joked. He quickly snapped out of it and ran the back of his hand across his mouth, narrowing his eyes at me.
“Not funny,”
I laughed and walked back up to the deck while Joe changed. I was standing on the bow with my arms leaning on the railing looking out at the water. It was so peaceful with no one else around. I stiffened a bit when I felt someone place their hands on my waist.
“Sorry,” Joe whispered in my ear, “did I scare you?”
“Little bit,” I answer just as softly. He slid his hands all the way around my waist and hugged me tight against his bare chest. He nuzzled his face into my hair and I sighed. Why was it so easy for him to drive these butterflies in my stomach crazy?! Joe lifted my hair and pressed his lips lightly to the back of my neck. He left a trail of kisses from my neck down to my shoulder. What a tease. Well two can play that game, Joseph. I spun around and leaned with my back against the railing now, Joe with his arms on either side of me holding onto the rail. He was smiling as he slowly inched his face closer to mine. Once he was close enough that I could feel his breath on my cheeks I said, “Let’s go swimming!” And with that I managed to make my way quickly to the back of the boat and stood on the swim platform. I saw Joe still standing out on the bow with a shocked and hurt expression on his face. I laughed as he made his way over to where I was standing.
We swam for a while but pretty soon I think we were both tired from treading water and I was starting to get cold. Joe was quite the gentleman. He climbed back onto the boat and offered me his hand; once I was back on the boat he ran and grabbed two towels. One he quickly wrapped around his waist and the other he held out for me. He wrapped the towel around me and just held me there.
“Warm now?”
“Uh-huh,” I managed. I sat down on the bench and Joe stood in front of me.
“Baby, your lips are purple!” He said sitting beside me.
“Yeah well I said I was cold.” I laughed.
We sat and talked for a while we dried off.
“I’m gonna go get changed,” I said a little while later. I went back down to the bathroom to change back into clothes and comb my hair. I went back up to the deck to see Joe lying on the bench with his hands behind his head and his eyes closed. His towel was sitting on the captain’s chair and I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off of his body. (Haha Lex!) He must have heard me because his eyes opened and he quickly sat up and patted his lap.
“But you’re still wet!” I said walking over to him.
“What, does water bother you?” He asked shaking his hair out, splashing me with water. Joe laughed, got up and went to change.
Several hours had gone by and the sun was just beginning to set. I was seated on the bench and Joe was leaning against the side of the boat just staring out at the water. It was silent except for the frequent sound of water splashing at the side of the boat. I sat back and thought about the day Joe and I had just spent alone together. I giggled to myself when I remembered how we had been teasing each other practically all day. Joe turned around and smiled at me.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” I said still smiling. He plopped down beside me and draped an arm over my shoulders. I leaned my head on his shoulder and looked up at him. He shifted so that we were facing each other and lightly placed a hand on my cheek. Joe leaned in slowly and this time I waited. Just as I felt his lips reach mine I jumped up.
“I’m cold!” I said running down to the cabin and grabbing Joe’s sweatshirt. I curled up in a ball on the front bed and waited for Joe to come down. I had only been sitting there for a minute and suddenly reality hit me. We were leaving for college tomorrow. I remained in my ball even when Joe came down and sat at the edge of the bed.
“I hate you for that,” He joked.
“Hm,” I mumbled into the sleeves of his sweatshirt that we all too long on me.
“Lex, are you alright?” Joe asked putting a hand on my leg. I shook my head and I felt him climb all the way onto the bed and sit beside me. “What’s the matter?”
I sat up and faced him.
“We’re leaving tomorrow…” I said sadly.
“Oh baby, don’t start with this again. Can’t we just enjoy the rest of this night without thinking about that?” Joe asked.
“I’m just worried, what if no one likes me there? What if my roommate’s a bit.ch or something? What if I do really bad in all of my classes-“
“Lexi,” Joe said trying to shut me up.
“Sorry,”
“Come here,” He said holding his arms out. I crawled across the bed and sat between his legs with his arms around my waist. “You have absolutely nothing to worry about.”
“How do you know?” I protested.
“Listen to me. You’re beautiful, smart, and one of the sweetest and kindest girls I’ve ever met. Any person would be crazy not to like you. You always sell yourself short Lexi but there’s absolutely no reason to. You just don’t understand, I feel so lucky to be able to call you my girl.” I quickly spun around and stared into his eyes. How the heck was I supposed to respond to that?! I cupped his face and quickly close the gap between us. Joe wrapped his arms around me and flipped us over so that he now had me pinned to the bed. He moaned against my lips and I felt my stomach drop as he kissed me deeper and more urgently. We spent the next few minutes catching up on what we had missed out on all day. And no one was complaining here.
We pulled away minutes later, lips red and swollen. We both had huge smiles on our faces and Joe was staring down at me.
“I love you,” He said leaning down to leave a quick peck on my lips. “I love you so much,”
“I love you too Joe,”
A little while later we were sitting out on the deck again cuddled together in one of the seats just enjoying the peacefulness. My head was resting on Joe’s chest and his arms were protectively wrapped around me.
“Thanks,” I said softly.
“For what, baby?”
“For everything, for tonight, for those things you said to me, just…thank you. I feel lucky to be able to call you mine also.”
“You’re welcome,” He said placing a small kiss on my head.
We sat in silence for a few minutes more.
“I wish we could stay like this forever…” I whispered.
“Then let’s pretend. Let’s just pretend that tonight is forever.”
