Crystal had the next day off and the first half of it was spent trying to help her room mate nurse her hangover. She tried to get Stacy to tell her why she had been crying the night before, but Stacy didn’t really remember and what she did remember, made very little sense to Crystal.
By the time one o’clock came around, the two girls were hungry and because neither of them had had that chance to go grocery shopping, there was no food in the house. Stacy’s hangover was better so instead of ordering take out, they decided to visit their favorite nearby restaurant, Eddie’s. Both girls had worked there when they first came to the city and it was where they met, so no matter what, that little place was going to remain a favorite amongst them.
When they arrived, the owner, Eddie greeted them. “Girls! How have you been? I haven’t seen you in here in a while,” the robust, salt and pepper haired man said, giving each girl a hug. “I’ve missed you around here.”
Stacy and Crystal looked at the older man and smiled. “We’ve missed coming around here, Eddie,” Stacy said.
“Yeah, but we’ve been busy. I suppose you should be thankful that neither of us had the time to do any grocery shopping this week,” Crystal said.
Eddie laughed and led the pair of girls over to the best seat in the house, a little corner booth right next to the window. “I am most definitely grateful that you two have been so busy, and I’m sure forgetful. You want your usual?” he asked before leaving for the kitchen upon seeing both girls nod to his question.
“He knows us way too well,” Stacy said.
“Well what do you expect? We practically lived here for our first couple of months here. I’d honestly be more surprised if he didn’t know us so well,” Crystal said, smiling at the waitress that brought over their drinks. As she unwrapped her straw and flicked the wrapper at Stacy after having Stacy’s wrapper flung at her, Crystal looked out the window. She enjoyed people watching most days, and today seemed to be one of those days.
Until Stacy interrupted by pointing out one of the people outside of the corner restaurant. “Hey isn’t that one of the guys you were talking to last night?”
Crystal looked to where Stacy was pointing and quickly turned her attention away from the window. “Crap. I so hope he didn’t see me,” Crystal whispered.
Stacy went from looking to the blond guy outside to her room mate. “Who is he?”
“You remember the stories I told you about my ex, Kyle?” After seeing Stacy nod, Crystal continued, “Well, that would be him.”
Stacy’s eyes widened in shock and her attention went back out the window. “Really? He’s a babe,” she said, turning her attention back to Crystal, seeing her shake her head. “And you’ll be happy to know that he’s gone,” Stacy continued.
Crystal looked out the window to check for herself and felt her body relax as she saw that he was gone. The pair sat in silence for a minute before Stacy broke it.
“He was one of the guys you were talking to last night, right? Or is that part of my memory from last night as fuzzy as the rest of it?”
Crystal turned her attention back to her room mate but waited to answer seeing as the waitress was setting their food down before them. As she cut up some of her French toast into bite size pieces, she answered the question that was posed for her. “No, that part of your memory isn’t fuzzy. He was one of the guys I was talking to.”
Stacy finished chewing and swallowed as Crystal took her first bite. “Okay, so then he was the guy that you didn’t look too happy to see,” Crystal nodded and Stacy continued, “Then who was the other guy? The one with curly hair that ‘rescued’ you, I guess you could say?”
Crystal took a quick drink of her Mountain Dew then opened her mouth to answer. “That would have been Kevin.”
Stacy’s eyes widened and she had to take a quick drink of her own beverage to try and stop herself from choking. After swallowing, she leaned closer to Crystal over the table and whispered, knowing that neither one of them wanted anybody else in the restaurant to hear the last name she was about to use. “You mean, that was Kevin Jonas?” she whisper-yelled. At Crystal’s nod, Stacy sat there with her mouth open for close to a minute. “Well, he’s a babe too. What was he doing there though? I mean, didn’t you say him and his brothers had a couple weeks of shows out on the west coast before their next tour or something?”
“Yes, I did say that because that’s what I thought. But apparently, they have some time off and decided to come to the city. They evidently have an important meeting today, though I don’t know what for,” Crystal responded.
“Huh. I guess he was true to his word when he said that he would try to hang out with you the next time they were in town.”
Crystal had forgotten all about that, though she wasn’t sure how. It’s not like she had forgotten anything else about him. “I guess you’re right,” she said before taking another bite.
The rest of their breakfast was spent in moderate silence with small talk interrupting every once in a while. As the pair was just finishing up and Stacy was going to pay the bill, Crystal’s cell phone rang. Pulling it out of her purse, she checked the caller I.D. and saw that it was Brian calling.
“Hello,” she answered, wondering what Brian could possibly want.
“Hi Crystal. I’m calling to ask you if you could come in tomorrow around 10 even though you have the day off. I have something I want to talk to you about,” she heard come from the other end of the phone.
“Um, yeah, sure I can come in,” she told him, still confused.
“Good. I’ll see you tomorrow at ten then,” he said. They exchanged goodbyes and both hung up. Crystal could only wonder what he could possibly want to talk to her about the next day, but as Stacy came back and the two of them resumed with their girls’ day, she figured that whatever it was could most definitely wait until tomorrow.
