Chapter 29
“Please don’t tell me you did what I thought you did,” Ashley said.
She still had her eyes closed and her grip on Joe’s hand was tighter than ever.
“I, uh, don’t think so,” Joe said hesitantly. Ashley wasn’t fully convinced yet. She just knew that the worst had happened for some reason.
“Well, go check! I would but, I don’t want to see that poor thing if it’s hit and suffering,” Ashley explained with a frown coming to her face.
“I don’t want to either and I couldn’t go check even if I wanted to,” Joe returned. Ashley looked at him confused.
“Does it, bother you that badly?” Ashley asked, cutting down on her tone. She seemed to ask him in a more caring sort of way, almost in a whisper.
Joe smiled at her. “Thanks for the concern but, it’s just you have a death grip on my hand. That’s why.”
Ashley’s eyes widened and she slowly let go of his hand while smiling. By the way Joe looked at her he knew she was embarrassed.
“Sorry about that,” she said. She looked at him straight in the eyes and then glanced away. Looking him in those beautiful eyes could melt any girl.
“No problem, I would have done the same thing. I’ll be right back,” he responded. He got out of the car and crept around the front, almost like he was scared to see what would happen. Ashley watched his face to see if it was what she thought. Joe looked everywhere and even got down on his hands and knees to see if the dog was underneath the car. He came around to the passenger side and Ashley rolled down the window.
“So?”
“He’s not here,” Joe said, “he must have made it through.”
Ashley smiled, “Yep, because he’s right there Joe!”
I know it's short but the next part is much longer. I'll post it on Wednesday. It would be earlier but I have an essay to write by Wednesday and I'm a procrastinator. :D Comments are quite lovely. :D:D:D
