Em’s POV
I woke up the next morning to the sound of a car alarm going off somewhere in the neighborhood. I sat up, looking out the small window by my bed. I groan, it was still dark out. Looking over at the clock, I could tell it was around 6 in the morning. Earlier than I wanted to be up, but there wasn’t much point in going back to bed. I would just have to get up again in an hour anyway.
I crawled out of bed, and stuck my head out of my room. Tony was already up, sitting at the kitchen table. I walked out, smiling at her as I slid into the chair across the table.
“What time do you get off work today?” I asked, taking the piece of cold pizza she handed me.
“6, same as ever.” She said looking up at me curiously.
“If I stopped by the store after school do you think you could give me some money so I can get food.” I asked picking at my pizza.
Tony side. “Crap, we need food don’t we.” She chuckled, and nodded. “Ya, swing by at about four. I’ll see if I can get my check early.”
We finished eating in silence. I left to take a quick shower and got dressed. I threw on a t-shirt, ripped jeans and some tattered converse, before running a brush threw my short hair. I didn’t bother with make-up, I wasn’t trying to impress anybody. I grabbed my school bag and walked out of the room.
“Glasses,” Tony said, glancing up from the paper she was reading. I groan and rolled my eyes, before walking back into my room to find my glasses. I hated to wear them and ‘forgot’ them as often as I could. I would have gotten contacts, but it was way to much money. Seeing as we could barely make rent.
I still had 15 minutes before I had to leave for school, so I pulled out my french book and attempted to study. That lasted all of 3 minutes. I ended up starring off into space wondering if it was possible for your brain to actually explode if you tried to cram to much into it. So I decided to head to school early. Normally, I would have talked Tony into driving me but she seemed a little distracted this morning, so I walked instead.
We didn’t live that far from the school, so I got there with about 5 minutes to spare. I shoved my stuff into my locker and head off to my first class, already counting the seconds until I could leave. I walked around a conner and walked smack into somebody, sending both of us crashing to the ground. I looked over to see a boy my age lying on the ground next to me, holding his head. He had longish brown hair and brown eyes.
“Sorry,” I muttered under my breath, trying to look insignificant. This was obviously a new kid, i’d never seen him before.
To my surprise the boy laughed. “Nothing to be sorry about. I’m just to stupid to watch where I’m going.”
I gave a weak smile and started to walk away. Most people would have just kept going with there lives, but not this kid, he felt the need to fallow me.
“I’m Joe.” He said, easily keeping up with my brisk pace.
I gave him a weird look. “Okay.”
Again, he laughed for some reason. “The normal response is something like ‘Nice to met you Joe, I’m Lucy.’”
“My name’s not Lucy.” I said, turning a conner, trying to get ride of this guy.
“Well, then. What is it? Cause if you don’t tell me, I’m gonna keep calling you Lucy.”
I stopped short, causing Joe, to crash into me. Again. This time we both stayed on our feet. “Why do you care what my name is?” I asked, knowing I sounded hostile.
“Cause I do.” He said, smirking and leaning up against the wall, arms folded over his chest.
“If I tell you, will you leave me alone.” I asked, getting frustrated.
“No, I’ll just keep calling you Lucy if you don't.” He said, his eyes sparking with laughter.
I rolled my eyes and kept walking. He ran to catch up. “So, where’s you next class, Lucy?”
I groaned. “My name’s Em, alright!” I said, before making another sharp turn. Amazingly, Joe stayed in step with me.
“See that didn’t kill you.” He said, grinning now. No, but putting up with you might. I though, take the final turn into my french class.
“Bye, Em.” Joe called, smirking and walking off. I rolled my eyes and sunk down into my chair. Like I said, I have social problems. This was going to be a very long day.
