Chapter 1
[[ the Return ]]
“So how was New York?” my mom asked, when she picked me up from the airport.
“AMAZING!” I said. “Thank you so much for letting me go,”
I was just getting back from 2 weeks in New York. I was working on a movie and had to go to New York, to film the end of it.
The car ride back was filled with my mom asking me about every little detail about my time away. I told her about the sight seeing, the food, and most importantly, the SHOPPING.
When we pulled onto our street I yelled, “STOP THE CAR!”
She stopped it right in front of my best friends’ house and I hopped out.
“Be back for dinner!” she called after me, but I was long gone.
I ran up to the door and swung it open without knocking, I mean I practically lived there. Once the door was opened I screamed “I’M BACK!!!” into the house.
“KATE!” Joe said, rushing down the stairs. He ran towards me so fast and tackled me onto the ground.
“Hey Joe!” I said.
We both got up and he wrapped me up in a warm hug.
“Come on, Lets go find Kev,” Joe said, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the music room.
As always, Kevin was jamming on his guitar and as always he sounded amazing.
“You sound awesome,” I said, catching him off guard.
“Kate!!!!!” he said, putting his guitar down and coming over to hug me.
“Where’s Nick?” I asked once he released me.
“Oh, he’s out back with-.” but before Kevin could finish I was sprinting towards the back door.
“This will be interesting…” Joe said. “Let’s go watch.”
I ran out the back door to find Nick sitting on a bench with a blonde girl in his
arms. The two were in a major lip lock and they didn’t seem to have noticed me. Seeing how awkward it would be if I walked up to Nick to say hi at this point, I tried to turn around and go back inside, but it wasn’t that easy.
The door slammed behind me hen I came out and the two broke apart and looked around to see what made that noise.
“KATE!” Nick said, standing up. “What’s up?”
“Uh, nothing really. I just got back. Who’s the chick?” I asked, not meaning to sound rude, but she must have taken it that way.
The blonde girl, who resembled a Barbie doll, stood up and grabbed Nick’s hand, then said, “I’m Nick’s girlfriend, Stacy. And you are?”
“I’m his best friend,” I said with a small smile. But inside I was unable to believe that I went away for 2 weeks and I come back and Nick has a girlfriend.
Me and Nick had been best friends since 6th grade, when I was the only girl who tried out for the flag football team. And he was the only guy that would pass me the ball. Together we ended up making 4 touchdowns.
“So anyway Nick,” I continued, shaking off the feeling of unwantedness, “What are you doing later? I was thinking maybe we could go see a movie.”
“Um actually we’re hanging out later,” Stacy cut in.
“Okay, well call me when you’re free,” I said, and Nick nodded. With that, I went back inside.
