Caught In A Daze
This is the first chapter, and the only one that won’t be done as a video blog thing. Hope you all like it.
Prologue: Devastation
The wind whipped tightly across my face, I shuttered and pulled my jacket closer. Water hit my face harshly. I couldn’t decipher if it was the tears or the rain that hurt more. I heard a crackle and turned to see a tree splintered in half behind me. I gasped and started running. I heard a bang, and looked in front of me, a car burst into flames.
I looked at it, as if I knew whose it was. I saw the back window, it had the word SENIORS, written across it. The car was a white Grand Prix; I knew whose car it was. My best guy friend was now dead. The tears flowed down my face. This was the worst night of my life. First, my boyfriend of four years is cheating on me, with my best friend.
Then as I’m running back to my house, the weather changes drastically. Now my guy best friend is dead, and I saw how it happened. I had to keep going though, the weather was bound to get worse, and I wanted to live. I was running past my last best friend I considered “Living” house, when I tripped over some large. As I fell I looked to see what I tripped over, it was the body of my best friend’s mother. I hit the ground in mid-faint.
When I awoke, I looked up to see a clear blue sky. I looked around me, to see I was lying on a couch. I looked around to see my friend Lea standing there. She was sobbing, I groaned as I turned to look at her. I felt like I had been run over by a truck. She turned and looked at me before rushing over. She handed me a water bottle, and opened it for me. I quickly chugged it down, I didn’t realize how thirsty I had been.
“Oh Rayne, it’s so horrible. My mom’s dead, my dad’s alive, he was out of state. Oh Rain, I’m so, so sorry. Your parents they didn’t make it, they, their gone. Oh Rain I feel so bad. Here I am complaining about my mom dying, but at least I still have a father. Oh that was the wrong thing to say wasn’t it. I’m so sorry, Rain please forgive me,” She informed me horridly.
This can’t be true, they can’t both be gone. I lost my boy friend and one best friend to cheating, then another in a car accident, and now my parents, by an apparent tornado. There is nothing left for me. Except Lea, but she has her dad. Who do I have no one, not really, I mean I know I have family out there somewhere, but I don’t know them.
“Do you have any place to go? I’d offer you to stay with me, but I don’t have a home,” Lea asked. I sighed and nodded, I had an aunt whom lived in New Jersey. I never met her, my father and she got into an argument before I was born and our family never talked to theirs since.
“Yeah, I have an aunt; her family is the only living relatives that I know about, that are alive. I have no way of contacting her though, I mean there’s no phone, plus she’s all the way in New Jersey,” I replied.
She looked at me and handed me her cell phone, I looked at it and raised an eyebrow. “It works, I’ve already called my dad,” she updated me. I nodded and hit the buttons to get to the operator.
“Operator,” some lady said annoyed.
“Yes, I need the phone number of Emilia Marks of Trenton, New Jersey please?” I asked politely, ugh, I hated doing this I felt so stupid.
“Her number is 789-782-2734 (Totally random numbers, Haha, I like how seven is there three times),” the lady said before hanging up. How rude, seriously I try to be nice, but I get rudeness, ugh. I sighed anyways and dialed the number that was given to me.
“Hello,” A guy’s voice yelled through the phone. Ouch, seriously, are they having a party or something, ‘because the music was really loud in the background.
“Yes is Emilia Marks there?” I asked him. The music quieted down.
“Who’s this?” He asked, it sounded a little rude, but I don’t know if it was meant that way or not.
“This is Rayne Marks, Mrs. Marks is my aunt,” I replied coldly. I heard him yell, mom. Ugh, great as if my headache wasn’t bad already. I looked at Lea, and motioned that I had a headache, she started searching for some Motrin.
“Emilia Marks speaking,” said apparently Emilia. She sounded like she was on a business call. She sounded nothing like my father, well that would be apparent since they are different genders. But the tone was completely different, my dad had this “let’s have fun all the time” tone to his voice, this lady had “I have two or more children, I’m a working business lady, and I have no time for charity cases” tone to her voice.
“Mrs. Marks, my name is Rayne Marks. I’m your brother, Daniel’s, daughter. I know you and my father had an outing over sixteen years ago, but I needed to call and inform you of something. You see the town I live in just got hit was a fierce tornado. My parents which includes your brother were killed in the tornado. I thought you should know,” I informed her.
“Are you alright, do you have any place to go. Oh you could come hear, I’m sure my children won’t mind. I’ll fly out there and pick you up. We can plan a funeral when I get there, how does that sound,” she replied quickly. Wow, her tone changed in like two seconds flat.
“Umm, no I really don’t have any place to go. I’ll find a place though, I don’t want to impose on your family,” I uttered with a fake innocent tone to my voice. But on my face was a huge smirk.
“Oh no dear, I won’t have that. I will fly out soon. You still live in Michigan correct?” She asked. I heard a smash in the back ground, and then a yell of “NOAH!”
I laughed; this was going to be one crazy family I would be living with. I wonder what it will be like to live with people my age again. Ever since my older sister Danielle died when I was seven, I’ve grown up like an only child.
One thought popped into my mind, as I made the arrangements with my aunt, were my Jonas Brothers CD’s all right. I twirled my purity ring around my finger. Everything seemed to be turning out alright, when everything went bad.
