Hey guys, this is a one-shot that I wrote. Uhm, if any of my readers from 'Hey Unloving' reads this, I honestly do not know when the next chapter will be up. It wasn't really written for any certain person, so therefore it could be about whoever you wanted it to be. Enjoy, and please, tell me what you honestly think.
Holiday
‘When I was younger I used to be wild
As wild as an elephant’s child
No one could hold me down
No one could keep me around
Now it’s your turn, take a shot
Baby, show me everything that you got
Maybe you can keep me alive
Maybe you can get in my mind
But it’s only a matter of time’
Evelyn Faith Dawson sat on her bed, her bare bed and thought about the last 6 months. She had been new to Los Angeles, which was the sole purpose that she was there. She was a wild child; she always rebelled against things she didn’t agree with. She partied too hard sometimes, but that was a part of her. Once people start to like her and try to become friends with her, she took off, going to a new place, a place she’d never been, where no one would know her. But this time around, there was a flaw in her plan. She met a handsome stranger who took her in. They became an item, and Evelyn thought that maybe this time, she would stay for good, she wouldn’t feel the need to run. And then her insecurities kicked in, and she needed to go.
‘Before I run, far away
I need to take a holiday
Maybe it’s a fall from grace
I got to find a new place
A holiday
I’ll set off on a new chase
I got to see a new face
I need to take a holiday’
She couldn’t stay. She was getting to attached, too close. Evelyn Faith Dawson does not get close to anyone. She didn’t love. She didn’t think anyone could ever love her, she was too flawed; she had too many issues. She always did this. She’s been doing it for years, running away from any sort of love, ever since she could remember. It all started when she was 16, and it became too much for her to handle at home. Her parents had always sort of been on her case about stuff, but once she entered high school, it only seemed to intensify. Her eyes pricked with tears as she thought about those days. Her family had started falling apart, her parents fighting, putting so much pressure on her. She developed acute stress disorder, and when the dam finally broke, they kicked her out. She gathered her stuff left. She was now 20, and hadn’t been in a real relationship since she was 15. Evelyn got off the bed and walked over to the mirror.
‘My father, he was always wise
As wise as an elephant's eyes
He couldn't hold me down
He couldn't keep me around
So are you going to take your shot?
It's the only one that you got
Maybe I'll go out on a limb
Maybe I'll jump in for a swim
When the lights go dim’
She remembered that when she had a problem when she was about 10-13, her father was her go-to person, not her mother. Her friends always thought that it was weird, how could you talk to him about cramps and other teenage girl problems. Evelyn thought it was a lot easier to talk to her dad than her mom because her mom was a little more judgmental than her dad. But that all changed once she started rebelling a bit. It was like he didn’t love her anymore, or at least, that what it felt like. Whenever she went to him for a problem, he would always push her away, and then berate her for something she did wrong, or things she didn’t do enough. She started to put distance between her and her father, and her mother too. Things were getting out of hand. Finally, her father was tired of her. He told her to get lost, and that if she wasn’t going to be a good daughter, or listen to what he and her mom had to say, she had to leave. So, wiping away tears, not even bothering to beg for another chance, Evelyn got her stuff together and left. Now, fast forward 4 years. Here she was, in a now empty apartment leaving the best *CENSORED* thing that ever happened to her. He was kind, caring and he actually was interested in her, what she was capable of. Not what she did wrong.
‘You know I'll run far away
I need to take a holiday
Maybe it's a fall from grace
I got to find a new place
A holiday
I'll set off on a new chase
I got to see a new face
I need to take a holiday
Need to take a holiday’
Evelyn sighed. She really didn’t want to leave, but she knew she had to; it would only go downhill from here. The writers weren’t kidding when they said all good things must end. She scrutinized herself in the mirror. She was pretty, but not in the usual way. She wasn’t blonde, nor blue eyed. She had plain brown eyes and brown hair. There wasn’t anything special about her. But you could still see the beauty that radiated from her. She quickly picked up the shirt and pair of pants that were on the floor and tucked them into her duffel bag. She took a deep breath. She loved him. She really, really did. But she knew in the end she would hurt him, and she loved him too much to hurt him in any way. She needed to leave before she hurt him.
‘A new start
I've broken too many hearts
And I don't have any clue where to go
I don't know
But maybe I'll be back someday after my holiday
When I was younger I used to be wild
As wild as an elephant's child
And I don't think I'll ever change
I think I'm going to stay the same’
She was a disappointment to everyone she ever came in contact with. She had failed all her friends, family, the people she cared about the most. She had lost her friends, her true friends the moment she left. She didn’t say goodbye, if she did, she would never leave. Now, the ‘friends’ she had whenever she ran to a new place, were just faces, no names. She didn’t bother remembering them; she would be gone before it even mattered. She always imagined though, that maybe, just maybe, she would one day revisit all the places she’d been, but that was only a thought, it would never happen. Just like those thoughts she had about staying. They fooled her into thinking she would stay, but when the moment of truth came, she ran, like she always did, because she didn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t change. She wasn’t strong enough. She couldn’t trust herself enough to actually think that.
‘I'll run away
I need to take a holiday
Maybe it's a fall from grace
I got to find a new place
A holiday
I'll set off on a new chase
I got to see a new face
I need to take a holiday
A new start
I've broken too many hearts
And I don't have any clue where to go
I don't know
But maybe I'll be back someday after my holiday’
Evelyn sighed and slowly gathered her bags. She slung her duffel bag and her knapsack over her shoulder, her tiny suitcase rolling behind her. She opened the door to find him standing there. The last person she wanted to see. The last person she wanted to leave. He took notice of her bags and raised an eyebrow.
“Where are you going” he asked her, thoroughly confused. She would’ve told him if she was going on a trip.
“I’m leaving. I-I need to get away. I can’t handle this” she told him. Not entirely the truth, but the most she’s ever told anyone. She may love him, but she wasn’t about to spill her heart. No one knew her secrets, no one but her, and she planned on keeping them until the day she died.
“What are you talking about? What can’t you handle?” he asked, hoping it wasn’t about them.
“Getting too close. I’m flawed. I’m sorry, but I have to go” she said. This is exactly why she wanted to make a quiet exit. There wouldn’t be any questions; she could just go where she pleased.
“What are you talking about? Everyone has flaws, no one is perfect. That shouldn’t be the reason you run away. It’s a stupid reason. Now, tell me the real reason. Why are you leaving?” he asked her, taking hold of her hands. He knew there was a hidden reason.
She took a deep breath. How could she tell him why she was running away, without actually telling him her whole life story? Suddenly, she knew.
‘All of the wasted time
The hours that were left behind
The answers that we'll never find
They don't mean a thing tonight’
“I love you” she said, looking him in the eyes. His eyes brightened, and then understood.
“You can’t run away from love, no matter how scared you are. And you don’t have to be scared, because I love you too. I need you to stay.” He told her. She looked at him.
“I’ll only hurt you”
“The only thing that could hurt me the most is if you left.” He told her, sincerely. He knew it was corny, but he hoped she understood. And she did. She dropped her bags, and hugged him tightly. She would stay, and she would start over. Because she loved him.
I hoped you all liked it.
