Kayla ran to the beach to escape the screams that plagued her dreams. The hot sand squished between her painted toes, it burned the soles of her feet. She stopped and looked around with her blood shot eyes making sure no one was near. The wind played with her hair softly as she listened to the roar of the ocean and the squealing of the birds above. All she wanted was the peace that she once enjoyed, she wanted the happiness back in her life. She wanted to forget about everything. She closed her green eyes not wanting to look at the inviting ocean before her. Kayla shook her head as she reached her ultimate decision. She was done fighting a war that she could not win. She slowly walked to the icy waters of the dark sea. Soon it would be all over, she would be at peace finally. No one would miss her, she would miss no one. She walked until the sand caved in bellow her, this was it. Kayla wanted to feel nothing anymore, she needed this. She started to dip her body into the roaring ocean. Wave after wave plummeted her tiny, fragile body. When the water tried to strangle her last breath, Kayla realized this was not what she wanted. She realized she wanted to live but the angry ocean was too strong for her. She gasped for every piece of air. Then she felt the undertow pull her hard under the ocean. Underwater, the waves were deafening. She fought with her last breath to get free of her attacker but it was no use, everything went dark.
"Kevin! I think I hit something!" Nick shouted jumping off his surfboard as he grasped underwater for whatever he hit. Then he saw her, Kayla was blue and icy cold from the Pacific.
"Kev-Kevin, it's a person!" Nick screamed again, furiously looking around for his brothers. Joe made his way over the tumbling waves, they weren't exactly easy to manuver over. He grabbed Nick's discarded board as Nick dived under to pull out the lifeless body. Kevin was there in a second, helping Joe control the abandoned board that was being carried by the angry waves.
"Get her on here!" Kevin demanded grabbing Kayla from Nick. He struggled stabling himself on the board as he hoisting Kayla onto Nick's bare board. With one swift motion Kevin turned to Joe.
"Go get help!" He shouted at a scared Joe. Joe turned and rode a wave all the way to shore. He stumbled along as he ran to the life guard station, it was deserted.
"Sir? Are you okay?" A bright voice startled Joe, he turned to face a brillantly blonde life guard.
"Dead girl," Joe muttered barely above a whisper not believing his own words. He pointed towards his brothers who were trying to make their way back to the beach. The life guard spotted the girl on the board, her arms were limp and were hanging off the sides. The boys finally reached the shore as the life guard ran up to them.
"What happend?" She asked panicked. Nick shrugged as he let the board down gently. The life guard knelt down to check her paitent out, she leaned in. One breathe, nothing. She leaned down to give Kayla another deep breath. Kayla shook violently as the salt water spilled out of her mouth. Kevin turned her over so she could get all the water out of her lungs. He patted her back lightly as she began to cry. The life guard gently touched her head, the gash that was there oozed burgandy blood.
"That's a nasty wound," She spoke in a whisper as she pulled out her first aid kit. The boys crowded around Kayla, desperately trying to catch a glimpse of the cut. Nick felt his stomach drop when he saw the gaping hole in her head.
"I-I think I hit her with my board," he explained as Kayla's green eyes looked into his brown ones.
"Can you tell me your name, dear?" The blonde life guard asked. Kayla's eyes welled with tears again, she clutched Kevin and he pulled her into his chest.
"Hey, it's okay. Just tell us your name," he comforted as Kayla looked up into his smiling face.
"I-I don't know my name."
