Woooot, another chapter! I’m glad that everyone is liking this so far! I know I fell in love with Mia’s last chapter *gives props to Mia*. Guess it’s my turn again huh?...
Worth a Thousand Words. Chapter 3.
Chaos. The only word that is even slightly close to resembling the scene that is taking place in front of me. I’m not even kidding…
Who knew that a 7th backyard birthday party could do so much damage? There were small children running a rampage through the rose bushes, and shoving pizza in their mouths. There was a dog who had numerous balloons, streamers and party hats all fastened to him who was being chased by another mob of 2nd graders, and that poor jumping castle… It never saw those kids coming. There was also a large group of kids fiercely whacking a piñata with a stick, although most of them completely missed the “Cinderella” themed piñata, and ended up hitting each other. Like I said, Chaos.
Then again, I’m sure my 7th birthday party was no different.
I followed my mom and Dad to the gift table, and placed a newly bought and wrapped Princess dress up box on the table with the other presents.
“Janet, how nice to see that you could make it!” I heard a familiar voice squeal.
“Nancy! How are you?” My mother said, turning around to give my aunt a hug.
“I’m doing well. A little stressed over my little Michelle’s big day, but she seems happy! Ohh, and look who we have here! You brought the family too!” my Aunt said excitedly. She quickly gave my dad a hug, and then walked over to me.
“Hi Aunt Nancy.” I said politely.
“My goodness Lisa… Look how much you have grown! You just keep getting more beautiful every time I see you.” My aunt gushed.
My cheeks turned red and I replied with a hasty “Thanks.”
“Michelle would be so pleased that you came! She tells me that you are her favorite cousin, and babysitter!”
“Aww, that’s sweet. Where is Shelly? I want to wish her happy birthday.” I asked
“I wish I could tell you…” Aunt Nancy said, frowning at the sea of sugar-high children. “But if you find her, please let me know. We have to bring out the cake soon.”
I nodded and set off in search of the birthday girl.
Surprisingly, my quest didn’t take very long at all. As soon as I took a few steps in the direction of the jumping castle, there was a small girl clinging to me legs. I nearly tripped, but once I regained my composure I saw Shelly’s little face looking back up at me.
“Hey there Shelly!” I said. I scooped her up and gave her a big bear hug.
“Guess who’s 7 today?” she asked.
“Ummm…” I paused. “Me?”
“NOOOO!!! Me!” she said excitedly. I laughed and put her back on the ground.
“Happy birthday Shelly-belly! Now go find your mom… she’s looking for you.” I instructed
“Aye-aye cap’n!” she said. She gave me a sloppy salute, and skipped off in search of her mom.
I was about to take a step forward, when I felt something heavy clinging to my leg. I stumbled forward, and fell on top of whatever it was.
“Ouch, Lisa… geeze! What if I was Shelly again?” said a muffled voice under me. I instantly recognized that voice. I rolled off of him, and sat up.
“GRIGGS!” I yelled excitedly! I pulled him into a hug. “I didn’t know you would be here!”
“Hey Leese!” he said. The two of us helped each other up and dusted off our clothes. “Yeah, I’m here! Aunt Nancy sent me an invite… and I was in town, so I figured why not check in on the fam-jam”
“Well the fam is still jamming…” I said “But jeeze, you could have called and told me that you were coming, instead of making me fall to my potential death.” I said and punched his arm.
“Is it my fault that I wanted to surprise my favorite cousin?” Griggs asked, rubbing his arm.
“Guess not. But still I haven’t seen you since last Christmas! What’s new?” I asked.
He was about to reply, when we heard aunt Nancy yell “CAKE TIME!” we both rolled our eyes, and gathered around the patio table where everyone had already started singing “Happy Birthday” to Shelly.
Okay, that was my portion. Mia… your turn! Hope everyone liked the chapter, comments make us smile :)
