Born For This
Chapter 1
I plucked at my acoustic guitar nervously. I was sitting on the ground out in front of the audition center. Heck, I don’t the name of the audition center anyway. I’ve been to too many of them it didn’t really matter anymore. I don’t get why I’m so nervous, I’ve been auditioning and auditioning to be a guitarist for a band for years, YEARS. I tell you. Well maybe it’s because I’m auditioning for my favorite band ever. The JONAS BROTHERS! I mean you would be nervous as me if you were going to play a song you wrote, afraid you were going to mess up the lyrics, or strum the guitar wrong. I need to stop doing this, I’m going to jinx myself.
“Here you go Tess” my best friend Haley said giving me my usual Mocha from Starbucks. She took a seat next to me and took a sip from her Mocha. Haley and I have been best friends for as long as I’ve remember. I remember first meeting her in Elementary school, she understood how big my dream was and ever since has been going to every single audition since then. Supporting me, and making sure I had company. She was 14, the same age as me, with long brown hair and light brown eyes. She was a softball fanatic and it was hard to believe she still had time for me with all the softball she does.
“Thanks,” I said taking a long drink “I needed that.” You see, I’ve been here since 5 AM, when auditions start at 9 AM. There are so many people, it’s not even funny. Some people are here just to see Jonas Brothers, some actually serious about the job, and some just kinda were there. The Jonas Brothers haven’t even arrived yet. They just finished a concert in Chicago and had travel, it seemed, about halfway across the US to get here, we live in Oregon, to me, the middle of nowhere.
I’m about in the middle of the line, waiting, practicing, and having fun with my best friend of course!
Well, while we wait, I’ll explain a bit about myself. The name, Tess. I’m 15 years old, have dark brown shoulder length hair with a bang swipe over my eye. I’m the person who comforts anyone who is sad, that’s why Haley and I make such a great friendship. We always comfort each other when ever we are down.
After another hour of waiting, I was started to notice the kids around me. There was one gal next to me. She had long wavy blonde hair, blue eyes, and was a bit short. She wore a black t-shirt with white sweat pants. She was in front of me and I listened to her song from behind. She sounded really good. I tapped her on the shoulder. “Hey you sounded really good.” I said giving her a thumbs up.
I knew this girl was trouble when she just looked at me like I was a dead bug. “Well, it’s supposed to be. It’s going to beat everyone else here.” She said in a snotty voice. I just quietly leaned back and pulled my hat over my head, looking at my blue t-shirt and skinny jeans. I could still feel her eyes boring into me.
Me and this girl are not going to get along, and great. I get to wait right next to her for the next 3 hours. Whoo!
Haley just kinda looked at the girl, it was like an evil stare down. Finally the girl turned back around to work on her song. “Thanks” I whispered. “No problem.” She said shrugging. “No big deal.”
But it was, everything Haley did for me was a big deal. I know I would make it up for her some day. She in fact WAS a big fan of the Jonas Brothers.
Will Tess's audition go well? Will this girl get Tess and Haley into more trouble? What will Tess do to make it up to Haley?
Find out in the next chapter.
