Chapter two!
Whenever we have a welcoming ceremony for new trainees, a banquet always follows. They are so fun, because the whole point of the banquets is to socialize. There weren’t any cliques here, since everyone got along and there wasn’t any drama, so I just walked around and talked to everyone. When I spotted the Jonases, I went straight to Nick. He seemed like the most shy of them all, so I was going to try and make him feel welcome.
Before I could say hi, a bunch of girls swarmed in and started hugging them. What was up with this? All night, people had been running up to them and gushing over them. Everyone was always nice and welcoming, but this was a bit creepy! I stood back and waited for everyone to disperse. When they did, I introduced myself.
“Hey guys, my name’s Emily, and I’m going to be your commander while you’re here.” I tried to be warm and welcoming, hopefully it was showing..
“Hi, Emily, I’m Kevin” “I’m Nick” “And I’m Joe” “And we’re the Jonas Brothers!”
“And I’m… so not impressed. Have you guys been saying that all night?” I asked, laughing. “Oh please, honey, we’ve been saying it for yeaaaaars.” Joe said, causing my eyebrows to shoot up. “Um okay then. I heard you were a famous band, but is this seriously how you introduce yourself to everyone?” “Well, everyone usually knows our names, but yea, we do say hi like this” Kevin said, smiling.
“Okay then… Well, I just thought I would say hi. I might get a little rough on you the next couple weeks, but I do hope you have fun while you’re here.” “So, Emily, how long have you been here?” Asked Nick. Ah, he speaks!
“I’ve been here since I was seven. At first I just watched, and then I started training when I was nine.” I replied. “Whoa, isn’t that a little young?” Nick said. “Um, my parents left me when I was seven, and I picked coming here instead of an orphanage. Surprisingly, they left the decision up to me... I guess seeing all those spy movies made this place sound like heaven. And it really feels like it is sometimes…”
“Gosh, I’m sorry about your parents. That must be tough.” Kevin said with a sad look on his face. I nodded. “So, what kind of stuff do you guys do around here? Does everybody have to stay on campus all the time?” asked Joe. He was staring at me again.
“No, we get 30 days off a year. I mean, we are still young, so we need time off. We can go wherever we want on those days off, but you have to request them in advance. Oh, and everybody gets the first Sunday of each month to go to the beach. It’s pretty fun!” I replied.
“Nice, so um. Are there relationships that go on around here?” Joe’s question again. I looked down. That’s not something I want to discuss, seeing as how last time didn’t go good at all…
“Well, if you’re directly working with someone, you can’t get emotionally attached. It’s too risky and it messes with people’s heads.” Joe nodded at me and kept staring. “So, If I asked you to take a day off with me to go on a date, you would have to refuse?”
