“So…” Joe mumbled as he kissed my neck, “Your birthday is coming up.” I giggled a little as I rolled my eyes at him. He was just so brilliant, wasn’t he? He pulled his hormonally challenged-self and looked me in the eyes, “What?” I shook my head, “Nothing, you’re just cute.” A grin pulled across his lips, “DUH!” he yelled before leaning in to kiss me.
We sat there for a while, just talking. Obviously, we had been spending a lot of time in the back of the bus. Get your mind out of the gutter people! Nothing has happened, yet at least, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been trying. I’m not lying when I say that this kid is hormonally challenged.
The door swung open, revealing Kevin standing there with his eyes covered. “Relax, Kev.” Joe started, “We were just talking.” Kevin removed his hand from his face and looked relieved. “Just letting you guys know I’m going… somewhere for a bit. Ena and Nick left a while ago.” he informed us. Joe nodded, “Alright, no getting into trouble!” he said, pointing a finger at him.
“Hm.. Wonder where he’s going.” I thought out loud after Kevin left. Joe shrugged his shoulders, “Who knows? But.. Now we’re alone.” another grin appearing on his face.
I stood up before he could even finish that thought. “Let’s go for a walk.” I suggested with an irresistible smile across my face. “You sure?” he asked me. I nodded my head, still smiling.
You see, ever since that one day at Dairy Queen, when those particular pictures were taken, Jonas fans had not been very happy about Joe’s new relationship. It was cute at first, but once those pictures were printed and released, nothing could be kept private anymore. I was treated much like Miley was when she and Nick dated, it was horrible. Often I acted like it didn’t bother me, but truth be told, it hurt that people who meant so much to Joe, hated me.
I placed my Ferragamo sunglasses over my eyes and stepped off of the bus, hand-in-hand with Joe. We walked across the back parking lot of the venue and slipped out the side, next to a Starbuck’s. Talk about smooth.
We walked down the busy New York street, away from the swarm of fans already forming outside of the venue. Joe was eyeing the newsstand ahead and sure as anything, stopped right in front of it. I flipped through a magazine while he got himself a Red Bull and of course, there it was. A picture of Joe and myself, getting on the bus. It looked like it was taken the boys picked Ena and myself up. Just peachy.
“I got you a can of green tea.” Joe said as he looked down at the magazine. “It’s alright,” he continued, “So people know you’re on tour with us, big deal.” I faked a smile and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Honestly, I don’t know how he continues to be so amazing through all of this.
“Sooo…” he trailed of as we continued walking up the street, “What do you want for your birthday?” Oh man. There is was. The birthday question. Does anyone really know how to answer that? Because, I never do. I shrugged my shoulders and smiled at him, trying my hardest not to say “I don’t know.” He laughed and squeezed my hand a little tighter, “There has to be something.” I shook my head, “Being with you is enough of a gift.” I could tell Joe tried his hardest not to laugh. Yes, it was super cheesy, but he walked right into it.
Suddenly I felt myself being pulled to the right. “Joe, what the-” I cut myself off as I looked up. He had dragged me, unknowingly, into a jewelry store. “Joseph, come on.” I said as I turned around and started to head out of the door. He pulled me back towards him, “Just take a look.”
