Chapter 2
Things were still awkward between Joe and me as they walked up the steps of the Jonas Household.
“Alright, you wait here. I’ll be right back.” Joe said as we walked in the door and he ran up the stairs.
I looked over to see Kevin standing up from where he was sitting the couch next to his girlfriend, Jessica, “Shannah! Long time no see!” He said giving me a huge hug. Jessica followed him and did the same. She was definitely one of my best friends.
“You goof, it’s only been two days.” I said as I wrapped my arms tightly around her.
As Jessica and I pulled back, Kevin just grinned his silly smile at me. “I know, but I hate going too long without seeing you!”
As he stared into my eyes, I could tell he noticed that there was something different, “Oh gosh, what did Joe do this time?” he asked quietly.
“What? Nothing, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I quietly mumbled.
“Oh stop already. I can see it in your eyes. Tell me about it. Come on, you know you can trust me.” He pleaded.
After a few moments, I sighed and looked around the room as if to see if anyone was listening.
“He almost kissed me.” I finally whispered.
“What?!?” He and Jessica yelled at the same time. Gosh, they were too perfect for each other.
Uhm, I don’t think I heard you right. I though you said that he almost kissed you?” Kevin said wiggling his finger in his ear.
“Shut up, you. You heard me.” I giggled as I jokingly punched him in the arm. I looked over at Jessica only to see a certain sparkle in her eye. I knew what that meant, we were so having a girls night tonight.
He winced. “Jeez girl. I was just kidding. But seriously, what are you going to do about it?”
“Kevin, where have you been! I can’t do anything!” My voice started to rise.
“What? Why not? You have liked him since, forever. This is your chance!” He said, slightly louder than I would’ve liked.
“SHHH, he might hear you” I said looking at the stairs. “And anyways, I’ve moved on. You know this. I was tired of waiting for him to come around and admit his feelings for me. Not to mention…uhm Andrew?!?”
“Oh, the boyfriend. Gosh, I am so sick of you and Joe dancing around each other. Everyone can see that you two are made for each other. So why go through all this pain when you can just be happy? It’s pointless.” He exclaimed.
“Kevin…” Jessica started to say in a tone that clearly meant for him to stop, but I cut her off.
“I’ve told you this a thousand and one times. It’s not going to work. I gave up on it months ago. Why can’t you?” I argued back with a defeated tone in my voice, finally getting up the courage to walk away.
I had just brushed past Jessica when I heard him speak.
“I’m sorry” Kevin said, grabbing my arm and pulling me into a hug. “I just hate seeing you get like this.”
“It’s okay. I know you only say that stuff because you care about me.” I smiled back at him.
“I do, very much so.” He said sincerely. “Remember, if there is anything you ever need, I’m here for you.”
I could only nod my head as I heard Joe’s footsteps come clambering down the stairs.
“Ready?” He asked quickly.
“You bet.” I quickly gave Kevin a hug and then Jessica as I whispered in her ear, “My house. 11 o’clock” She nodded and Joe and I walked out of the house, back into the now scorching sun.
