Chapter 1
~Summer~
~Em's POV~
Winter had come and gone at it was finally summer again.School and work had kept me busy during the week days while hanaging out with Mandy and Nick kept me busy during the weekends.Bri had left us to go to college in a different state and she wouldn't be coming back for the summer because she was going to be taking some courses over the summer.I had almost thought about selling the house becuase it was too big for one person but then I knew that I couldn't because of all the memories of my parents plus it was.Kevin had come home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas but I didn't get to see him.One of the reasons being I was dating Joe.I know what your thinking,I thought her feelings for Kevin were stronger and I'm here to tell you that they were and well they still are but Kevin started dating someone else as soon a few weeks after he got back to college.Joe asked me out a month after Kevin left and well I was tired of being alone plus I was heart broken because of everything else that had gone on.I had found a new friend in Aimee she was the one who let me know that Kevin was dating someone else,he talked with her because they were good friends.Joe and I also hung out alot with Shay and Ashley, she was his best friend so there was really nothing that I could do about it.
"Hey did you know Kevin's coming back today?"Mandy asked as she walked into the kitchen where I was fixing our dinner for the night.
I felt my heart skip a beat when she mentioned it.
"So."I said with a little shrug as I looked down at the pan.
"Come on Em you know you want to see him."She said softly.
"If you haven't forgotten I'm dating Joe."I said softly as I finished fixing the food and got the plates out so that we could eat.
"If you hadn't noticed he's still flirting with Shay."Mandy said shaking her head"I don't care if she is his best friend he's using you to make her jealous."
I sighed I knew she was right but I couldn't get myself to break up with Joe because it would just make me realize the mistake that I made by letting Kevin go.
"Let's just eat."I said shaking my head as I started to fix my plate.
~Kevin's POV~
I drove down the highway on my way home, the school year had gone by fast to fast in my opinion.I had come back home twice during the school year but I never saw Em part of it had to do with the fact that I was dating someone else and then the other part was that I knew if I saw her my heart would break all over again. The only reason I was dating someone else was to get my mind off of everything that had gone on during the summer though it didn't seem to work.
I pulled into the driveway and parked my car before I got out and headed towards the door.
"Kevin."Frankie yelled as he ran out of the house and towards me,I dropped my bag as he jumped into my arms and hugged me tight.
"Hey there little buddy."I said with a smile as I sat him down and ruffled his hair.
We both walked into the house and to the kitchen where my mom was fixing dinner.
"Kevin."She said as she smiled and came over to me wrapping me in a hug.
"Hey mom."I said hugging her and kissing her on the cheek.
I watched her as she went back to cooking, she talked with me about all kinds of different things.
"So how's that girlfriend of yours what was her name?"My mom asked as she looked up at me.
"Hannah."I said sighing as I looked down"We broke up."
I just couldn't help but compare everything she did to Em,I can't date someone when I'm in love with someone else.
"Oh."Was all that she could say.
I ran my fingers through my hair.
"So where are Nick and Joe?"I asked finally realizing that I hadn't seen either of them since I got home.
"Well let's see Nick is with Mandy at a movie and Joe is with his girlfriend."She said as she looked at me"So it's just the four of us for dinner."
"Joe has a girlfriend?"I asked.
Did Shay finally agree to go our with him?
"Yeah he has a girlfriend."My mom said not looking up at me as she said it.
"He's dating Em."Frankie blurted out and my mom looked up at me with a sympethetic look.
"Oh."Was all that I could say but I felt my heart breaking again"I'm going to go unpack my clothes."
My mom nodded and I got up from the table grabbing my bag as I headed up the stairs to my room.
~Em's POV~
I heard the doorbell ring and I quickly walked over to the door and answered it to see Joe standing there with a smile on his face as he walked towards me and put his arms around my waist as he leaned down and kissed me,I pulled away after a few minutes,I never could kiss him like I did Kevin.
"You know you don't have to ring the doorbell."I said softly as I pulled away from him and headed towards the living room"You know where the spare key is hidden."
"Yeah well I like surprising you."He said as he shut the door and followed after me.
I rolled my eyes.
"Isn't Kevin coming home today?"I asked as I sat down on the couch.
"Yeah what about it?"He asked as he sat down next to me.
"I just figured you were going to say home to greet him."I said with a little shrug.
"Kevin and I really don't talk anymore."Joe said with a little shrug.
"Oh."I said softly as I looked down at my hands.
Them not talking anymore was my fault too.
I felt someone put there arm around me and I looked up at Joe and smiled a little at him to let him know that I was ok.
"It wasn't your fault."He said softly as he leaned over and kissed me quickly.
"Knock knock anyone home."I heard Shay say.
I sighed,I hated that Joe and I could never be alone and the fact that he told her where the spare key was.
"We're in here."Joe yelled as he looked at me"I hope you don't mind I thought we could all watch some movies or something."
"It's fine."I said shaking my head"Aimee's supposed to come by in a little while anyways since Mandy left to go out with Nick."
Joe smiled and kissed my cheek before Shay came walking in with a little smile.
